Let me tell you all something: I'm a 43y/o woman who grew up being a Tom boy. I cried a river when I got my period 😭 I didn't want them as it meant I had to become a "proper girl". My mom had to force me to wear a bra. I hated EVERYTHING about being a girl. My sister like spending time with my mum cooking and chatting. I just wanted to be out with the boys, jumping off trees and doing burping competitions! But guess what? I'm a woman. There's nothing wrong with thinking differently, dressing differently or playing differently. Do not let anyone is this social media age telling you otherwise. Its okay to let time do its thing. Be true to yourself, your path and your story. No one else's!
@Elmocello

Happy for you, genuinely. However you say this in a way that comes across as your story or journey is the only way it can go. I don't know if you meant to come across that way but if you did then I can tell you it's not true. Of course there are many reasons a cis person, especially girls/women, would feel resistance or fear of their development when this society does not make this world safe for them. But to assume that's the case with everyone and that no true trans people exist is ignorant. Being true to myself meant transitioning. With transitioning a lot of my anxiety and depression went away and a general peace of being more aligned was found. I often catch myself thinking "wow is this what non - trans people experience all the time and I'm only feeling it at 22+". So yeah. One story is not everyone's story. People need to take their time for sure and seek therapy when feeling unsure about their gender so they can clarify what's really the root cause. My therapist denied transitioning to women who just had internalized misogyny or just believed it would be easier for them to be men due to their attraction to women. True professionals know the difference.
@ScurvyRascal

@@Elmocello My message was take your time. I never felt any fear about the meaning of womanhood. I just didn't think I was one. I thought some mistake was made somewhere during my time in gestation! I'm straight too, by the way. This is my story and I'm not telling you or anyone else that they're not really Trans. I'm telling you that had I grown up in this day and age, I would have definitely considered transitioning. And it would have been a mistake. I'm not sure why you felt like I was telling people that my way is the only way it can go? I thought I was clearly expressing that it *can* go that way since I'm a real person and it happened like that for *me*. My story, if it helps anyone out there.

@@bsrfuchs55 I was 31. I had my daughter at 28 and it was the most difficult time of my life. I became very depressed during my pregnancy. I just couldn't believe it was happening to me. I kept her because I couldn't come with any valid reason to abort. I was too embarrassed about my feelings. It was very hard too when she was born but breastfeeding somehow gave me some mental peace. I could justify the breasts, you see - they were a tool and I could get my head around that. The clincher was seeing myself in the mirror she 31 after coming out of the shower. My body had changed. My hips were wider. I looked developed and actually, I thought it looked lovely! It was a weird experience but a very happy and soothing one, too. Being a tomboy, playing sports, enjoying the loose fit of men's clothes, being uncomfortable with our breasts after puberty...these are normal things that many females experience. I wish someone had made you think twice about things before you made irreversible decisions.
@casperryborg4869

To be honest, I think it is just too many parents failing their kids. It is their responsibility to guide the young people through life, teach them how the world works, and if a little girl or boy isn't told that they're fine just the way they are, it isn't too crazy of an idea for them to seek out a community that can "help" them with their "wrong" behavior. In my opinion, some parents today are too scared to tell their kids no, or to sit down and have uncomfortable conversations when needed. This will most likely turn around again, once the general person can see the damage it causes.
@shahmi94

I hope more people read your comment. My wife grew up as a tomboy since her family didnt have any male model (a very bad divorce) and she stepped up to fill the role. She did all the usual things you would expect from a boy/guy in the family would do, heavy house repairing, lifting heavy things, protecting her sisters. And instead of feeling she doesnt fit in as a female she sees herself as storng woman, and thats badass in its own way. Just because you fit in with the boys and plays all the boy's games, doesnt make you a boy and dive into the transition. Rethink about it, talk with people against you transitioning, see both side of the arguement first.

