My wish is that everyone could just stop debating the prescription drug use and why he died, and just talk about what a great talent Elvis was. Talk about that voice of his. Talk about his generosity. Talk about what a beautiful person he was, on the outside and the inside. Let's talk about all the charities that Elvis gave to that no one even knows about. Let's talk about the trend setter that he was. Let's talk about his loyalty to his fans, family and even that darn Colonel Parker who worked him to death. Let's talk about how Elvis was a pioneer in so many ways, the first to accomplish so many different things. Let's talk about the humble and caring person that he was. Let's talk about what a gifted performer that he was. I just don't understand why everyone has to debate it into the ground about the drug use, when there is so much more to talk about on Elvis Presley. I would really like for the younger generations to hear about those things, not just that he was addicted to prescription drugs. Yes it happened to him, just like so many others. But let's give the new Elvis fans something more to learn about Elvis Presley than the drug use.

Absolutely, no one is or will ever be perfect, they should have never pounded this prescription thing, I believe the Colonel and Dr. Nick were 100% in cahoots to profit at Elvis’ expense. I believe he died of sheer exhaustion and stress trying to please everyone. Dr. Nick (his personal physician) was eventually indicted for malpractice with the prescriptions he wrote “for” Elvis. That should be the end of anyone’s doubt on this subject. Your comment is perfect and the truth, I have studied Elvis almost 45 of my 57 years, probably have over 50 books, records, CD’s, and movies of him and those who played his role (Kurt Russell in 1979 up to Austin Butler 2022). He will remain unmatched in talent. I simply love the guy. Been to Graceland once and am going again this year✝️🙏

Yes, but if we can help a struggling artist or musician today that is dealing with drug abuse then drug awareness is needed. We shouldn't brush it under the rug and make believe it doesn't kill people. Elvis was afraid tk talk about it because he though it would make his image or ego appear weak.
@katgirlblue

@@forrestsaxon3707 you can believe in Santa Claus if you want to, but Dr. Nick and Parker were not "in cahoots." If you have really read every book then you know that. There's absolutely no proof of that whatsoever. If you claim that there is, then kindly just list which books, and the page numbers where that is written. It seems like you're one of many who have seen the fantastic new movie, but think it's fact. It isn't literal.

I suffer from chonic pain from a car accident when I was 17. I have taken prescribed pain meds since my accident. I needed them to relieve my pain so I can function normally such as work, laugh & play. Some doctors over the years believe me about my pain & others say I'm addicted......I never abused the pain pills ever.......but after 2008 I had trouble getting help for my pain because my prescribing doctor moved to Egypt he was actually a doctor that treated addiction & pain. He is the first doctor to say I wasn't addicted that I was in chronic pain. Well after he left I ran out of my last prescription of pain meds 2 months later! Now if i was addicted I would not have been able to stretch my prescription out an extra month! I just want people to realize that there is a difference between chronic pain & addiction. I don't know what Elvis did but I want to think he took his prescriptions like he was supposed too. I understand that he may have taken extra when the pain wasn't subsided that is because he wasn't dosed properly for someone who wasin chronic pain I believe.

Never ever lazy always a good soldier he did what he felt he had to do to make everyone that was counting on him happy. Some people will always want to point the finger. He died 6 weeks into a vacation that's not working to death for a 42 year old, that's how he lived for years, playing around 40 dates a year and the rest of the time was vacation/ party time. He wasn't endlessly on the TV doing chat shows or anything, albums were recorded in a couple of day's, others were just put together as compilation's of previous recordings.. Only interviews were brief and often to promote a tour, it was a case of keep exposure to the absolute minimum, you want to see him buy a ticket.. He wasn't like other performers of the time touring for half the year, he preferred to stay in one place, saved endless traveling.. His most work was done up until the end of 1956 after that he was established and the minimum work for maximum pay system was in play.. People need to except someone for who they were.. You hear crap about being forced to work to pay off debts it's ridiculous.. This is the same man who says hey guys let's all get Harley's, let's all have pickups, let's all have a horse each, what about matching caddys.. A Memphis mafia guys getting married I'll buy them a house and a car each as a wedding gift because I'm broke.. In 1956 he gave away a 5000 dollar ring as a door prize.. 5000 dollars in 1956, about the price of 2 new cars at the time.. He bought his private Doctor a house and a caddilac, his cook a house.. The man always paid his taxes, there was never any suggestion of any tax avoidance associated with Elvis or his manager, like a lot of other stars of the time... Elvis couldn't spend money fast enough. I'd heard he had 5m in the bank when he died, that was ready cash, he obviously had other properties his planes cars and everything else.. I was surprised he had anything.. All that said he was a great singer and influenced a generation but was a very flawed person with big problems

@@philipswilson You know a lot, but you don't have a clue about the art of Elvis Presley, do you? Elvis is the only musician in the "hall of fame of music" - because his voice is incredibly diverse. Elvis developed his own dance style. Elvis created his own style of music with R&B (music historians also say that Elvis invented the pop sound). Do you know that the media called Elvis Presley "King of Pop" back in the 60's? There are original reports of it from the 60s. According to historians, Elvis Presley totally changed the world of young people and made a new era possible. In 2018, Elvis Presley was posthumously awarded the Peace Medal for Great Worldwide Influence. With 3000 music awards to date, Elvis has the most awards in the music world. Would you like more examples? Anyone who explains Elvis' art as simple (I've never heard of anyone else either) has no real idea about art.

