Welcome to this video tour of the Royal Holloway Library.
The Library is located in the beautiful Emily Wilding Davison building at the heart of campus. It houses the print collection along with a range of other services to help you during your time at Royal Holloway.
So let's not waste another moment, let's go have a look around.
The Library has over 450 000 print items in its collection, alongside over half a million ebooks, and countless other online resources.
The print collection is divided into the High Use and General Collection. The High Use Collection is on the ground floor, which appears on screen right now. Here you'll find print copies of all the essential texts on your modules reading lists.
The rest of our books are in the General Collection which are spread across the first and second floor of the Library.
Borrowing a book from the Library is super easy. First, locate the book you want on our shelves.
Once you've got it, take yourself to a self-issue machine. There's some located on each floor of the Library.
Then simply scan your College Card. Place the book on the machine. Wait until you see its title appear, and that's it you've borrowed a book.
So, now let's show you how to return a book. This is the automatic book returns machine for, well, returning books.
To return a book simply put it in the slot and that's it. It really is that simple. Outside of our opening hours there's a dropbox located on the side of the building that you can return your books to as well.
There are printers located on each floor of the Library. To use them you'll need your College Card and some printing credit. You can print in black and white, and colour, and you can also photocopy and scan documents
You'll find PCs located throughout the library and they're available on a first come first served basis. Each one has MS Office installed and is connected to the campus internet. They're super convenient if you're writing an essay, conducting research, or just want to browse the Library's catalogue.
There are a number of laptops available to borrow from the laptop cabinets located around the Library. They're really handy if you want to study in a part of the Library which doesn't have PCs.
To borrow them all you need is your College Card but remember, please don't take them out the Library.
The General Collection is located across the first and second floors of the Library and a lot of it is kept in rolling stacks.
Here you'll find resources which help you research beyond the essential reading on your reading lists.
Using the stacks is easy.
First, make sure there isn't anyone between the stacks we don't want any accidents.
Then unlock the individual stack.
Move it using the handles.
Then lock it back into place again.
You're now free to browse the shelves.
There's a wide range of seating options available throughout the Library a lot of which provide great views of the Founder's Building and the surrounding woodland.
A lot of the study spaces have a power socket so you can keep your laptop charged while you work.
We cater for a range of study preferences so do take your time to explore all of the available options.
So that's the end of the tour. There's a lot more to the Library than just books and study space
so if you ever need help using the Library you can use our LiveChat service, or email us at library@rhul.ac.uk.
