Oh yes, let's find someone else to blame. It's the school's fault they don't teach money management. 🙄Never mind the fact her parents didn't even have the money for her to borrow. I'm guessing her terrible behavior with finances should be blamed on her parents.

She is. And she’s so pretty ❤️ she was raised well and very respectful. But yes you’re right she is still learning. At 21 one is not always financially responsible. It’s still a learning process. She’ll get it though. Never spend money on anything you don’t need. And don’t borrow money cause it weighs over your head. And if you keep accumulating the amount it definitely makes it harder and harder to pay it back. It’s ok if you can’t afford a trip it’s also ok if you don’t go, if you’re not financially stable and don’t have money to go don’t go. It would be a much smarter move not to go if you can’t afford it. It’s ok to not go to trips or parties or vacation you wouldn’t be the first to not go anywhere and you wouldn’t be the last. Save money, manage expenses, manage your money, if you go on trips or plan trips make sure you have your own money to take and calculate how much you plan to spend and how much you should take, but most importantly DONT SPEND YOUR BILL/RENT MONEY on it. Make sure all bills and rent is paid so that way you don’t have to worry about it later. I wish I could’ve been her friend to tell her this.

Whatever. Her stepmother is a saint and a truly loving woman to do all this for her step child. You’re blinded by her looks. I always thought they should educate kids on credit and predatory lenders at school when they are 17 and coming up to credit application age. I was talked into a huge line of credit as soon as I was 18 and moved out on my own. I went to buy a cheap bed for cash and they convinced me to furnish my whole house at huge interest and I couldn’t afford it. It haunted me until I was 30, but it made me learn to live without credit through my 20’s. @@blondesense1708 I screwed up my life with credit when I was in my 20's and didn't really figure it out until my mid 30's, after bankruptcy and other issues. But today's kids have the option in almost 50% of schools to take a program that teaches about credit, taxes, savings, budgeting and investing all authored by Dave Ramsey who is the financial guru in my opinion. Unfortunately that's only half of schools and it's not mandatory and equally unfortunate is that many kids will get financial advice from people like this young lady did and be told it's all right to get a loan to get out of debt. I know, I got that exact same advice from someone I thought was pretty smart 25 years ago and it only made things worse.

While her stepmother was supportive at one point, she seemed to be one of those step parents who are sweet while married to your biological parent then it goes sour once they divorce. All in all, the defendant needs to become more financially smart and aware. She'll have a even more difficult time adulting if she continues how she is currently.

No. Telling someone who pays for your hair, nails and makeup isn't an excuse. Pointing out that you are paying the rent and helping your own mother out financially. Isn't and excuse. Also, think about it! She was 19 when she made a mistake on her taxes. She went to her stepmother for help. Any grown adult would know to contact the IRS directly to get that mistake fixed. She was STILL AND CHILD. That is what started this whole debt problem in the first place. But her stepmother decided to just pay it off instead of teaching her how to fix the mistakes with the IRS. Notice how the stepmother is separated from her father and she didn't even bring her youngest son but someone else? No, the child was trying her best and the stepmother made situations worse full well knowing that she was clearly causing the child MORE debts!!

What about what she did makes her shady? It's been over 2 years since she helped this girl out. If course she's upset that she hasn't been paid back and is feeling slighted after doing so much to help her. I think giving her so much time to make payments was more than fair. I think they both seem like nice ladies and I hope they can work things out because the step daughter clearly needs some one stable in her life. If her other family members had been more helpful to her she might not have ever ended up in this situation in the first place.

She paid for her to go on trips, and for her phone, and even sat her down to come up with two different financial debt recovery plans. And just because the defendant looks sweet and innocent everyone thinks the stepmom is mean or nasty. At the end stepmom says she hopes they can get past this because her son and the defendant are siblings. This woman took her to court to hold her responsible and help her grow up. Mean, evil, step-mother... are you KIDDING? This women takes on a child that is not hers. Takes her on expensive trips, adds her to phone plan, gets her a nice phone. She takes on the girls debt as her own, with no gain for herself, but just to try and help this girl out. That doesn't seem like a mean, evil step-mother. I've seen 'mean, evil, step-mothers' & they are NOTHING like this women. I've seen women that won't have anything to do with a child that isn't their own blood. Real mean, evil bitches, who hurt children, scar children, not just physically but mentally & emotionally as well. I've had to testify against women who have broken the literal spirit of a child, all because they didn't want them to be apart of their fathers life. These women basically abuse these poor children, (there are plenty of men 'step-dads' that do the same thing) just because the child is not theirs. I've had to listen to these poor children tell their story of physical abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse... & sadly, some of these children commit suicide. This women is far from evil. She actually seems like a very genuine, caring, & good hearted women. She is far from evil or mean. I will always take a stance against child abuse, & help any child who is being abused. I just did the math and the Plaintiff was right about the interest. At the end of the 15 months, if there is a balance of 294 still owed, the credit card company charges interest for the previous 15 month grace period. And then, also starts charging interest on the money monthly as a balance due. Banks hope you won't pay off every penny that you transfered because then they charge back interest on the initial grace period. That's how they make money on deferred interest card transfers. The back interest on 294 after 2 years would indeed be about 145 if her interest rate was 24(26?) percent like the Plaintiff stated.

I supported both of them. The defendant seemed nice and the plaintiff was helping her more than her own parents. As a family they seem irresponsible with spending money on credit. If they already had debts they should have skipped the trip to Disneyland and owing 8000 on a credit card is ridiculous.

@@toyas400 been watching these shows for years see how the judge went ham about the interest and about how much debt the step mom had and she was trying to discredit the lady.."this is who you're getting financial advice from" throwing digs at her for owing money? See how this episode started with the Judge speaking to the defendent first the show gave a appearance of a bias. When this happens all the ducks have to be in a row. So yes 50 cents mattered simply because then Judge Milan could not imply she was lying about anything.

Why is the judge throwing shade about the plaintiff being financially responsible. She’s sharp if you ask me she just made a mistake. Clearly the defendant knew who to go to because clearly the biological parents have no clue.

It's because she goes on trips and paying bills on a loan... people fail to realize that when you owe credit cards obscene amounts of money, if you get hurt or something and can't pay, your credit is shot.

Yes she's young and learning, but in no way does that justify nonpayment. Young adults need to learn to be responsible therefore, held accountable.

Her stepmother -- not her parents -- got her out of a potentially protracted nightmare by paying off her IRS debt. Once you develop a "problem" with the IRS, the late fees and interest will double, triple, and quadruple the original tax debt. Then, she could be looking at wage garnishments, bank account levies, and property liens (if she actually owns anything besides clothes, shoes, and accessories). Stepmom saved her -- big time. There is no excuse for her to be joining in on expensive family vacations when she needs to be working (like the rest of us). And, because she clearly can't afford it, she should forget the fancy phone with the unpaid $500 plus balance and buy a Trac phone that will keep her connected just as well. Yes, she's very pretty, soft-spoken, and passive, but she also has a spending addiction that will freeze her out of the credit market (and in this day and age, when bad credit keeps you from renting an apartment, renting a car, buying a home, or even getting a job, there is absolutely no point in blaming the schools, her parents, or anyone else because of the choices she's making). The fact that her step-mother took her to court shows true concern. The pretty lady with the pink leather handbag and a P/T job in a make-up store needs to hit a reset button or she'll find herself wishing she could turn back the years and start all over again.
