Oliver Ford Davies (Father Barnes) is another solid veteran of UK Theater. I never see him in anything else (he’s always noticeable as a clergyman) without flashback to this role for him. A priceless face: the face of late 20th-century religious doubt - a theme which James constantly revisits. The author was an genius
I’ve loved spotting Patsy Byrne (Millicent Gentle in this production) since my first memory of her in I, Claudius. She always has aim intriguing role. In Claudius she plays a supplier of poisons to Livia - herself an accomplished poisoner… ah, the memories of les neiges d’antan!
PD James as always delivers an intelligent gripping story which holds your attention to the end without the usual gore and blood which we usually have on screen

Why do the British feel the need to be self-righteous and holier-than-thou with the police. Few countries has a police force as mild and reasonable as their police force. Most of us have to put up with much tougher police, and do not nearly as many rights as the British people vis-à-vis the police. Yet you have these laughable situations where a policeman, quite politely, asks if her can look around the house, to be met by a reply by someone brimming with self-righteousness and accusing the system of being a police state. In most countries, the police have the right to search without a warrant. If you don't like your police, by all means give them to us. We'll welcome them with open arms, and be delighted with their politeness and gentleness. And we certainly wouldn't treat them with the rudeness and intolerance which seems to be the norm in Britain.
Why do you think it's the norm? Because of television programmes? Still, it is true the British don't like being questioned, nor anyone pulling rank. And the police are not all sweetness and light: ask anyone with a darkish complexion.
Because in England we are brought up to feel that we are innocent until proven guilty, not just an abstract. Also, the English are/were very private, 'an English man's home is his castle '. It's a very important principle. But it's not unique to us, I know other nationalities that consider there home as inviolate. Why do you think that we should be different?
There is not much point in posting an incomplete serial to RU-vid. Why is just Episode 5 missing ? About 150 minutes of viewing come up against a big gap of 50 minutes. Take the whole lot down if you cannot do any better.
Oh now we've got an interesting cliff hanger going on! I didn't expect the young lady's suicide and I would not be surprised if it turned out to be murder the way this story is going
