I'm a beginner at camping and looking for an affordable tent, for me this tent really attracts me not only the price but also the weight. Thank you for the great review. Subbed.👍
For the weight it looks like a really good tent, impressed it handled the wind so well, plenty of space and nicely thought out, I agree with you it might benefit from a pull out at the head end. For the price really good, nice review. Paul
Do like the look of it and the colour not too much of an issue for myself. As you say though a few guypoints missing that had put me off when I first seen ti come to market, such as one at the head end. Also a couple of loops ta the top corners where the trekking poles sit would be good so you could add extra lines there as well for rigidity in bad weather. Apprecait that Decathlon do wind test however much like Robens also do, whenever I have ever asked if they can show / provide actually footage of the testing I never get a reply. Would be good if manufacturers who do take the time to do a thorough wind test would add the footage to there websites as it would give confidence to people looking to purchase. But overall great review and as you say it looks a great offering at a good price.
Thanks buddy. Agree about the testing. I've seen the nordisk video wind tests but these would be good to see. And yes you can't get enough guy out points. I'm looking at modding the end so I can guy it out further for more interior space.
Before I commented on the chair, I came to look at this as wanted to see if you fit in it (I'm 6'3) and looks absolutely fine. I'm about to order the all white version as I personally think it looks brilliant. I'm a big fan of Decathlon, especially Forclaz gear (I live in Spain and Decathlon are everywhere here) and I'm glad more wild campers are reviewing and using their gear as personally I think it stands up against tents and gear 4, 5 6 times the price! I wish they did a 4 season inner for this, as it would then be my go to winter tent for the Pyrenees, as well perhaps 3000 hh instead of 2000, but they are only small gripes. Thanks for a solid look at it, especially the length as now i know i will definitely fit in it. Have you been out much in it? Held up well? Finally, if you didn't want to take an extra pole for the attach a guy line for the end, to lift it higher (Made a massive difference!) a solid stick should do the job. Thanks again, subbed.
Thanks buddy. I haven't been out in it since as I've had so many tents sent to me to test and others I've bought that it's hard to get out twice in the same one but I will be using it again in the summer. I generally camp on Dartmoor and there are absolutely zero sticks around as very sparse woodland areas where you're not actually allowed to camp but in other places that is what I would use as my carbon pole isnt the best for it due to being so smooth. Cheers for the sub 👍
Looks great, apart from the colour! If they can make the floor orange, I don't think adding some colour to the flysheet is going to do too much extra damage to the environment. They won't sell as many with it being white. Sounds a bit crisp packety though. Also too much mesh in the inner for UK conditions, except the conditions you were testing it in of course 😂 Thanks for reviewing.
I have the forclaz trek 500 and i love it. Its the only tent i havent sold after a couple of years and i doubt i will. That tent looks perfect for my bikepacking trips. Cheers mike.
Its only a little bit paler in colour than the Durston X-Mid 2 or the ZPacks Duplex but at less than a quarter of the price. Shows you can never make everyone happy at the same time even if you’re giving away free gold.
Wow, there's more information in the first 3 minutes of this than there is in the whole Collins dictionary! hahaha Personally I can't do white tents. In my opinion they just don't look good, except for maybe the MSR or maybe in a snow camp. Would be interesting to see how it looks in a few months time regarding stains etc. Its a nice shape to be fair but that or lack of
Cheer gez. Its a great tent ti be honest and their rationale behind the colour is ti reduce their manufacturing co2 emissions which is dramatically reduced by not dying them. They are doing a special range to be more economic friendly. Could always dye it I suppose 🤷🏼♂️👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Yeah I totally get their thinking and it is commendable but everywhere I camp is sadly illegal and I think it would bring too much paranoia for me. I'm sure loads of people will like it as it does seem like a decent tent to be fair
@@NoviceWildCamper Im like you (tall) lanshan should serve me well, just would be good to have somthing a smigde better in the wind and i can sit up in for a reasonable price 🤣
I have this tent and I really like the toggle on the guidelines 😂 so much so that I ordered a bunch of toggles from Amazon so I could modify other tents. I'm not sure if this will work but wildskygear has adhesive guidelines anchors and patches with buckles (assuming you can stick them to mesh and put something on the inside to stop it sticking to the floor when packed 😄). However they don't attach to silicon coated fabrics and I'm not sure if the flysheet is silicon coated from decathlons description or if it's just the groundsheet.
I really don't think you can beat decathlon for quality at an affordable price, I should be sponsored by them from the ultralight 2 person tent , inflatable pad, bushcraft knife etc . Good review I've been looking at this one, don't tell the wife.
