Got the car keys off my dad in time - just. My bro in law didn't get the car keys off his dad in time. Backed the care out of the drive and right into the front wall across the road. Didn't get a scratch but caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. The stakes are much higher here. The global order is less stable than it has been in decades. Either a crazy president (Trump) or a more obviously demented one (Joe) would encourage a whole bunch of countries to push the boundaries even harder than they have been.

He hinted at it once or twice but never said it. Something like he might consider it that's as close as he came in I believe.

When my father had dementia he was in denial in the early stages, very strong denial. He would fly into a rage at the suggestion that he couldn't or shouldn't do certain things anymore like driving a car. It took several incidents, including him getting lost in the car park of his own apartment block for him to finally accept that he needed any kind of help. The angry/stubborn phase can be dangerous.

The rate of decline, and the severity varies widely with the aged. Your experience with your father only gives you insight into one individual. My father's decline was noticeable to me when he was 80, but he was able to live alone and look after himself until 93 when he died of pneumonia.

@@Rascallucci Seems like if they got Biden out early and Kamala became president, she might gain some dignity in response to the demands of the office -- stifling some the criticism that she receives now which basically paints her as an unstable airhead. Also, if she because the nominee, she would (as I understand it) appear on the November ballot as "President" Harris, giving her, in a sense, a home field advantage and a vote bump that is not reflected in current polls.

The issue is that his generation (the "quiet generation") are almost to a person convinced that they are the only ones who can be in charge as they can't trust anyone else to get the job done, in their minds. Their trust of anyone younger than they are ( largely because they saw what fools the Boomers were, so not entirely their fault ) is effectively zero. So, unfortunately, he won't drop out unless he has a literal intervention with everyone present in the Oval Office.

The republicans don't care if he lies, they will vote red no matter what. On the other hand lots of democrats don't seem to be voting blue no matter who, Biden is historically unpopular. I think most reasonable people felt that Joe passed the “tipping point” some time last year, but they were looking at the calendar and the competition and just decided to cross their fingers and hope for the best. The debate pretty much destroyed that strategy and now those same reasonable people can’t just wing it anymore. We need a replacement at this point because even though there’s no guarantee the new person will beat Trump, it IS guaranteed that Biden will lose against Trump.

As a European scared about the march of the extreme right, I've been watching you on Biden for months and have to say, you were right all along. Though I wanted to believe you might be negatively overstating the polling numbers, as a carer for a family member with dementia, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach that Biden was showing more and more signs of age related decline. The debate was key, as you said it would be. Swing voters had to to be convinced he was ok and he convinced them, (and me) of the opposite. Thanks for shouting loud and hard for long enough to get through to those too scared of reality to face the facts. Your country has never been in more danger than it is at this election. Nothing is gained by hiding heads in the sand however. Good luck USA in sorting this mess out. It can be done, but time is short. People like Cenk are a like an old ship's barrelman up in the crows nest, spoting problems up ahead. You're invaluable and you're good at it.

4:10 I'm a physical therapist who works with the elderly and he doesn't appear to have any signs of parkinsons physically.... alzheimers which imo is much worse on the other hand he has TONS of symptoms and not even really early ones at this point. sundowning and poor memory are usually the biggest early to mid stage symptoms. My patients with alzheimers are the most difficult to work with. he needs to drop out and enjoy the time he has left to remember the people he cares about. typically the brain dies much faster than the body in these cases. can't imagine the stress is doing him much good.

I barely see it as worth preserving. When was this country wonderful? Dont compare. Just tell me when it was wonderful.

@@chrisruiz612 l definitely don’t feel victimized. Anyone can have a good life here. I too am blessed. I see us as a very greedy destructive Nation though. Uneducated and short lived. We could make many things so much better but l dont believe for a minute that we will. I dont want a destructive revolution. I just see very little worth preserving as a society.

People born in the 40s should not have any kind of role that involves serious responsibilities. We are only 16 years away from the next 40s.

@@mvrk4044 We should elect people who still have a vested interest in the future. Someone on their proverbial deathbed doesn't have any vested interest in the future of the country. Get someone in their 40's or 30's in there.

⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠@@dandotvid imagine believing that age is a factor of electability as opposed to mental acuity. Biden doesn’t have the mental acuity which is why he has to go, not solely because he’s 81. Also saying old people don’t care about the future or interest is pure speculation which, I’d argue, is largely untrue. It’s the democratic party’s fault for not enacting in democracy aka the primary election
