An epic journey begins as Petra of the Steadfast pack finds herself alone in an unfamiliar land after being separated from her mate and pups in a blizzard. With her second litter on the way, Petra must seek help from a mysterious loner if she and her children are to survive. But the land itself is filled with secrets, as is her new ally, and Petra will have to adapt to a new area, new enemies, and even new prey-- and the surprising bounty she finds may bring with it an untold danger...

i can actually respect the ranchers here. they try a WHOLE lot of other methods of getting rid of you before resorting to using a gun to shoot you. it IS their livestock we're killing but i can respect them for only wanting to kill the wolf as a last resort. a much better narrative i must say.

Yeah, the WolfQuest team honestly did a superb job when it comes to conveying the nuance of a human/animal conflict such as what happens here, and I really respect them for it. It shows both that there are options that won't be harmful (such as scary movement or loud sounds that an animal would struggle to understand), but also acknowledges that when an animal that persists in causing harm to humans, something must be done to resolve the conflict. Other than relocating the animal (which wouldn't really be viable to portray in a game like this), there does come a point when the conflict must be resolved by force-- but ideally we do everything possible _before_ getting to that point. And, because a lot of players _will_ be determined to keep pushing their luck at the ranch, it does make you stop and think about how challenging a conflict like this can be in real life!

@@LilyLils460 i mean they technically are already. this is a game about wolves though so the devs won't want to make it too human-centered. also, like jay says about the devs wanting to promote more positive human/wolf interactions where shooting isn't the first priority... which is how the original yellowstone wolves died out and they had to reintroduce grey wolves from canada so i highly doubt they'll want to promote violence and shooting and poachers in their game. it goes against what the game is supposed to be about... plus if humans acted as preds we'd probably and some point have to attack them which would make the game more age restricted for the violence.

Seeing how close Loki was to dying made me think of one of my mates. Her name was Sabine, a bear had come to the den and she went right after it. She ended up dying and I got a new achievement. I have a written story about the whole thing. Maybe I’ll post it

I think posting it is a great idea. I've had the same thing happen to me on one of my playthroughs. My wolf had lost her previous mate after 2 litters, and then she found a second mate. Then on their first year together, he got stuck in between our rock den and the bear, so he couldn't escape after saving a pup that had come out and he died. Twas tragic.

I'm so glad your channel was recommended to me. after jessimew left, there's been hardly any WQ 3 stories that actually take some creative liberties, instead of just sticking to the game mechanics.

A little story (Spoilers) Petra trended back home, immediately ushering the pups into cover. Loki adverted his gaze to Petra and wagged his tail. Petra looked dismayed towards the young wolf and said “I have nothing…I’m sorry.” Loki’s eyes drooped to his paws. “It’s fine, I wasn’t even that hungry…you need to talk?” Petra nodded briefly. “Its about the ranch. There is something off and scary about that place. Something other than the dogs is protecting the livestock. It wants to cows, but doesn’t want to eat them like we do.” Loki looked back to his caretaker, eyes solemn. “The rancher you mean? He’s merciless.” He shuffled his eyes away. “He gives us chances to escape for sometimes…but afterward he shows no mercy.” Petra gazed still at the sorrow pup. “What happened…I know something happened. Please, don’t keep secrets from me.” Loki whimpered before narrowing his icy eyes to Petra. “My mother, being loyal yet adored to the rancher, wanted to show her my dad. He being a wolf, she found it interesting, and she wanted to show how nice he could be.” Loki bit his chaps. Petra looked more expectantly to the pup. “He was shot. We were in a bush nearby, told to wait. We could hear that noise from miles away. Our mother ran back to us all bloody and sorrow. We left the ranch, but only came to hunt again. When my mother surrendered to the rancher and killed, me and my siblings tried our very best to hunt more there.” Petra shuffled her paws. How could this happen and Loki still be his cheerful self? “They died one by one. I was the only one left. The dogs knew how much I had lost and let me steal calves every now and then, but after awhile they were merciless as well. I ran away and found you…that’s a gunshot, Petra. They kill, they’re faster than mule deer. I only traveled with you to protect you. I always tried talking to the dogs, but they more merciless every time. That’s why I almost froze when that first gunshot came. Im so sorry, Petra.” He lowered his neck, whimpering. Tears ran down his cheeks. “Oh, Loki…” Petra cried and wrapped her neck around her pup. Her son…
