A number of people have asked if they can help support my channel - I don't have any adverts on my channel (and don't intend to) but if anyone wishes to help defray the expenses of making these videos in some small way, they can buy me a cup of coffee! www.buymeacoffee.com/MarkJohnMaguire
Just a note to say Mark is working hard on the next episode. The reason it takes so long is that (unlike many youtubers) Mark researches from primary sources - police files, witness interview statements, contemporary newspaper accounts, court trial transcipts and other relevant material (photos etc) including the aftermath and story of the participants and their descendants in the following years (where possible). From these, he analyses and constructs a timeline, developes his case and ends up writing about 15,000 words (the length of an Undergraduate thesis). From this, he writes a 1500 word narrative (about an hour's worth) to lay out the story in the best manner. Then he compiles and produces the video, drawing sketches where photos are lacking, and records the narrative and prologue face-to-camera piece. It's a long job! But this is why these documentaries are such a high standard in terms of accuracy, analyses, detail and professionalism. :)
Hello from Australia, Melanie. An overwhelming number of us re so grateful for every moment invested in these productions. Take your time - we can certainly wait. And thankyou!
Well worth waiting for Melanie. You can tell from the 1st video viewed how meticulously his videos are made. They stand out. I haven't seem every true crime on YT, but I've a hell of a ton! This is one of the best. Better than some very expensively put on channels. And I'd even say some mainstream like 20/20 from NYC. Where the music is too much, too loud and there's way too much talk. Love this channel. Greetings from Michigan, USA xx
I agree... I sooo love him dearly....... I hope his channel grow into over a million subscribers...... ❤️❤️🙏🏼 He is just Ah-Mazingly the best I've followed and watched so far...... I wish only Greatness for this Amazing gentleman ❤️
Much like others here have said, these are a real delight to listen to.I love the atmosphere that you create with the music and images and in particular, I enjoy your analysis of each case.
Nobody tells it better; makes me feel bad for the rest. Nobody does it half as good as you. Truly, Mark, Sir, you're the best! Your videos make my day and I am glad to see a new one drop. Thank you.
i have listened to all previous episodes on this channel about 5 times each. they keep me company when i’m cleaning and help lull me to sleep at night. i can never get enough of these stories! please keep them coming 🥳
I do that to! Clean up with my air buds in listening to Mark...can not get enough of his channel but I wait patiently because I realise that the amount of work he puts into each video is phenomenal. Best channel on RU-vid. I tell everyone about it ❤️
"And his own niece." Now that's disgusting. I'm baffled that I missed this when first posted! My absolute favorite. Mark is so talented and his voice is utterly soothing. I've listened to all of these over and over.
Apparently Mrs. Murfitt strongly denied that her husband had had an inappropriate relationship with his niece, although she was willing to tell the police that he had frequently been unfaithful to her. (Take that for what it is worth.)
I agree with everything you've said. Mark's voice (replete with sarcasm) is the best part of the story. I listen to his essays over and over. As an insomniac, playing them through the night is better than drugs!
Another masterpiece! One of the most intriguing murder mysteries ever. This is absolutely fascinating, carefully researched, very well presented and scripted tale of the 60-year old mystery of who murdered wealthy Suffolk business-man William Murfitt. Mark- although, you named the true murderer, housekeeper, who was a horrible woman and very free with the murder, but this cunning woman by her glib explanations got away with murder. The research undertaken by yourself on the case, including old photos and also the post- crime life of the accused are excellent. I love your sketches, as always, they show that you convey the story using these simple, talented drawings. Thank you, Mark, this was a brilliant story and your usual high standard of narration. Congrats!
Excellent presentation, Mark, per usual!! What a psychopath she was! It's incredible that she lived a non-stop life of crime and still managed to stay out of jail AND live to be 97 while amassing a fortune! She's certainly proof of the old saying, "there is no justice in this world!" Cheers from Oregon ~ Danyel
I wonder how many residents of the hotel found themselves missing items, whilst the hotel was under her management? It was the perfect job they paid her to reside, she had keys to every room, and the perfect excuse if she was ever caught, towels, maintenance of the room etc...
@Barbara Lawson I understand your feelings. Truly exceptional storytellers such as Mark are so good at what they do, we've "invited" them into our homes and lives. They feel like friends. 🙂
Yay, a new video! The story isn’t far from where I grew up either, I’m only a few minutes in so I hope to hear of some familiar places. I swear I’ve watched all your other videos three times now 🙈. You are my favourite channel because you clearly put so much time and effort into the research and illustrations. Thank you!
I'm so guilty, I put his video on at night, every night to fall asleep 🙃 .... His voice is calming and relaxing, I fall asleep and end up having to rewatch his videos LoL 😂
Best video yet! Truth is most definitely stranger than fiction in this case. Prior to watching, I had never heard of this murder, so l have thoroughly enjoyed learning about it. Thanks so much Mark.
How many eccentric old ladies baking cakes and telling tall tales are actually former monsters of crime? An unsettling observation indeed. Once again, bravo Master Storyteller Maguire!
It would have been a banger of a Christie novel, but, in the detectives' defense, they seemed as certain as can be without hard evidence; sadly they had to convince a judge and a jury too.
