This song is magic. Every time I hear it I'm transported to a time of simplicity, kindness, beauty, and wonder.

This is on the soundtrack of a generation of people. People who worked hard and enjoyed the simplicity of maybe a Sunday afternoon.

Long ago and far away there was beauty and peace.

This song brings back all the burst of young love and youth. It will always be a part of my life. I was 14 when I first heard it in the movie. Like all teenage boys, I had a huge crush on Sandra Dee. Now at 78, I relive all those wonderful memories and feelings. How great when a song can do this to you. 💙

Austrian born composer, Max Steiner captured the American spirit in the 1950s-60s, innocence, hope and confidence in the future. I was 7 in 1959 and am now 70 and this song is perhaps more meaningful now than then.

I was 6 or 7 years old the first time hearing this lovely song theme...life was very simple and so much easier...Will be in my heart eternally...

This song will forever have a special place in my heart...Back in 74-75 I was in the 5th grade, our music teacher Mrs Low would teach us kids as much classics of the past decades, or perhaps the songs that SHE loved, lol. Anyways, whenever she play on the piano ' A Summer Place' she would have me sing lead...At the time I thought 'no big deal I'll do the best I can '. I didn't think much of the song because as a kid you're busy trying to sing it correctly and not miss pronounce the words and such...But later on in life, I have such pride, and felt such honor that she thought my voice was worthy enough to sang lead for this, my all time favorite #1 instrumental ( lyric version too ) EVER.. Those were truly the best time of my life and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world...Thank you Mrs Low, wherever you are, for instilling the love of instrumentals, beautiful classics, to us kids...Bless your heart..

Great--sounding orchestra. As far as i know, this film-theme topped the charts in both UK and US back in 1960. Max Steiner wrote some lovely, melodic music.

The music brings me back to times when things were simple n much less unnecessary hazzles in life. So enjoyable, thanks to the musicians and the person who post it for sharing

Years ago David Symonds presented a show on Radio 2 called Much More Music. This was his theme tune. Absolutely glorious!
