Great video; this was a true blast from the past for me. I haven’t thought about this game in forever, but I used to LOVE playing it when it first came out back when I was in high school. Finding tons of additional characters to add to your party and then going back to your fortress to see what change they made to it/new ability they provided you was an incredibly addicting and rewarding game mechanic. This game also resulted in maybe the nerdiest thing I have ever done in my life. Namely, narrating my play-through of the game over the telephone to my friend on multiple occasions. He didn’t have the game, but had helped me progress thru it when spending the night on a weekend and then wanted to hear how it ended up after that. I guess our setup was basically like a precursor and low tech worst version imaginable of Twitch!
Another awesome video. I first played this game on the PSN Store on my ps3, and i was kinda blown away. It was the perfect length. Not to long, not to short. Althought def short compared to most rpgs. The length always leads me to finish this game once i decided to play it again.
I still haven't gotten around to Suikoden 2 yet, but the length is also a reason I'm more interested in trying it out. A very focused experience is often more memorable to me personally though I do still love my big RPG's. I'm playing through Sea of Stars at the moment and it's more focused attention is one of the largest reasons I'm loving it.
Suikoden and Shining Force are my "rainy day" RPGs I've never played them more than a couple minutes and I've been holding on to them for an amazing year when I need it 😅 Funny enough Suikoden 3 is the only one I've played more than 20 minutes into. Honestly loved every minute of it.
Shining Force is probably my #1, "wish I would just play through them all " series. Hopefully I'll squeeze some time for a Suikoden 2 video. Maybe after the remaster comes out
@@Zerbraxi Current thinking of finally tackling Shining Force. I got a Genesis emulator working well on my PSP and got Shining Force 1&2 on it. Apparently Shining Force CD is another separate game that works on the emulator. It's apparently Shining Force Gaiden 1&2 fused together with extra content. AND Shining Force Gaiden 3 has the incredibly rare Main character with my name 🤣 I NEVER see that. All of this because Shining Force 3's scenarios are all fully fan translated 🍻 Gotta experience this series that I missed.
Going back to watch your older videos after watching your Golden Sun retrospective video and The Chipmunk Adventure movie retrospective. Would you be willing to do a retrospective on a few often not remembered animated movies from the 80's and 90's? I have a few in mind: -The Last Unicorn -Rock & Rule -The Fantastic Adventures of Unico -Unico in the Island of Magic
I'm pretty much not against doing anything honestly. I'm not sure when I'd do another movie retrospective since I've been mostly focusing on games, but I'm not writing the idea off at all. I'd have to look into this films as I'm not familiar with them, but I thank you for the ideas. I'll definitely consider it since I enjoy video recommendations.
@@Zerbraxi Amassing large numbers of tokens will require developing a gambling addiction and multiple trips to the church (where you can save your game)
I need to get through the whole thing, or at least the trilogy specifically. I know a bit about 3 but it's definitely an overall blind spot for me and the series gets so much love.
Honestly, kinda same. I meant it when I said I almost threw the whole drawing of the name out the window when I found out you could do that. I think it was you who told me?
The Mario and Luigi games are on my list to cover. I've never played them and I'm excited to try them out. Hopefully next year when I finish up a few other videos I need to wrap up.
Hmm, I understand that point in terms of quality but there wasn't nearly as many then as existed into the ps1 and ps2 eras. Though the whole idea of "the Golden age" is always gonna be pretty widely shifting from person to person.
In fairness to Nomura, ff7 confused the piss out of half the players the first time around when we got the game all in one shot. And he knows that most people aren't going to replay part 1 of the remake when part 2/3 release, they are just gonna play the next game and assume they remember well enough. I think they were just getting ahead of the complaints that part 2 made no sense to anyone when it releases. Perhaps a touch patronizing for fans of the original, but I'm guessing it's still going to be a pretty big issue with newcomers in spite of all the extra exposition.
Hmmm, interesting. I can't remember too many people being confused when playing 7 back in the day. Though that's tapping into some seriously old memories so I may have genuinely forgotten. My primary complaint with Nomura storytelling is that this issue transcends FF7 and exists in basically every single story he's ever told. The example in the 7 Remake is just the most "on the nose" he's ever been about it. We'll definitely see when part 2 comes out though lol. Perhaps I'll be absolutely proven silly. Can't wait to find out either way!
Tetsuya Nomura needs to have a restraining order against him to stay 200km away from any RPG development ever again. Everything he touches turns to crap
How do you do 40 minutes on Suikoden and never mention the soundtrack?? THAT'S WHY YOU'RE STILL PLAYING THIS GAME, because the OST makes the story and the feels that powerful despite the relatively basic premises
I was about to respond to this with mentioning how I obviously DID cover the soundtrack because it's pretty damn good. There are several songs that still pop into my head semi-regularly. Considering how I also touch on music in almost every video I've done, because video game music is incredible, I wasn't sure how you could've missed the part I mention the music. ...until I rewatched this and HOW DID I NOT COVER THE OST?!??!? How am I only noticing this now?! You should be upset. I'm upset!! What a whiff on my part. My apologies.
@@Zerbraxi it happens must have been an accidentally delete on your script text or something. That's all good you seemed too sane not to comment on the music lol. I have a particular fanboy hardon for this soundtrack in particular. I've transcribed several of the pieces to piano and actually did two figure skating routines to the OST back in the day
Ya know, I've been making videos in this style for 10 years now, though inconsistent and unsuccessfully, and even with that I've had 2 comments compare me to Scott this week. I'm honored lol 😆