Bravo to you for *your* bravery, as well. The sex stereotypes put on us from birth, onward, especially as females, are so harmful. I'm glad you are questioning and challenging them. None of us perfectly fit the stereotypes for our sex, because they're patriarchal social constructs. I had a wonderful feminist biology prof in 1980, who I think was lesbian. She was a great early role model for me, in my first semester of college. She told us "feminine" for any particular species means "any characteristic that the female animal is capable of." She said for women and girls that means being good at science, math, sports; being violent, being domestic, etc. Ditto for males. That was a liberating message for me. I hope you will continue finding the bravery to share your insights far and wide. You will help a lot of people.

@@dra2033 I'd like to congratulate you for questioning and seeing through these medicalization practices. I can understand feeling foolish, but there has been almost no information available, particularly to youth or young adults, questioning or criticizing all of this. This has been completely irresponsible and unethical on the part of doctors, journalists, news outlets, universities, government, activists, the FDA, and medical organizations. If they haven't been able to see through all of this nonsense and make more ethical decisions, how can young people be expected to see through it all, when not given the information and perspectives that adults have had at hand, or should have sought out as part of their professional responsibilities. When I was growing up in the 1970s, there were tons of articles, newscasts, and conversations about the problems with sex roles, and how everyone should feel welcome to reject sex role pressures. We don't hear that today. And all of this gender identity ideology is being pushed in schools, government, and especially on social media. So I hope you can keep this in mind when you are feeling critical of yourself, and balance those thoughts and feelings with compassion for yourself, as well. The adults and professionals in the room were not behaving as adults and professionals, and that's their fault. So bravo to you for seeing through all of this, when still very few people are, and support is only beginning to show. You are ahead of the curve, and brave to speak up. I look forward to detransitioners suing the heck out of all those unethical "professionals," to put a stop to this.

@INTHELIFE we live in a time where we're stacking on labels on labels on labels. INCLUDING tons of "nuerodivergents" aka mental disorders. The reason this is problematic is because it's impossible. Even if someone may not have an exact label for themselves, they can still choose a label they fall closest under to identify themselves. This dosent mean that you have to choose a label, but people act like most straight and cis people weren't the ones to originally shove labels upon us.... now that we create, are proud of, or are alright with our own labels, labels are suddenly bad...? They're just ways to describe an "aspect" of ourselves, a part of who we are. If someone weaponizes it to do a "us vs. them" sort of thing, or intentionally used it to divide, that's on them.

Another issue is that, in the west, we think we need to be happy ALL OF THE TIME. But that is not only impossible, it's unhealthy. Sometimes we need to deal with harsh truths, even if they hurt. We may not be able to control the outside world but we can control how we react to it. Instead of expecting something external to just magically make us feel good again, why not learn and grow from these experiences and adapt that newfound wisdom into your life so when something else comes along and makes you miserable, then you will be stronger to face it.

I think a number of detransitioners were just gender nonconforming with some body dysmorphia. They then got swept up in this idea that they were fully trans. I personally convinced myself I was trans and sometimes still think about aspects of being ftm. As a child I insisted on being called Joey and that I was a boy. I convinced my mom to take me to get a short haircut. I ended up with a bowl cut ✂️ because it was 1997 when I was 5. As an adult back in 2015 I was in a same sex relationship and started having those intense feels of potentially being trans again. I bought a freeToM packer and everything. Thankfully I had a partner who convinced me not to transition. At the time it was hurtful because I felt like she was keeping me from what I thought I wanted and needed at the time. I definitely would have detransitioned and would be even more unhappy with my body. Thankfully after losing some weight I realize I just have body dysmorphia. I am also very much gender non conforming. In a way I feel like women should empower themselves to do the same things as men instead of feeling like we have to transition to do the same things. I felt like an unattractive woman for so long from being morbidly obese and dealing with pcos. I thought maybe as a man I would be more attractive, but as I'm getting healthier I'm realizing that I like my female body. Things are starting to take shape for me. I think I would have been mad if I caused voice changes from T because I am a singer. I could have ruined my singing voice. Also I deal with enough facial hairs that need to be plucked as a woman with pcos. I thought as a man a beard would be better, but I can't imagine now having to shave my face all of the time or deal with long hairs growing and tickling my lips... on my face. Anyway I don't know why I'm sharing so much, but I think a lot of women have been convinced that we have to be male to do certain things and our bodies have to be a certain way so some might be pushed more towards transitioning to fit a societal standard. I know that doesn't make much sense because society as a whole is unkind to LGBT individuals.

