Amazing! I’m speechless. I’m a 33yo man who finally decided to finally follow my dreams and go back to university and finish what I left because of my stutter. Stutter will not define me anymore, I want to prove to myself and the people who love me what I’m capable of. I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my life, can’t wait to begin.

Great talk, Paul. I went through everything you described. Only when you accept that the stutter is a part of you, you don’t care what other people think about your stutter and you spend more energy on what you want to say instead of how people will receive it, the magic begins.

great talk, I have a very bad stutter. I has greatly impacted my life on every level, as I research and think introspectively more into stuttering it does seem like its linked to ones self image. I remember my stutter being at its worst around 12-13 when I was first told that I stutter.... before that moment I didnt stutter in my mind

As a stutterer, I can completely relate to his message here. I noticed from a young age that the less I thought and worried about stuttering, the more fluently I spoke and vice versa. It’s all about ones comfortability being their genuine self and owning it

Thank you for this talk Paul. I think as stutterers it's an opportunity for us to work towards being the best versions of ourselves that we can be. Rather than seeing it as a handicap we can see it as something that pushes us to build the life we want to live, as you pointed out. Thanks again. Lets bring about a revolution!

It is 100% possible to overcome stuttering. Doesn't mean 100% fluency, but honestly, no one is. Iv done it, my best friend did it and so have millions of other people. Once you understand it not about fixing the stuttering it makes sense.

I am 41, stuttering every day, but that extremely severe. I used to work in a SOE company in China while translating some books of art and literature. In 2023, I quitted my job. My passion of translation and interpreting drove me to study overseas in Sydney. Here, I dare to say I want to be a conference interpreter for the first to public. How could you think about that a man with stuttering wants to be professional living by speaking. Simultaneous interpreting is super hard. But I found that long consecutive interpreting is even harder for me. Today is perhaps the most difficult day for me recently because I stuttered so badly in a long consecutive interpreting exam. I almost lose faith. Back to several years ago, I drew aspirations from my favourite movie actress Emily Blunt to make my mind to be an interpreter. So I look for encouragement and energy here to go forward tomorrow. I don't know what will be like in the future. But I will try even it is daunting task though.

Leaving this comment for people who struggle with stuttering. I am 17 and I still have the same problem and I am trying very hard to overcome it, there's this one comment I read is that if you started stuttering because of a traumatic event, your subconscious mind still has that in it, so you must go back to the point where you started stuttering and let go of things. 😊

I found this one inspiring - thank you for sharing your experience. I´m 29 and live with a stutter. For me it was a game-changer to work with my emotions that related to my stutter. I worked on my self-esteem and the acceptance. That helped me a lot. I still stutter just as much, but I doesn´t suffer from it the same way anymore since I stopped viewing my stutter as something bad.

This is often the biggest challenge for many people who stutter - it was for me in school, college, job interviews and presentations. But you're more than your stutter! find a way to push through people will give you time and space. if they dont they are not worth speaking to anyway or they're just embarrassed themselves. As a Clinical Hypnotherapist I have found from my research, that stuttering is caused by a traumatic event, between the ages of 2-7. the cause is anything from a dog barking in a child's face, to a child seeing some one get shot! this is the spectrum that I have worked with. So when you put someone into hypnosis you go back to the first time they started to stutter. The subconious remembers everything. Then we do forgiveness and let the memory go from the body. Now when you understand how the mind and body work together, you can go back to the memory, and there is no more emotion attached,. that is when the stutter lets go. And becomes the cure. Good luck in the future. If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you for you time.

Hi Paul, great speech! I can relate to what you're saying. I stutter all the time on my own name and it's so embarrassing. I have also had people tell me that they didn't notice that i stutter when i tell them that I have a stutter so i hate talking on the phone etc. Like you i try and cover it up with choosing words i know I'll be okay with and won't stutter on. The only problem is when i can't substitute the word, like saying my name! 😭😭 some words i will be fine with in one sentence then stutter on it the next sentence. Some words I'll be fine with for 6 months then all of a sudden i'll start stuttering on them. It's very frustrating. And embarrassing when people laugh. ahh well. We'll get there in the end. It feels better that I'm not alone bc I've only met 2 other stutterers.

Hi it can feel that way at times. But I know from my personal experience and that of many others, you are so much more than your stutter, work on the other bits - look for role models and keep the faith. you can be whatever you want to be. Focus on what you're passionate about, what you're already good at. Set yourself small goals and take actions. you will surprise yourself. Good luck.

Hi I didn't i still stutter today. this was one of the only times during 6 months of going through the TEDx process that i didn't get a block. But if you listen carefully you can see when i nearly get a block. I also worked really hard to start each sentence with words i knew i have more chance of saying. And i rehearsed for weeks and weeks so i could get them out without thinking about them. I had a mini panic just before the Talk and one of the team really helped me get my head in the right place. Hi some people said that on the night. It was one of the only times during the 6 month process I didn't get a block. Especially on the line about Kate Middleton visiting Liverpool that became a real stumbling sentence. if you look carefully you can see the times when i am getting near to a stutter and I don't often breathe, so its always close. I don't know about your stutter but mine is very unpredictable. My wife doesn't understand why at 60 years of age I stutter when ordering a drink at the bar, or food from a waitress. we all do it differently. Thank you for your comment believe me i still stutter.

I appreciate that not everyone will get something from my perspective on stuttering. It is after all only my perspective, you will have your own. My only point is that many people feel held back by their stutter. I don't think they have to be. That's the Revolution. It's not a talk about how to cure a stutter. sometimes you can't. so do something different. thank you for your comment i really appreciate you have taken the time to listen to the talk.

Stuttering is extremely complex. Please don't comment on something you don't understand. Severity depends on people, situations and alot of other factors. You could be speaking fluently one morning and then get triggered to stutter in a conversation in the afternoon. Please research next time

Haha....... This man have gotten old but didn't understand the reality, This just a BS motivational speech. My best Advice as a stutter: 1-) You can't fix it, It's incurable. 2-) Don't follow your passion until you have lots of money but choose a work or job in which your work or job won't depend on your speaking. 3-) Besides your main job or work do whatever you want do it might be your passion as well. Hope this will help because except these 3 things there is no other way to deal with this lameness but if you find let me know in reply.