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425I agree with you yet have to ask: Where was all the marketing in the 50's? Everyone was against Elvis because his dancing was offensive to the mommies and daddies of teenagers at that time. Elvis did not have a Twitter Account, Facebook or Instagram or full on tv exposure for that matter. Elvis only had the radio, magazines and news papers. It is much easier for artists to get exposure and therefore popularity today than it was in the 50's and 60's. The Colonel caused damage for Elvis as well. People liked Elvis after having met him in person and everyone found working with him easy because he was very humble and listened to other people's insights. When the Colonel got involved he tanked those relationships. The Colonel did not make Elvis, Elvis made Elvis. The only right moves the Colonel made was to release a few new songs of Elvis (that was pre-recorded) during his army service and to sign him up in Vegas in the beginning. Other than that the Colonel is responsible for putting Elvis in a rut and effectively dead ending his career in his prime. In fact, if Elvis upheld the firing of the Colonel and employed another manager I think his image at the time of his death would be much more positive. The Colonel did nothing to let Elvis' fans in on how sick Elvis was after he'd died, he just stopped working when there was nothing more in it for him. The Colonel is portrayed as some hero in the new Elvis movie, to my mind he was an opportunistic schmuck and a monster.

I appreciate his friend Charlie Hodge putting things in perspective. Elvis’ health condition required him to take specific meds for his health issues. What does not make sense is the thousands of meds Dr. Nick prescribed for Elvis in 1977 alone. This goes beyond blood pressure and other needed meds. He prescribed uppers and downers and sleeping meds and controlled substance meds etc etc. it’s all documented and this is why Dr. Nick lost his license ( although he should have also gone to jail). The amount of meds in poor Elvis’ system when he died was horrific. Dr. Nick and Parker could have put a stop to that but they were trying to satisfy Elvis because he was the money-maker. Yes tru. Elvis would go actively and seek narcotics interstate if he uad to . usually it happened if his doctor said no. Yeah. To me its so simple Elvis liked to get high he had doctors everywhere probably in most cities. They were to give elvis everything he needed. Im not defending Dr. nick but he had to go with elvis because when he didnt go elvis went crazy with other doctors prescribing pills. With nick there he regulated elvis intake of drugs. Elvis even talked about purchasing a drug store and owning it. If you read books on elvis early life friends would say that elvis stole diet pills from his mother because he liked the buzz and when he went into the army he was given uppers. Diet pills in the 50s contained meth. Charlie hodge saying elvis took pills because of health problems is lies because elvis was healthy in his early years. The problems elvis had was because of long term use of pain pills. Opiods cause stomach problems because you get constipation also liver problems because of aspirin opiods contain. There are many other doctors beside nick that elvis bought houses for and cadillacs. Elvis even knew the physicians desk reference book start to end. When he showed up at doctors houses he knew exactly what to grab. But Elvis was very addicted to pills.

Ohhh Charlie, you're leaving out a whole lot of the rest of the story. How many people who were as close if not even closer to Elvis than you were, how many of them have all told similar stories about how out of control Elvis was with his "prescriptions". And you can't blame the media on this one. You've got Red West, Sonny West, his cousin Billy, Larry Geller, Dave Heblar, Jerry Shilling, Marty Lacker, Joe Esposito, Lamar Fike (and that's a list just off the top of my head) ALL on video. And that bit about having everyone's prescriptions in his name for tax write off purposes ? Please... By the way, I've been a huge Elvis fan since I was a kid back in the late 60s.

Elvis carried such a heavy life load & suffered in silence with so much, it is a wonder how he could function as well as he did for the length of time that we had him. Totally remarkable! Truly, God had His hand imprinted on him; & Elvis undoubtedly impacted our hearts for a lifetime, because of it. Regardless of the life struggles, Elvis set so many people's lives with joy & content; I don't think he could ever know or understand the degree of it. Hello from England Only those who were there would have the experience to talk about that time like Charlie and he has been gone over 15 years. Looking back at the life of Elvis during the early years of touring from 1954-1958 just before he was drafted he must have done 500 hundred shows with Scotty, Bill and DJ and they would travel by car North, South, East and West and would do 2 shows, and sometimes 3 shows a day. They never slept so that must have been a strain on Elvis. He had his film career and i can only imagine he would never sleep and then the Vegas years doing a dinner show and a midnight show for days on end. No HUMAN can keep that up for weeks on end. He WAS WORN OUT BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY and looking back in hindsight we could all say - we could have helped him but that was not ELVIS He just loved going out on stage entertaining the fans TO THE END and OH YES RIGHT TO THE END. I cannot think of anyone before, then or since that was so COMITTED TO DO THIS.

That was very insightful. I, along with any people were believing what the newspapers said that Elvis was on uppers and downers. I'm glad this man straightened it out.

I saw Elvis in Las Vegas. I think it was 1975. He called for the spotlight to be turned off. He was quite vehement about it. Now I know why. His eyes were hurting from the bright light. When he asked the spotlight to be turned off it didn't happen right away. What happened then was interesting - audience members started shouting "turn off the spotlight." It was finally turned off. Elvis gave another great performance, as always. Charlie forgot to mention the insomnia that he was also medicating for.

Damn, listening to Charlie is so sad. He loved Elvis. He is trying to validate Elvis’ addiction so hard in this video. Denial is no joke.

His mother who he adored died ,he had bad management and few close friends the rest took advantage of him .I think that had a lot to do about his additions which led to poor health .However he was my favorite since 1956 and i still listen to his songs especially his old ones .
