One thing it never shows too well in the videos is the eerie green tint that also comes with seeing tornadoes. It's is hard to describe but it's almost comparable to being in a haunted/spooky situation. The little extra that can't be explained as easy as it is felt.

I have a decent theory about why the sky turns green, Imma put it lower under "Read more" if you want it to stay a mystery though. The sky turns green, because much like a normal sunny day, the light is reflecting off of the water. Though in this case, the light will usually be reflecting off of both water droplets, and hailstones in the atmosphere, giving it a more greenish tint. Still scary as hell though.

@@CodeWolfieOG It's the light refracting off the hail, so you are correct, supercells that don't form tornadoes are often still green because they are big hailers.

@11:23 its important to remember the EF rating is based on damage. The strongest and biggest tornado ever could form but if it doesn't hit anything it wouldn't get an EF5 rating.

11:05 yeah tornado EF scale isnt based on size but rather on damage ratings to buildings. you could have a giant 300 mph tornado but if it's just ripping across an open field, it'd only be an EF0. maybe an EF1 if it damaged like idk hay bales or smth

If you want a tornado vid to react to, check out "The Jarrell Texas Tornado - The Worst F5 In History". No footage of the actual storm. None needed. It tells the story well, and you may find yourself profoundly affected. Another, with videos from the day, is "Jarrell tornado survivors remember ‘The Last F5’ to hit Central Texas, 25 years later". That storm was brutal.

Recky, the reason that big big tornado only got a 3 is that it was mostly in open country and they judge is strength by how much damage it causes. If it's mostly out in the open, it didn't cause enough damage to judge it higher.
@audreyslivinglife
@audreyslivinglife Месяц назад
Recky, you have to remember that tornadoes are rated by the amount of damage they cause. The largest most violent tornado can be observed in a field and receive a lower rating that a smaller less powerful tornado that destroys a lot of structures.

@Recky if you want to see a clearer example of being in an EF4 torando, watch the footage Clem Schultz shot as it closed in on his home. When they played it on The Weather Channel, Mike Bettis (who survived a direct hit in his car in the El Reno tornado) said that Clem was "filming death."

Howdy from Texas! As a former Building Inspector. I can say that there is, already, Tornado proof structures that have been proven all over the world to consistently survive direct hits from Even EF-5 tornadoes. They are concrete dome structures and can easily be built to just about any size from shelter size to arena size. The aerodynamic shape of the dome structure does not allow the wind any purchase upon the buildings . Because they are generally round and smooth, without any roof eves or Gables for the wind of a tornado to gain any purchase on. Tornadoes tend to simply pass right over these strong structures and do little to no damage. But human beings are very slow to accept such a radical departure from the traditional wooden houses complete with flat walls, roof eves and gables. Everything a tornado needs to gain purchase and be able to apply tremendous pressure to. Resulting in entire houses torn to shreds or simply lifted whole from their foundations and thrown hundreds of yards away. Dome home technologies have been around since the sixties. But because of their unusual shape and aesthetically alien appearance. Most Americans are suspicious of just how practical they are to actually have to live in full time. But more practical and sometimes more adventurous people who have taken the chance to find out. Can't say enough about how great these homes are to live in. As well as the peace of mind they give those who live in them when dangerous weather conditions develop in their areas. If it were left up to me. No other construction techniques would be allowed in tornado Alley or any coastal area homes, schools and businesses. Concrete dome homes are not only tornado proof, but also, hurricane, flood, fire, earth quake and termite proof. What's not to like Maybe some day ignorant people will realize that a building doesn't need to be arcatectually complicated to be both beautiful and strong. And the traditional house and building designs are very popular and desired. But Dome homes and buildings can also be considered beautiful. But are much stronger, more practical, more environmentally sensible and friendly. As well as being practically bulletproof from all weather events. Then just maybe we can put some of these greedy insurance companies out of business.

In the Chicago area on July 15, 2014 there were 14 reported tornadoes including 10 at once. That includes also straight line winds at hurricane force of 80-90 miles per hour. That means that over 1,300 square miles and a population of over 5 million were under a tornado warning at once.

You can have a collossal 2 mile-wide tornado that does absolutely no damage(thus making it an EF0), but you can have a tiny "drill bit" tornado that has winds in excess of 200mph that rips up structures and tosses cars and trees like toys that gets a rating up to EF5 after damage survey. So, just because you have a huge tornado, doesn't mean it's gonna be a huge disaster

4:55 - Storm chasers are almost always able to predict the track of tornadoes with relative accuracy due to the overwhelming majority traveling from SW to NE. Amazingly, there have only been 4 storm-related deaths recorded in the history of the profession. Tragically, 3 of those deaths were during the El Reno EF3 in 2013, which both took a weird path that swept south, then north & also accelerated dramatically as it approached the highway the chasers were using.

There's a few signs that I've been told to look out for that indicates a tornado may form. First, if your area has experienced extreme heat for a few days, and then all of a sudden the temperature starts dropping. A green tint will often be in the clouds, which is also a sign of hail accompanying the storm. Due to the pressures involved in the formation of a tornado, sudden ear aches or ear popping can occur minutes before a tornado strikes. And if you're outside and all of a sudden you realize you can no longer hear any birds or other animals you normally would hear.... go for cover. If the animals are hiding, then it's about to get real. Also, the size of a tornado has nothing to do with it's EF rating. You can have a tornado that's a mile wide, but if it stays in a field and doesn't damage anything, then it's only rated an EF0-EF1. Then you can have a small rope tornado with a tiny base that could rip a house to shreds and get an F5 rating if it leaves a clean slate in its wake.

Not so fun fact on the F/EF tornado rating scale, rated for DAMAGE DONE, not how strong the tornado is. El Reno 2013 was rated EF 3, it was a 2.6 mile or 4+ Km maximum width, multi vortex, Abnormal tornado with 250+mph winds. Plenty of others just like it, stupidly STRONG but didn't do enough damage to get the rating people think those tornadoes deserve

Tornado's happen on all Continents,that includes the Arctic and Antarctic. As I said before I am a chaser( over 45 yrs.) we do not believe in radars we go by our senses, nor do we tape that is not our job, we make sure people and animals are out of harms way 9 they are our only priority. Today it has become pathetic, some chasers are just one or two people that is asking for a disaster. The drivers should NEVER have any other role then keeping eyes on the road, none of these carry medical persons on board another BIG problem. Sometimes I wonder if they are doing this for the clicks or cause they care, and people have came to the point they would rather film then take shelter. Sometimes after these stunts I wonder why I care. Maybe I shouldn't!!!!!!!!!!!