I’m a woman that has never had any of these thoughts or feelings and never thought about it until my grandson went back to school after the pandemic and had not gone through puberty yet and just wanted to play with friends. He was bullied relentlessly at school because he wouldn’t say he was trans or gay. This is elementary school. He asked me why things were normal before the pandemic and so gross or weird after. He had to get counseling and we pulled him out of the school he was in and now he’s thriving again because kids at his new school are just kids. Anyway, I want to understand and I have to say you are absolutely beautiful- now and you were beautiful before. Your inner beauty shines through. You have helped me so much with my anger and hurt for my grandson and my granddaughter- she went back to school and at 9 years old was telling us she was gay and went both ways. She had no clue what that meant. We pulled her out of that school and she is now a happy playing 9 year old at her new school. Please don't let these videos discourage you from transitioning. There is no rule that you have to physically change your body in anyway to be considered trans. Moreover, a good relationship with a therapist will help you decide what steps you want to take in your transition and what is right for you. I came out around the same time as the person in this video and back then there was only one real path to transition. You had to either transition into a man or woman. Today many therapists are a lot more familiar with non-binary people and that people who are not binary trans people exist and will want to take hormones or have surgery without ever fully transitioning into M or F.

It is a complex issue. As a gay male I can honestly say as a child I would have probably been very tempted to transition to be a trans female. However as an adult I don't care what people say if I wear makeup, act a little camp. I am a gay male with feminine traits. I have male traits also obviously. Transitioning is an option which feeds into trying to put the right peg with the correct box. Round peg square hole theory. Sometimes to be truly happy...it's to accept the peg you have been given and all its originality and realise no box is required. I have been in a long term relationship for many years with another gay male who is attracted to the male attributes I have. That wouldn't have been possible had I transitioned in a possible attempt to try and make sense of my younger brain and my female emotional intelligence. It's ok to be a butch female...or a Tom boy...it's ok to be a feminine male. It's ok to wear makeup...present how you like.the quicker you realise there are no rules for being your authentic self...the quicker you get to happiness and self acceptance. What I would say ..I have also experienced body dysmorphia esp when the male characteristics kicked in with puberty facially. If I had to live with such self hatred, it would have been unbearable. That phase did pass for me. Had it not ..that would have been hell. And for those who are in that, I totally understand going for the transition. Or for those who are catagorically sure they are in wrong gender then traision is a viable option. There is a place for transition and for some it is a really good thing. But for quite a few..they are not waiting to see how they think feel and are going down sometimes a irreversible road. Just try and be kind to yourself. There is only one of you on this planet.

