Coincidentally I was looking at a Proteo Red one for sale in Australia just because it is virtually identical to mine here in the UK. I was staggered at the price! Here, a poor high mileage V6 is £2-3k, good cars with sub 100k miles are £5 -7k, and low mileage top condition cars may achieve £8-10k (on a good day). Still good value compared to some other cars of similar character/performance/rarity. What do they command in Australia?
Neil, I was told the first marker on the rev counter is actually 500rpm and not 0rpm when you look at the spacing in relation to the 1500rpm, 2000rpm 2500rpm markers etc, as my v6 idled in a similar position to that one. Looks like a nice car.
Do you scrape the rust off as much as poss, then hammerite it? I live in Scotland and my legacy has just been scrapped as the rust underneath was ridiculous. I need to take better care of my gtv when I get it.
Thanks Neil, 41k miles and it looks so much better without the spoiler and body kit. I'd definitely crack on with the underneath ASAP though - keep us informed!
In good condition for a 20-year-old car (2001) lots of advisories for corroded suspension components and brake lines on previous MOT's though the brake lines appear to have been replaced!? i guess you caught it just in time ...RE: scabby spots underneath. great project ... hope you put up vids tackling the scabby bits.
I have only 1 question: Is it raining acid in the UK? I have a similar mileage and age 166 and it's almost like new underneath. Not even surface rust on it.
Our winters are often sub-zero for 1-3 months so they put salt on the roads during this time to combat snow and ice, which also accelerates corrosion. During the rest of the year about two thirds of our days are overcast/cloudy, and rain or humidity are extremely common. Combine that with an ancient road network that's not very well maintained, a high level of traffic and the general low value of second-hand cars and it results in us Brits having some of the worst rust buckets in Western Europe.
This generation of Fiat/Alfa coupe’s are underrated and good quality cars really, especially when looked after. My 340hp Fiat Coupe 20VT looked even better at 275000km’s
good evening, i got a little problem with my 1999 gtv 6 alfa, i have trouble finding the tdc sensor. my car stalls even when heating. thank you for your response from a french alfist
Alfa and their suspension components! That’s a lot of rust up front, I just sold a job lot for a GTV including TRW front and rear shocks which your customer needed! How are you going to catch the wheel arch rust?
Although I've always loved the 916 GTV6 I'm not brave enough to buy one, especially at the age they are now. If I did though I'd want it to be like that one as it looks like a pretty good example.
You don't need to be brave. They go for silly money, anywhere from 1500 to 6000 or so. It's not like a RRover, where they cost 15k and then you have to put the same in again. Get yourself one, I'm just about to.
