A superb walk from Swanage to Corfe Castle.

Join Andy as he catches a steam train from Norden to Swanage, then walks back. He walks along Swanage sea front, then up to the top of Ballard Down, where the views are stunning. Andy then walks down to Ulwell, before climbing up Nine Barrow Down and along the ridge to Corfe Castle.

I joined the Southwest Coast Path on the cliffs above the beach. It’s quite well signposted.

Hi Andy ,,sorry to bother you,,first off congratulations on your solo marathon SWP walk ,,just Fantastic,,watched nearly all off them ,it was great and inspiring,,Andy I am Stewart 68 years age like you a young one ,,I am new to you tube ,,I just wanted to ask you a question,,I have being walking quite a few years now ,just like you I have done many sections off the Cornish coast North And Deep South but never in one go ,,so decided to do Minehead to Tintagel at the end off June and maybe if ok might end up at padstow and call it a day ,,and maybe go back next year ,,but from Monday next week I am having a trial short walk from Weymouth to Swanage to try my 85 litres rucksack out and kit will be camp site and wild camp along the way ,,what was the weight off your osprey ruck sack Andy , I have just weighed mine it comes out 14 kilos it feels bloody heavy,,a bit worried,,but I’ll get n with it ,,just found out bloody Ranges are closed,,I don’t know how to get around it,,another test ,,sorry it’s a long text Andy ,,all the best Stewart Devizes wilts 🏃‍♂️👍👍

Hi Stewart. An 85 litre rucksack is rather large and the temptation will be to fill it. I had an Osprey Atmos 65 litre which on its own ( empty) weighs 2.3kg, which isn’t the lightest. You say your pack weighs 14kg. Does that include food and water? If so, that isn’t too bad. Some ultra-lightweight hikers can get their packs down to 11-12kg ( with food & water) but that is quite extreme. Personally, I opted to carry more weight but have the comfort of a larger tent and one or two ‘luxury’ items. At best my pack weighed 16.4kg and most of the time was closer to 17.5kg. As you may know, there are some ‘challenging’ hills on the Weymouth to Swanage stretch, so you will certainly get a good trial of you and your kit! If you can delay your start, so that you arrive at Lulworth ranges at the weekend, they will be open. If not, the diversion is a long and boring walk, ( whichever option you take) with lots of tarmac walking. Good luck with you walk. It will be tough and probably ‘hurt’ but eventually your body will become accustomed to carrying the extra weight. Don’t push too hard on the first day. Best wishes Andy

@@andyshikes3425 Cheers Andy going to take all that info in from you getting nervous now got a camp ⛺️ site booked at wool sounds ok weather looks good original Andy was going to do last week but the weather was shocking so I changed it around to next week I go Monday morning train from Westbury to Weymouth get into Weymouth 11am probably get the bus or a lift from wool to kimmeridge to get back on the path all the best Andy I will let you know how I got on 👍👍🏃‍♂️
