Paul Bunyan is a lumberjack folk hero, and, yes, there are giant concrete statues of him and Babe, his blue ox, in my hometown of Bemidji, Minnesota. He is best known in the logging country of Minnesota, Michigan, and a little of Wisconsin.

The Paul Bunyan flume right at Mall of America used to give me nightmares. Literally - I recall one where I dreamed a giant Paul Bunyan animatronic reached down and plucked me right out of the flume. While I didn't mind flume rides as a whole, for some reason that one twisted my gut into knots when I decided to ride it. Anyway, just wanted to share a little of my childhood trauma xD
@sarahgould5435
@sarahgould5435 3 месяца назад
@@Kovitlac Never went on that one, but it might have been worse if you'd already seen the Tall Tales illustration where Paul Bunyan is holding his giant skillet while his regular-size buddies grease it by skating around inside it with large chunks of bacon fat strapped to their shoes. That one always struck me as a bit weird and dangerous.

The saying you’re thinking of is “It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission,” but that’s not one of Fat Electrician’s slogans. The slogan I believe you may have confused it with is “It’s never a war crime the first time.”

For historical context: Ford gave Nixon a pardon in order for "The Nation to put Watergate behind us and move on to other issues". Which, politically speaking, actually worked because the US government that had been pretty much "grid-lock" dealing with Watergate was actually able to start discussing other issues. HOWEVER: Because Ford did this BEFORE Nixon could at least "stand trial" (actually BE impeached, or go to court over Watergate) a large portion of the American population, on a levels of the "political spectrum" felt that Nixon was not facing "judgement/punishment" despite the fact that he did resign from office (Only US president to "step down" while still having time left on his time in office, so there was no real "punishment" left to due since the impeachment process would only have removed him from office anyway). ...... So, without a true "trial" to take place and OFFICIALLY declare Nixon as guilty/innocent in the actions surrounding Watergate, it has left a cloud over the issue of hat was within the limits of being President and what wasn't, or CLEARLY RULES for the future. You ended up with a lot of people upset, who would never vote for Ford if he would want to run for office OR would be willing/able to trust a "Full Ford Administration" because there would always be the "one hand washes the other" type of feeling (or cutting deals to help out "the homies") for almost every action or policy pushed forward. As such, Ford's "legacy" is kind of a mixed bag. One one hand, he did something EXTREMELY unpopular in order to put an issue aside and move on to other business........ which he did. But on the other hand, it left the population feeling CHEATED out of at bare minimum an actual court case to determine if Nixon was actually guilty or not, AND what charges he would have faced. Which, with 20/20 hindsight, most political experts NOW say that Ford should have at least WAITED until after the "court case was decided" and THEN issue any pardons or reducing punishments. (Which Ford could do as President due to the legal issues being "Federal charges") But by issuing the Pardon FIRST, it instantly stopped any possibility of Nixon having to deal with a courtroom.

Recky, one thing he didn't seem to mention is that the N. Korean soldiers didn't use guns. They murdered Bonitas by bludgeoning him with a club and murdered Barrett by hacking him with an ax. Barrett was found later and died on the way to the hospital. They wounded EVERYONE else (save one man) by bludgeoning them with the clubs. Wikipedia has a good article about it that includes photos. Truly a ghastly story.

Yikes! We moved to Okinawa in 1978. I guess we missed all the excitement by a couple of years! Although, South Koreans, Americans and other allies used to participate in war games in the area, called Team Spirit. And inevitably, North Koreans would sneak across and murder some of the participating soldiers. You’d never hear it in the news, though. And why I was a nervous Nelly when my hubby was sent to participate in those war games. Oy!

Some kept low key so the public could sleep well at night, others kept low key so pride & ego wouldn't force a knucklehead to take the extra step that commits nations to war or at least a skirmish/battle between military forces.

Yeah, tunnels. Allegedly North Korea, especially around the DMZ is honeycomed with tunnels so they can more troops and armor around without being seen by spy satelites. I say allegedly because the only confirmation comes from defectors and what can be gained from intercepts and observation. I believe any possible military action by the US against the NK forces would act as if the tunnels are there, and would be dealt with appropriately. The existence of those tunnels play a part of a PS2 game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, where they are targets that on occasion need to be destroyed.
