Greetings from San Francisco. It appears that our cities are similar in 2 major ways: we have lots of hills (switch-push skills are a benefit), and decaying road infrastructure (bad tarmac). I can relate to the declining longboarding scene that you are noticing in your city. Prior to 2020 there were a lot of longboard commuters in San Francisco, majority of them on electric longboards. Then when the lockdowns happened, all of that changed, and sadly, the scene has never recovered. I'm attributing it to evolving trends wherein longboards are being replaced with E-scooters, E-bikes, and E-unicycles. It's all about speed and range nowadays, and less with fitness and "that longboard flow". I'm fairly certain, however, that the trend will swing the other way where the simplicity and freedom of being able to push a longboard over long distances is way more satisfying than standing/sitting on a motorized platform that relies on batteries. Keep longboarding culture alive...and don't stop pushing.
Thanks for letting me know about San Francisco. The good sign is that road bicycles are still here and I see many really fit guys riding them. So if we improve awareness and availability, the community could recover with new and old members. That's why I'm posting these videos.
Thrilled to see a comment from the local, thank you. Sorry, I'll reply in English because to my shame I'm still not able to express complex thoughts in Serbian. I've been to many areas of Belgrade on my longboards and can definitely say that it is possible to ride in most of the places here. Of course some are suited better then the others. The key here are softer wheels > 80mm (I'd recommend 90), dropdown deck with moderate flex and technique which I talk about in this video. You will suffer on a classic skateboard with small hard wheels and stiff deck. You won't be very comfortable and will have limited speed on classic small cruisers like landyachtz dinghy (though they are fine on bike lanes with new tarmac). But I've tested boards like ly dropcat 38, pantheon supersonic/pranayama, loaded icarus/dervish/vanguard and they are all ok. For cruising for long distances (LDP) I'd recommend dropdowns.
@@BalkanWalks66 Thanks a lot for replying and all the suggestions! I will check out the longboards you mentioned and if I manage to learn to ride properly (hopefully soon haha) I will definitely consider investing a bit more and getting a nice dropdown! Honestly bicycles are great, you can put stuff on them and avoid the traffic, but you are tied to them and can’t go into buses and cars and can’t bring them indoors with you and I don’t like leaving a bike outdoors in Belgrade. That’s why I’m considering a board because it’s faster and it’s more fun than walking but still doesn’t limit you. Keep up with great work, it’s really refreshing and inspiring! Samo jako!!!
@@BalkanWalks66 Yes I am, and I would gladly, but I have moved out of Belgrade last year, so l’m not around anymore… When I come back I will reach out for sure!
Greetings from a Brazilian longboarder! Your city seems pretty nice to ride! I'm also enjoy a lot to commute on the streets with a Longboard, and i enjoyed a lot your video. Thanks for the tour and the conversation!
Ciao from Italy/as you know! I saw very rarely longboard commuters and I don't know if I would encourage it for safety, but there is a scene of both Dancing and Surfskating... and a handful of LDPers, me included, but we focus more on bike paths without cars, something that you don't usually find in the city, but more on the outside/along rivers generally. Surely for the city, a longboard has the advantage of no punctures and fitting in a locker once you arrived, or also on public transportation... but the risk of falling is kind of a deal breaker for me for everyday, maybe "in the rush", commuting.
Ciao! I totally get what you mean - falling down is a part of this game :) But yesterday I went to the office on my longboard, it took 27 minutes and it was good. And in the evening we had a great ride with friends, overtaking the buses and making taxi drivers mad. And my true hero is Bartek, he literally rides everywhere. He was the one who inspired me to make videos myself.
Another Plus for Longboarding is no pressure on the hands like on a bicycle. So for manual workers with a lifetime of cycling its not adding to the wear and tear on the hands and wrists (assuming no bad falls)
Unfortunately it does not go without falls. As an amateur piano player I also try to mitigate the arms injuries, that's why I always wear protection gloves. Well, everything in this life has its costs.
very nice! the pantheon supersonic is CHOICE. i just got mine and i'm getting used to it, the somewhat dead rear truck is a bit weird at first and i'm figuring out carving downhill. living in NYC, so unfortunately i can't just take off and ride throughout half of the city because i'll inevitably get murdered by a car or a delivery bike, so having to look for safe (and flat) spots to ride - but there are plenty :) stay safe out there!
Yeah, dealing with a city traffic is a skill that needs to be managed separately. When I was a road cyclist it took me maybe a year to get used to it (I didn't drive a car at that moment). I may suggest that you have a look at MeetJay channel, if I remember correctly most of his longboarding videos are from the streets of NYC. Keep riding!
Haven't tried Penny on this type of road surface, but on LY Dinghy (with 72mm wheels) it's way too tough here when going off a bike lane. Hope your city is better.
@@BalkanWalks66 it may be crazy but I just want to make the 22” penny work for me it’s just so small and funny. It’s a dream :D one day I’ll get an ldp pantheon!
Hi, my name is Johann and I am a 50 year old rider, I live in the southwest of France but I work in Paris. I watched a lot of your videos to make a choice on the longboard that I should buy between the pranayama and the trip, I could not decide I chose the carbon trip. I thank you very much for your channel because it makes you want to ride a longboard. However, I had a few remarks to make on this last video: I wanted to make a small comparison with France. Here the law prohibits riding on sidewalks or at a maximum speed of 6 km / h and the regulations are really very strict because they only allow riding on cycle roads with specific equipment such as lights in front and behind, a helmet, a bell and specific insurance. Because of this many people prefer to buy a bike. At the 10th minute you say that € 400 is cheap compared to a € 10,000 bike. But we find electric scooters or electric skateboards at the same price and beginners don't know how to brake so they prefer to go for this kind of product ready to ride without experience. Moreover, in France with taxes, the supersonic is over €500. At the 15th minute you talk about the push mongo. The push mongo is pushing with the foot at the back of the board. Changing feet or switching is going from regular to gouffy. Regarding young people who do figure skating or dancing, I think they prefer to impress young girls rather than go hiking with the old guys! Thanks for your videos and keep it up! Best regards.
Hi Johann, and thank you for your comment. I didn't expect anyone to watch the video so long and do it with attention 😀 I've watched many videos from France cities. My bet is that the strict rules for sidewalks are because of the mature developed bike/skate infrastructure. In Serbia we are just at the beginning here. Maybe in the future, things will move further, and more restrictions will be applied here also. And you are right about the prices, but my take here is that we compare one of the best mass-produced complete longboard setups to the cheapest Chinese scooters. Are they even capable of going 15 km in the hills? Thank you for your kind words. Keep rolling!