@@TaramiBedona True enough. It's only that Miss Marple's ability to find damning clues is unparalleled; it's almost like Christie wrote her that way ;)
Wow! That was an engaging and compelling story. Being a bold blatant liar does not seem to be harmful to your health - just the health of those around you. Nicely told.
My favourite listening, in no order of preference: Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, The Eagles Hotel California, any Beatles album, and They Got Away With Murder. Musical, absorbing, poetic, thought provoking, says interesting things about the human condition ... fabulous and endlessly entertaining. Thank you so much, Mark ❤️
These are wonderful. No horrible screeching tyres pointless egotistical actors and useless soundbites. Based on facts, information and a solid insight into the subject. Marvellous, thank you.
Such an intriguing story ! I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was an hour of absolute delight . At the beginning I never suspected Mr.Walker to be an accomplice however, due to the fact that he actually took her , a mere housekeeper, to social gatherings seemed suspicious and the 2 were later married made me realize it. Mary was a sinister woman and a thief ! I couldn’t get over the pattern of hers excusing herself to be found going through other people’s belongings! That must’ve been rather too awkward! Thanks Mark for another engaging video.
(Light spoilers) The murderer living to almost a hundred is just another mark against her! It seems like the deep-seated spitefulness of certain people keeps even Death at bay. Enjoyed the episode a great deal, thank you sir.
I've met many a living example of this. It's as if they once heard the saying about the "good dying young" and decided that wasn't for them XD. Of course, I've also met a few sweet old centenarians, but who knows what they got up to in the past?
Mark Maguire...as a professional newsreader and voice over artist, I wish to compliment you on your narration. One of the best I have heard on You Tube documentaries.
@@TheyGotAwayWithMurder I am a newsreader in NZ. I love to hear English being pronounced and enunciated correctly. In other words..British as she is spoken! Well done Sir..it's off to the BBC for you!
Mark - thank you so much for another excellent case study. It's always a pleasure to hear your voice and watch your hard work in its finished product. Cheers!
Arrgh! Even when I know what is coming (getting away with murder) I feel frustrated that they did! And absolutely no comeuppance ever! In fact, Mary lived to a ripe old age and died wealthy. Phooey. Love your channel, and always enjoy your narration. Many thanks!
@@tessaducek5601 Actually she lived to be very old but she was lonely , lost her sight and her house was burgled at least twice. However I believe she did leave her money to worthwhile charities so maybe some good came of her life.
Excellent episode MJM! oh the tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive......shame she[they] got away with a cruel murder. Mrs Chandler fits the modern assessment of sociopath with narcissistic overtones and she deserved prison - as did her partner in crime. Your artwork is superb - atmospheric to a perfect degree. Thanks :)
As an American, you’re welcome for Biden. Lol I I’ve been pretending your PM was also our PM, New York’s, for the last four year. I like him, but I m happy to give him up at last. We are lucky to have such a wonderful story teller aren’t we? B)
isn't it true that bad weeds never die, their roots are firmly implanted. we can only hope that hell has welcomed these psychopaths with open arms. what a great story. i shall proceed to find every location you mention, on google earth and enjoy the ghosts that are left behind. thank you so much!
Brilliant, thank you Mark! Another example of just how far policing methods have come in a relatively short time. There’s no way she would get away with it now. I wonder if the two sons knew/suspected that their father was murdered?
There was more wrong with Mary Chandler than her falling on her head as a child, methinks. Just listening to her antics gives me the willies. A dangerous and cold-blooded person if ever there was one. On another note: 'Fell on her head as a child' made me laugh out loud - my sister fell on her head (really!) from a height of more than two meters as a child, and she is the kindest and most wonderful person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
@June Roberts I had similar thoughts about "falling on her head" as well. Seems several criminal minds/murderers in childhood sustained fall to their head. One prime example Jeffrey Dahmer. Followed up with "never the same again". Personally if happened with one of my children. Seeing a significant noticeable change in personality afterwards, would leave me very concerned. Seeking medical advice and or treatment. Glad your sister didn't turn criminal, lol.
Your content is very well-made. Thank you for putting it out there for us. One small thing (truly small) is that in 1938 a shilling was actually worth 12 pence. That was before the revaluation to 5 pence. Before Decimal Day in 1971 there were 240 pence in one pound sterling. Twelve pence made a shilling, and twenty shillings made a pound. All that said, again, your channel is becoming one of my favorites. So glad I discovered you!
I think Mary Chandler would still have got away with this even today,. I am glad you mentioned Mrs Walker because I was wondering whether Mrs Walker was murdered by either or both of these two. This would explain why Chandler was willing to put up what she did to his car, most men would not have.
Oh, the delight of finding out there is another episode of "They got away with murder" - and what a sinister protagonist! Thank you for such an enthralling tale. I hope your research brings you as much pleasure as you give to your audience with the telling!
Indulge yourself! Afternoon tea and murder are a respectable form of entertainment - it is probably why I favour old cases too - they become historical, remote...
Absolutely fascinating and boy are you a good researcher!! Very high standard of work indeed.Had this been fiction it would probably have been dismissed as being too far fetched.I ve never even heard of this case before how on earth did you discover this story? I can see alot of work has gone into this and I particularly like the epilogue of all those involved. There are other similar channels on youtube but yours is in a league of its own please keep them coming.
OHH great just what I needed , ok already in bed now to drift off to sleep listening to this newest story ahhhhh relax ok now starting. Thanks been waiting for the new one.
