Jeep really needs to develop some new motors. If they're trying to do luxury, they need a turbo V6 and turbo V8 as engine options. Faster, more efficient engine options. This engine was in the Chrysler 200, for crying out loud.
@2010challengerRT
@2010challengerRT 2 года назад
No it wasn't. The 200 had the previous version of the 3.6L. This has the Pentastar upgrade. Or the ancient Hemi (Which I love). But anyway, I do agree they're a bit lazy and falling behind on engines. Hopefully that rumored 3.0L Inline 6 turbo happens sooner than later.
@shanet7511
@shanet7511 2 года назад
Atleast these motors have had most of the bugs worked out and aren't as complex as many of the "luxury" car motors.
@jefferybaxter1225
@jefferybaxter1225 2 года назад
Between the 3.6 liter V6 and the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine I would choose the V8. At the same time the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 isn't too old. Some of the competitors for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L either regular or luxury competitors have been using the same engine for a longer period. Take for instance the Acura MDX. That 3.5 liter V6 has been in that vehicle since the first generation in 2001. What Jeep should've done was to increase the horsepower and torque numbers just a pinch for the V6 to an even 300 horsepower and the pound feet of torque to 270 or 275. I assume there wasn't an increase in performance numbers due to the fact that sometime last year in 2020 new emission guidelines took effect. I think that could be the reason for no increase in the performance numbers, but I'm not 100% sure. That thought came to mind because in general, new generation vehicles that came out last year or this year regardless of automaker didn't get any increase in performance numbers over the previous generation.
@2steaksandwiches665
@2steaksandwiches665 2 года назад
Jeep has always used ancient motors. My mothers 1995 Jeep grand Cherokee had the ancient 4l straight 6 from the ancient AMC pacer type vehicles. That thing was not refined but it was bulletproof.
@mikehenkes
@mikehenkes 2 года назад
Why when electrification is next? Why invest the RND in new V6 and V8 motors when there is a new 4 Turbo, EV, and a new I6 in the pipeline... PS: The Korean twins this thing competes with only has a V6 that is equal on paper and not as bullet proof.
@G-Force_70

Nice, needed an update but the premium powertrain should be a turbocharged Pentastar producing similar numbers to the 5.7. Would only need a single turbo.

They should move the Durango to the new platform and also give Dodge a version of the regular Grand Cherokee, give if different front and rear styling and call it something else (idk Nitro maybe). Also update the V6 and V8 with direct injection and aluminum blocks for the Hemi, that should increase the 5.7L power to at least 400Hp and drop a few pounds from the front end of the vehicle, making it nimbler, faster and more fuel efficient.
@bradnimbus4836
@bradnimbus4836 2 года назад
The 5.7 has been capable of 400hp for awhile now. It's just detuned in this model. An aluminum block would be cool but I can imagine it'd be pricy
@shanet7511
@shanet7511 2 года назад
Ip wouldn't be worth the added cost to go aluminum. They'd have to retool their factories, make new parts, redesign others all for a maybe a hundred pounds? No. Not too mention aluminum doesn't deal with the heat from towing as well as the iron blocks, these engines are used mostly in their trucks and suvs.

I think that`s a huge opportunity missed by Jeep. It`s a really pretty truck with a nice interior upgrade. I currently have a 2020 Limited with the 3.6. It`a commuter car and I bought it cause it was cheap. The engine is a turd. Bad gas mileage, noisy and unrefined. I was getting really excited about the new one but if I have to spend around 65 K US to get a decent (decent, nowhere near great) engine, I rather buy a GLE 450.