😂🤫 mums the word. Yes they do make some good gear for the price that's for sure. I've had quite a bit myself. Pad, trousers, down jacket etc. Decent stuff 👍
I like decathlon tents, i used to Have the Trek 500 but it was a bit heavy but the attention to details is very good..shame they cant change the colour but it certainly is on my radar
They're currently trying to reduce their co2 emissions when making equipment and have made a range of white products, tents, mats sleeping bags etc and it had made a big difference to their co2 output so its a good thing really but yeah white isn't exactly stealthy but I suppose you could dye it yourself 🤷🏼♂️👍
Does it fit you lengthwise with the pillow, the mat and the sleeping bag? I'm 195cm tall and kinda looking for a tent that fits me. Do you have any other suggestions, perhaps freestanding or semi-freestanding option?
Hi. I'm 192cm and had no issues even with the pad and a pillow. You should be ok bjt its difficult when you are our heights. In regard to other tents thst would fit you, it's going to depend on budget. Scarp 1 would suit, Nortent Vern 1 or for super budget buy not really lightweight the Regatta Montegra 2. I paid £75 and its huge inside. 245cm long. Or if you can get hold of one the lightwave v2. 👍
@djijomurdjevic I also have the Lanshan 1 plus. The larger version not to be confused with the pro. I literally just fit in that. May be too much of a squeeze for you. The Regatta is the best for budget though but not the lightest. If you can put up with the lanshan 2 pro single skin then youd have plenty of room. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Just found out about Robens Chaser tent, there are 1, 2 and 3p versions. No decent reviews of them, but it seems like it would work for tall people since its design isn't cutting space inside like Lanshan does.
Hi mate. Now you have owned this tent a while would you srill recommend it? How bad wind and rain have you actually used it in? Thanks and great review
Hi. I've only used it the once. Struggling as I get a lot of tents sent to me and other gear to review and test. I would however use this over say a Lanshan as it would definitely hold up to worse weather particularly the 2p version. I will be trying to get it out again thus year but habe also just had another tent sent me to review and another on the way 🙄 tough life 😂 honestly it's hard sometimes just to get out and enjoy it without worrying about videos
@Novice Wild Camper haha its a hard life. Im after a decent 2 man outer pitch first tent reasonably light weight so trekking pole tent is a possibility. Just not sure if it would stand up to the wind on a mountain camp. Was out in unexpected 40mph winds the other week. Keep up the good work and get some camps in for yourself
You could use carbon poles. Check my lanshan videos. I always use a carbon pole where you should use a trekking pole (but I also add trekking poles at the ends for extra length for me but not needed if you're under 6'4) just be careful with the pole end, make sure you add a pole mushroom to the top to stop the pole bursting through.
What a good looking tent! If only they did it in green or brown, with a guy out at head end it would be on my shopping list for sure. Hats off to you for reviewing in that heat by the way! ATB
Cheers Jason. Yeah I knkw what you mean about the colour but they're diung this eco programme and reducing their co2 percentages massively by not dying some tents. Good on them really but u suppose you could dye it yourself 🤷🏼♂️ I'm looking into a way round of adding another guy out point at the head end. Will update if I succeed. 👍
Hi mate. Are you planning any more trips in this tent? I've got cloud peak 2 which I've modded and love it but heavy when I take walking poles as well. I love Decathlon... slight obsession to be fair and I know their stuff is quality so makes me lean towards this instead of lanshan 2 Love that they have wind tested to 40mph so should stand up go the cheviots.
Yeah I get sent a lot but only test stuff thats relevant or I think is decent. Or I want people to know its awful and not to buy 😂 this is one of the few I've bought myself as I just loved the look of it. I will definitely be taking it out again though. Maybe in the spring. 👍
aup mate. loved the video and i'm wondering if you've tested it out more thoroughly in bad weather conditions as i tend to camp out as high up in wales and the lakes as i can? i'm debating whether to get this or the lanshan you see but i'd like to save money if i can.
Not tested it out personally but it's been mountain tested by decathlon so should be fine. The lanshan is a good tent but I dont think it's as good as this for bad weather. Are you looking at the 1 or 2?
@@NoviceWildCamper i was looking at the lanshan 2 as i like to have more room. I think i might just go for this one then to be honest as i am quite paranoid about being caught out on top of a mountain. Cheers for the respone o7
No probs. I don't think the 2 is as good as the 1 in performance with high winds although better to be stuck inside in poor weather with the space advantage but the decathlon would be the same but sturdier. Only downside is the colour if you want to be stealthy.
