Burnet is a small town in the Texas Hill Country, located about 50 miles northwest of Austin, Texas. The population is about 7,000 people, and they have a historic downtown square with a mix of restaurants and antiques and stores. The town is known as the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas and they hold a yearly bluebonnet festival that drew in 35,000 people. The history goes back to the 1850's with the railroad and then they were strong in farming and livestock. The longhorn cavern state park is nearby and they have the largest deposit of calcite crystals in the U.S.. Devil's Waterhole is also here and it is a popular swimming hole. The town is also close to Highland Lakes, which leads to Ladybird Lake or Town Lake in Austin. Around the downtown square of Burnet, you can find live music at Van Brocklin's Bistro or Trailblazer Grill. I played music for the wine club event at Wedding Oak Winery right there on the square. Good times.
