They did. They just didn't believe him, and I wouldn't have either. It was a ridiculous story. When the evidence didn't match, they had to dig deeper. @killercat5231
@killercat5231 Год назад
@Itheruser First You just contradicted yourself by saying the evidence didn't match then in the next sentence say it was evidence that saved him. Back in those days many people gave hitchhikers a lift and it wasn't to an unknown location he told the guy he was going that way and would take him as far as he could, that's why the fight started as he wanted driven all the way. The DNA wasn't the only thing to back up his story or even make the "detectives" look into it a bit more like if the cops had done their job and interviewed the people at the burger place earlier that would have been a start and proved there was another guy, then the palm print didn't match but still as the "expert" detective said "he was an experienced cop". Well most with experience would have known a guy capable of doing that to his mother would have come up with a better story and possible alibi, even make it look like robbery to cover his tracks but they were too focused on him to be bothered to even look at the possibility he was truthful even if they had just spoken to a witness at the burger joint then they would have another line of inquiery but that would have been too much work and mean having to go outside. I'm actually a bit surprised these cops didn't frame him and " misplace" or interfere with the evidence because it showed just how little work they will do to help you prove your innocence and reveal the truth which supposedly is all they want, as the saying goes 'the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction'. Sloppy cop work from the start, sure it sounds strange but I've heard stranger true stories and their job is literally is to find evidence and investigate every possibility but they forgot the main part of a detective, investigating.
@itheuserfirst3186
@itheuserfirst3186 Год назад
@@killercat5231 I never said the evidence didn't match. At that point, they didn't have DNA evidence. I said their story didn't make sense.All signs pointed at them. It's why it went to trial. The jury would have to decide. This is why it's important to not have death sentences when there is no dna evidence.

Man, once the detectives have their sights set on someone, they'll do anything to twist the facts, to fit their theory! I used to think that if a suspect automatically lawyered up, they were guilty. I've seen so many botched cases since then, I'd immediately get a lawyer! And if you're innocent, it's soo difficult to get them to listen even with proof, cos they don't want to admit to a mistake. The West Memphis Three is a perfect example! The three boys who were falsely convicted will never get their names cleared, and the three boys who were murdered will never get justice! @Phuckin Weetard That's an important one. A lot of people don't realize that the "right to counsel" only applies to those officially charged with a crime. If you haven't been charged with anything yet, no lawyer will be provided. You have to seek out & pay for one yourself if you want one. However, you don't actually need a lawyer to assert "I'm not going to speak to you without a lawyer present," and everyone has the right to not speak to police. The problem lies in the fact that interrogators are specifically trained to manipulate people into waiving their rights & talking anyway, including using threats like "we can charge you with interfering with an investigation if you don't answer our questions."

Sadly there's lots of known cases like this. No one in law enforcement really cares. The public is happy just to have someone to blame for murders and most detectives are too stupid and prideful to ever admit they could be wrong. I see nothing changing in the near future. Hell most of the public doesn't know that all the problems relating to modern policing go back to the psychological testing they do looking specifically for the petty, controlling narcissistic, morons and putting badges on. A long time ago someone decided that society's most broken people would make the best cops and everything after that was just the inevitable. Crime out of control because they just aren't smart enough to even begin to figure out what to do about it. Detectives stupidly latching on to innocent suspects and railroading them into prison. Hell even day to day interactions with cops where for no reason they just start attacking people. It's all written in the cards from the type of person they choose to make cops. When you choose cluster B types to be cops you get all the cluster B type shit that goes along with it. Lying to cover up, lying to get their way, a complete inability to admit they're wrong unless they're feigning ignorance to get their way. None of it is at all surprising when you know why they pick the people they do to be cops.

Thankfully he was vindicated although it took a decade. I couldn't imagine being in any of those wrongly persecuted shoes. It is very scary and troubling because it could happen to anyone.

This is a great channel! And this story really is an incredible series of coincidences. The murderer picked Charle's mom's house by chance and used Charlie's own tool as a weapon! Thankfully Charles didn't spend 10 years in prison and it was finally solved and Charles exhonorated.

I watch a lot of True Crime and one thing I've learned is don't talk to the police no matter what. Get a lawyer the very second a detective ask you if you can give any information about a criminal case. The second they think you are a suspect they will do anything to make it stick. In their eyes you're guilty and if you can't prove you're not guilty you could easily go to prison for the rest of your life.