Couldn't agree more. I'd add that there needs to be more done to assist young people struggling with gender issues. We can't be allowing children to make such huge life long changes. I'd even argue that it should be pushed off til the brain is fully developed. I'm almost 30 and how I feel today about myself is completely different to how I felt at 10, 20, and even 25. A lot of women are denied procedures to prevent child birth(tubes tied, abortion), usually due to younger age or marital status, or location. Why are we denied but they will chemically castrate children and permanently alter people?
@tarahhillson
@tarahhillson Год назад
Very well said. I'm a straight female now but in the 90s I experienced gender dysphoria and was confused about my sexuality for a while. I was a full on tomboy as a kid but went feminine as a teen to fit in. I hated makeup, fancy hair, skirts, dresses and heels. Most of all i hated boys hitting on me. I just wanted to be one of the guys and was interested in male things. By time I hit college I was trying to pass as male. Back then masculine females were assumed to be gay. I was attracted to men but the way my social group assumed and repeatedly questioned my sexuality made me question it. I explored same sex intimacy only to discover I am straight. I eventually grew out of my dysphoria and found a more androgynous way to present and that's where I found my peace. I stayed androgynous untill my early 30s. Been presenting female ever since. I think my dysphoria was more about rejecting the feminine and deterring sexual harassment. I never felt like I was in the wrong body but I was very confused about how to present myself and which category I needed to fit into. I went to extremes before I found comfort in my own skin. Life got pretty awesome as soon as that happened. I am so thankful I am not going through that under current conditions. In my opinion, categories are the problem. We need to stop putting people in boxes. We need to differentiate between true trans, trans trenders and people like me just going thru a phase of identity confusion before anyone goes under the knife.

@Karlie Gilbert I have to be honest..have never felt part of a community either. Have always felt like am outsider looking in on the gay alphabet. I am surrounded predominantly with family and colleagues, all of which are straight. My partner is quite straight in mannerisms.. I am more effeminate but fairly strict and staunch in my ways...almost paternalistic and have been told I act quite non flamboyant. This grouping all people that are anything but straight in this alphabet isn't very representative of the people actually out there In reality. Each of the letters are very different things with their own idiosyncrasies, which differ greatly. Spent my whole life educating those around me, and encouraging them to have a slightly more open mind and possess acceptance, towards a aspect of my character that is innate. The last few years have been so aggressive in its push forward...I think the progress of opinions on anyone differing from Straight, is now seen as a jumbled mess linked with attention seeking and fashionable genfer bending antics. Very unusual time to be anyone these days.

As a guy who considers himself to be more on the feminine side at least in my brain, I totally understand the blur of the binary. Detransition stories have a special place in my heart because just like me, people like this person look at how they're expected to be and they say "no. I have to do this my way." There is wonderful, beautiful, and amazing power in that. Androgyny is attractive and so many people fail to realize that they fall into that or they end up fighting against it in favor of the extremes. If gender is supposed to be this spectrum of expression, why are so many going from 1 side to the other? There's not nearly enough in the middle to spread the whole spectrum.

The only person you have to make happy in your journey is yourself. I don’t think we know who we are as a person until we get past the late 20s. I think me being excepting of who I am is learning about the qualities that I have that makes me human. I think self discovery in your 20s is an exciting time because you’re discovering who you are, what characteristics in your personality, what are your strong points and what do you want to do in your journey. There is so much outside influence that sometimes we can get confused who we are when were young. Sometimes our friends can influence us in a confusing way. Every human wants to belong. Sometimes we even change yourself because we want to feel more connected to the people around us. Then we realize that your characteristics are waiting to be discovered. Whatever you try choose to do enjoy your life. Do not worry about the trolls and their negativity. They’re miserable and they want everyone else around them to feel just as miserable. Discover who is positive around you while they are positive about you being yourself.

I think having a certain amount of time to go over these thoughts about wether or not you’re trans before going on HRT/reconstructive surgery is incredibly important. As for me I’ve been non-medically transitioning for about two years now, a lot of the stuff I arrived at on my own time (away from the experience of others). Regardless of that, I’ve seen some or the Nordic countries have a 6 month rule, where when the person has come out as trans legally they must wait 6 months, see a psychiatrist/therapist regularly before having the opportunity to medically transition. Anyways that’s just a piece of my mind. I hope the world can hit a nice equilibrium of peace and agreement at some point :)

Euphoria isn’t a sign of mental health. As a bipolar person I can attest to the fact that euphoria can be just as much a sign of severe illness as dysphoria. Being content, and calm, is what’s pointing to a person being healthy.

