In this video, I'm going to take you on a tour of the tiny historic city of Inverness, which is the capital of the Scottish Highlands.
A beautiful Scottish city that is just filled with charm, history and nature. We will visit some of the historic landmarks, including the castle and cathedral, and take a walk through the beautiful Ness Islands, which is just brimming with nature.
I will show you how I shop sustainably and visit my favourite local independent stores and second-hand/thrift stores. Stay tuned for the most gorgeous second-hand book store that has serious Harry Potter vibes!
I treat myself to the best vegan doughnut takeaway that I highly recommend and also mention other vegan places that are worth a visit.
More details in everything mentioned is featured below. Please do like and subscribe if you enjoy!

So glad I found your channel about life in Scotland! Scotland is one of my favourite places in the world, it's so beautiful, I feel emotionally drawn to it, don't know why and I always say I would move there without hesitation if I could just leave everything behind. I've visited only once in 2018 and did a lovely bus tour, just went through Inverness quickly, too. Edinburgh was my favourite, like walking through Hogwarts in real life😍🤩Love this insight into your Scottish home, love from Germany! :)

Brings back memories of my visit to Inverness in June of this year. Loved Leakeys and should have spent more time there but it's massive...and I preferred walking the Ness trail in the rain and wind. I was astounded at the size of the trees. Next time I'll have to check out Perks.

I wish I'd spent more time in Inverness, when my daughter and I were there; October 2019. We visited Culloden, rode a boat on Loch Ness, visited Urquhart Castle, and briefly shopped at Primark. I missed out on the bookstore. Would loved to have gone there. Admittedly, the weather was atrocious. Not really ideal conditions for a stroll. We stayed at Castle View Guesthouse and Eleanor was such a lovely hostess. I still occasionally day dream about the wonderful breakfast she provided and the cozy little dining room. Hopefully, I'll get back to Inverness before long and mabe the weather will be more co operative.

Loved seeing the countryside!! I grew up in Michigan USA, and I miss the woods, water and rainy days so much here in Arizona. I have your light coloring, so I have to stay indoors or use sunscreen most of the time. But I don't need to put on heavy coats or worry about icy walkways when I do go out, so I'll "bloom where I'm planted" for now. 🙂

Love all the old buildings! So much history! Here in Australia we don’t have many old buildings at all so it’s a real treat for me. My mothers family moved here from Yorkshire area in the 60’s and so this is all I know. Would love to visit England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales one day.

I live just outside Manchester on the edge of the Pennines and so waterproofs are my most important wardrobe staple. I am a huge fan of Paramo jackets and overtrousers, they are sustainable, effective and so soft and comfy to wear.

Well edited.. I was born in '63 and refuse to use the C word. I was born in the town of Inverness, and when I get on the bus I always ask for the town centre. I am earning my old fogey credentials. I will NEVER use the C---. word. On the second island along, just beside one of the two suspension bridges in a clearing, Is a small dog's cemetery. When I peg it, I want to be scattered on the Ness Islands, my ex scattered her dog's ashes there.. so it seems appropriate. Lovely video, well done!

This brought back so many wonderful memories of our 5 days in Inverness in October 2019. We used it as a base to go to St. Andrew's to visit a friend and also explore the surrounding areas. The islands and the whole of that area are so interesting and beautiful as we stayed near the Cathedral and I walked every day for an hour, just exploring. I wish I had known about Leakey's but luggage back to Australia might have been a problem. Kindred spirit on the book thing, I always buy a book from a charity shop and often return them or put them in a Free Street library. My husband found a history museum, The Groam Museum, about Celtic crosses in the area - amazing place. I had a pen friend I had been writing to for 10 years who lived in Newtonmore too, so we had a ball finally meeting. We would happily come back for longer. Thanks for the tour.

Is there enough to see and do in Inverness for a couple of days ? Over the past year and half, my wife and have had several short city breaks which have included London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, York and Liverpool, with three more repeat trips already planned for this year. I am trying to think of somewhere new to visit, for late in the year, or even early 2025, hence this question. I’m thinking about a 2 day trip to Inverness, then 2 in Aberdeen. Both have direct trains from Newcastle on LNER, a company we rate highly. Although my wife likes the shops, we both enjoy seeing new places of interest, such as museums, cathedrals etc.

Its in Inverness & hands down its a gem..my experience was about chilly nights. I needed a good pairing knife for all the meals I fresh prepared while sundering along peddling the way. In town is a father- son outdoor equipment shop par excelante. I didn't want to leave ! Great experience, top notch gear ranging from A-Z. This trip was during Sept- Oct..from the Lakes District to Sunderland..Sunderland to Inverness by train..beautiful! Arriving in the evening, & finding a campground just over the water..enjoyed Inverness for 2 days, then peddled west to catch a car ferry over to Skye. Have you roamed up the coast from Inverness to visit Scoraig ?

Hello. I am thinking about moving to Inverness (i play on doing some viewings next week) and was just looking for some advice on moving there, quality of living, what the people are like etc. I was looking for a flat in Glasgow, but then i realised i hated how much traffic etc there was there, so i decided to scrap that idea. Then i started looking on the Isle of Skye, but realised that at this stage in my life, i'm not quite ready to move to a small town. So Inverness seemed to me like a decent compromise between the two extremes- city living and country living, as it's close to lots of hikes etc, but is one tenth the size of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I live in California in the US (but I’m not American, my family immigrated from Mexico when I was a toddler) and for almost a year, I’ve been in a long distance relationship with someone who grew up and still lives in Inverness. We’ve been planning together for me to move up to Scotland and to get started (they understandably want to move out of their home town), we’d love to live in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and/or Aberdeen first. But it’s my dream to eventually own a home in the highlands once I get a career established. We’re both young, I’m just finishing up my bachelor’s degree in America and pursuing a postgraduate education in Scotland. It’s really exciting to me! I’m a big sunny southern softie so it’s definitely going to be tough but I’ve been wanting to move either to Canada or the UK for several years now, what with America being what it is (and what it always has been). Now I have the support from the love of my life and videos like this motivate me to dream big and work hard. Thank you, and much love!

Love your videos. Just happened to stumble across them. Could tell me about the background music that was played in this video? It sounds like "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" written in the late 1800's by 2 American gentlemen. Now I'm wondering if their tune was based on a Scottish song. Thanks!
@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564
@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 2 года назад
That's EXACTLY what I thought. I was raised in the Presbyterian church and that song is very familiar to me.
@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564
@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 2 года назад
I was intrigued enough by this to do a search which turns up the information that although Anthony J. Showalter is credited with writing Leaning On The Everlasting Arms, it was his nephew, Sam Duncan, who wrote the music. All it says about Sam is that he was a student at Bridgewater College in Virginia. Showalter was American. But Duncan is certainly a Scots name.
