A Tour of Abraham Lincoln's New Salem 

oh, this makes me nostalgic. When I was in middle school and high school, I spent my summers at their summer camp (and later became a volunteer interpreter). Wearing 3 layers of heavy period-correct clothes does get pretty hot, but it's so fun if you're into history. I usually interpreted at the Berry-Lincoln stores, the cooper's shop, or the Sam Hill house, although I did enjoy working in the blacksmith shop or cooking in the tavern. There were some great folks who worked there, I loved coming back for the Candlelight walk because you'd meat volunteers who came for other seasons when you weren't there often.

I grew up near Decatur and my family visited New Salem at least once a year. Dad took home movies, and Rutledge Tavern was always one of our favorite places. If I lived closer, I'd love to help cook or sit with the lady and quilt with her. Thanks so much for putting together a great video. It brought back wonderful memories.
