I buy the SMALLEST light colored picks I can find.. and that DOES help me with a smoother strumming sound/ring you get it. Lol I’m using Ernie Ball for the passed 8 months or more, they last forever and they are obvious even tho they’re a fraction of the avg pick size. Hope this helps someone! 🤘✨
I swear I was better at strumming when I first started and now I've got it sounding ugh on up strums. Gotta try this - seeing the pick angle is helpful.
I find a lot of people hold the puck too tight. That’s fine for playing leads, but when strumming, find that sweet spot in your pick grip where you still get volume but you also have some feel. If you hold it too tight when strumming, you won’t have any feel or be able to emote the chords.
Sooooo helpful. Sooooo unconscious. Sooooo easy to fix. Sooooo good. ❤ I am wondering why you never taught us this tip before Mmmmm. Thank you. Sound improved dramatically on faster strumming patterns, funny that 😂.
Use the thinnest pick you can find. Yes, hitting the strings too hard is something that happens when you start out on the journey. I remember the day an intermediate guitarist told me to soften my strumming and to practice just brushing the strings. It's just more practice, honing your craft.
Why would one not use the nails it works perfect on the sensation on how much is the right pressure. Because The skin knows it before the sound reaches any ear 👂 Even self ear So yeah Nails matter Take care of them And try to be natural I can not upload my book here so just believe in your skin sometimes It will break but it will grow And also Be kind to the body and the skin To begin with Yes bro kind to yourself
Good point. We should question everything. Just about all the beginner guitar courses show using a pick. One's fingers seem more natural, plus there is that skin to sound connection. I will see how I like it. I don't want to "unlearn" a "bad habit" though. What are the arguments against using fingers?
It depends what chord(s) you are playing as to which ones you strum on the way down. Coming back up is a bit different, not many players hit all the strings on an up strum. You can make your up strums creative thru the song by hitting 1 or 2 or 3 strings, vary it. It give the song a bit more colour and variation.