People need to realize that our bodies don't stop changing hormonally. We should encourage young people to hold on through puberty to make physical changes to their body until that process is as complete as it can be, at least 24 years old. We know that the "decision making/cause and effect" part of our brain development is not complete until we are 24....

"decision making/cause and effect" an identifying your gender are not the same thing. The latter is a mostly unconcions process that is fairly cenmented before puberty.

Per the d$m-5, they have a di$order. Not me mocking...this is text book. That said, why are people with this di$order allowed the privilage to be referred to as the opposite gender, yet when certain people (with certain diagnosi$ which I won't name) are experiencing what is known as psychosi$, they don't get the privilage of being referred to as objects, or super heros, or any other person they genuinely perceive themselves as?? Question of the decade! Let's not play games. It's a di$order, and should be treated as such, not pandered, not coddled. Every last one will regret transitioning in due time! I’m all for young people exploring different parts of themselves, including different ways to present themselves. It can not only be a means of personal growth, but also fun. But please, don’t have surgery. It’s irreversible & therefore too extreme as a means to explore who you are. Don’t rush. Wait. You may change your mind.

Hey my sibling is trans and I saw the entire transition and he had to go to several doctors and therapists and months of therapy before he could get on hormones and years before he had surgery de transitioning is rare and doesn’t happen a lot these actual trans kids need that so they can feel more comfortable in there body’s trans kids are only being hurt by transphobes not the surgery’s or hormones

@@revekat2053 If you're referring to the biological sex we're born as, I agree with you. (Gender is often used interchangeably with "sex," but most accurately refers to our socialization into sex roles based on our sex, ie. sex stereotypes.) If we all replaced the word "gender" with "sex roles," I think there'd be a lot less confusion and harm going on. Your thoughts?

Alia is a warrior! She’s helped me throughout my entire journey just by being transparent. I identify a lot with her story even the first relationship thing and hating my chest/ hanging with the boys. I’m also very fluid in my gender identity and don’t wanna label myself anymore either bc I get obsessive. I say detrans only in medical sense like getting off hormones and getting laser hair removal done like she states in the video. I’m Greek and middle eastern and the hair thing is 1000% what I went through too. You look beautiful Alia!

I was a tomboy in middle school and still am one bit but am more comfortable with my femininity. In middle school I didn’t like my chest and hated what was happening to my body due to puberty. My mom or anyone ever told me this was normal and the girls in school didn’t help either because they couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the change. That it was making them feel more grown up. After they started to wear makeup and tighter clothes. I was more masculine then them so I wore more baggy clothes and shopped in the guys section or wore unisex clothes. I felt uncomfortable with the woman clothing. The more I hated my body and my femininity the more I started to believe I was different. One day I searched up what I was feeling and I came across the term, transgender. The more research I did the more I started to believe I was trans. My parents are Christian’s and no matter how many times they say they don’t hate the lgbt I know they do, so I never asked them for help which meant I couldn’t ask them to take me to therapists who specialized in this to help me out. I told my friends that I might be trans and some supported me and some stopped talking to me. They supported me by calling me by my masculine name and one had even gotten me a binder. I’m so grateful for them supporting me. Later on in high school I started to reflect on everything and started to explore my femininity. I realized I loved everything. I felt good when I wore something that made me look like a woman. My mom would bring me down though during those times. She would always say “wow you’re actually trying to wear feminine clothing now” “you finally look like a girl” or she would give me a judgmental stare and when I would ask what’s wrong she would say nothing. I started to come to a realization that maybe I wasn’t transgender. Maybe I was actually feeling insecurities in being a woman than gender dysphoria. I feel stupid and regretful for not thinking more on it before I declared myself as transgender.

I'm happy for you that you didn't change everything so permanently that you couldn't mostly/fully detransition and/or at least except and live with after detransitioning. I pray for your peace and clarity moving forward and for all those who might think about transitioning in the future.