@@NoviceWildCamper somehow i dont think anyone is going to trek up the side of a mountain to tell me to shift off in the middle of the night so the colour wont be an issue haha. i've also got an msr elixir for those scenarios where i'm closer to civilisation.
I wonder if you could use a safety pin or 2 pinned to the head area of the mesh (just above the orange part) and a guy line to them and take a line out under the flysheet to pull the mesh out a little bit? A bit of a bodge but might just work.
Thanks. Yes it is so it helps with thier emissions in production, lowering their average carbon footprint as dying causes a lot of Co2 emissions and pollutes water.
@@NoviceWildCamper just a thought - maybe add a couple of hashtags to the video with the tent name; it’s not coming up in RU-vid search ‘decathlon tarp tent’, and it is one of the better reviews on this tent. ATB
Nice tent especially because its a trekking pole tent, lightweigh, roomy and cheap, decathlon are a quality brand now, great review, u need to tell me abour rhese tents before buyinf silly expensive ones haha 👍👍
Nice review! Decent weight for a double skin tent, looks like it has plenty of room compared to my old Banshee 200, and a decent price. Only thing I don't like is the colour! 😁
@@NoviceWildCamper Yes, hats off to them for that, and of course most of their customer base isn't in the UK. Just a shame most of us in this country have to hide away like criminals! ☹️
So is it better or worse than a lanshan 2. If I wanted to do a west highland way or Hibernian way in mild winter which would I get? Lanshan appears to be lighter and more waterproof but the other one is proof test for wind?
There's been a few Lanshans tear in the wind. It would be good to test this out in higher winds but I've just not had the chance yet. Personally I'd go with a Lanshan 1 as its more storm worthy and has had no issues tearing in wind that I'm aware of although I'd recommend getting the z packs door clips. Can get them in the uk now. 👍
Hi, don't know if you're still responding to these videos, but I liked the review. I was wondering how tall you are? Because I'm looking for a tent myself and being 202cm this is quite tricky. I just started hiking with my girlfriend and whilst being new we are a bit hesitant on spending a lot on a spacious (lightweight) tent. I don't know either if hiking poles are a good match, but we are open for it. We probably will be doing some consessions on a tent anyway... 😅. Have you got any tips for us that might come close to our needs in the search for a tent? Thank you!
Ok, yes that's difficult at your height. Have you considered a teepee style tent? If you look st some of my first videos I used a onetigris smokey hut. This is 3.2m across all angles and an inner is I think is 285cm long. Obviously it tapers so would depend how tall your partner is to get next to you but have a look. The total weight with inner and pole is less than 1.8kg which is not a lot for such a large tent plus you can even sit on a chair in the vestibule area in bad weather.
Well, now I have a problem, which one to choose? I'm thinking about Tarp Tent MT 900 and Collinsoutdoors Journey 2 and can't decide. Which one is better in windy weather, which is more spacious? Which needs less work to set it up? So many questions...
Tough one. I think the tarp rent is more spacious and easier to put up. In the wind both about the same. Have you considered the collinsoutdoors castle two? Even mkre spacious and better in the wind than both. Outer pitch first but you can get your gear in them and put the inner up. I did a video on that here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6RFbN34b9qY.html
@@NoviceWildCamper yes, I watched your video about Castle 2, but it I think it's too big for me, I need more space to set it up then other two. It needs more windropes. I'm camping often on rock's or a frozen ground or snow so difference between puting 6, 8 or 18 pegs is important for me.
A lot of tents stand out like a sore thumb. Look at any red hilleberg and they seem to be pretty popular. In regard to sound, it's no different from any other tent I've tried. Better than Cuban fibre for sure. And in regard to 3 season, it's been tested on a rotating plate wind tunnel up to force 7 gale and on the alps by professionals. Not sure why you think that wouldn't be good enough for the uk? Maybe you should try it before making comments like this. 🤷🏼♂️ I'm here to review gear to aid those looking. If it was as bad as you're making out I'd have said.
I've just ordered one of these and I was very disappointed. There was a fault on one of the slots where you attach the short poles. One was sewn approx 2cm shorter than the other one making it impossible to fit the pole in. Also the general workmanship doesn't look very good to me, numerous messy stitches etc.
@@NoviceWildCamper I will be returning it on Monday. Maybe I got the new apprentice making mine. Im usually very impressed with Decathlon gear and I'm surprised that this was so shoddy.
Looks well thought out tent , lots of good specs , if they pushed it to double siliconised would have been bang on as would be silpoly very rare at this price point and the near gale force wind rating is most impressive, top review 👍 Still love my Lanshan Pro 2 more 🤣🤣
