A Drivers Eye View From Boston - Skegness in Lincolnshire, UK. Route of the Jolly Fisherman trains from the 1980's. On a Perfect Summer Sunday with the Sun shining and fluffy white clouds dotting across a lovely azure blue sky.
This Video was shot using the excellent Garmin Virb Ultra camera and a suction cup. A link to the products can be found here.

The length of the platforms at Skegness show how in years gone how busy the station was with "specials" arriving from all over the midlands (mainly) especially on bank holidays. It is sad that rail travel today is so expensive as it could tempt people back if the ticket prices were reduced, a big part of the fun for me when I was a kid was the train journey itself.

Certainly were. Summer Saturdays would see train after train of 10 vehicles or more.

Great stretch of railway, i use this occasionally. It would be nice to see it rebuilt from Firsby up to Louth and Grimsby. Thanks for sharing.

I loved this journey too around 1963-68 in the modern 2 coach DMU's of the day. I always tried to get the seat directly behind the driver. As I remember the journey seemed to take around 45 minutes then but of course there were at least 6 stops. Halcyon days

To think this was once a proper main line, two Cleethorpes - Kings Cross trains a day, endless summer weekend excursions to Skegness & Mablethorpe, evening fish trains. Yes I was there...so long ago.

I like how he puts in writing all change at Skegness even tho this isn't a passenger train, when this train went through wainfleet this train passed a mirror showing DB.EWS Class 66, which traveling beyond boston on the skegness route can only mean its the track clearing train which is a pair of class 66's hauling 2 blue tank looking wagons in the middle. Still a good video never the less.

Certainly brought back some memories, used to go to Skeg at least once every Summer when I was a kid in the 1980s on those awful old trains that smelled of old tobacco and goodness knows what. I only wish you'd kept the noise of the train instead of the music.

RailMart hey there, great video, I wanted to ask can I use this footage again for a drivers eye view documentary for my channel between Barton-on-Humber to Cleethorpes. If you allow me to do so, your name will be featured within the credits if you allow me to use your video and put a link in to your channel. It is of course your choice but it would be a great opportunity. Let me know if it okay for you, look forward to hearing for you ☺️

Lovely trip across the waters cape lands of Lincolnshire into a rather "unloved" Skegness terminus station! If the platform edge white lines were painted that would brighten it up somewhat!

@@RailMart I wasn't directing my comments about the platforms at you, but the train company. Even a few flower hanging baskets here and there would cheer the station up, or perhaps Skegness is on its way out as a tourist destination which would be a shame?

Might be wrong but looks like the video is captioned "from the 1980s" but looking from the cab towards the station entrance the original station buildings are no longer there which were demolished around 2010

Just found your channel and have subscribed. Living in Australia , I'm not familiar with UK locations so I use "Rail Map on Line" to follow the journey. Looking on RPOL , I see that there were a few junctions eg Fisby , but I couldn't see any evidence of same on this video. Yours in railways ,Richard..

@@RailMart hi, thanks for your response. I spent 40 years on railway in UK ... 5 as a driver's assistant & 35 as a train driver before retirement... So the sounds of the traction motors & wheels grinding against the rails on curves is what I was used to... And besides, we definitely weren't allowed to have music of any description in the cab. I don't really miss the job either...

I love the industry. Only 34 years myself. At the time of the videos GDPR legislation was just coming around the corner and no one wanted to leave themselves open legally to be a test case. There was an awful amount of paranoia amongst HR managers.

Must be boring being a driver on that line, flat as a pancake, I come from up north, we have structures called hills and mountains. The line could do with a few curves to stop the driver nodding off.

I have viewed a lot of train rides, in England. It does not matter what part of the country we see. It just seems too me that all the houses are the same. It is as if England has book of houses, and builders just look in it, and decide , I think we will build number seven this time. Same red brick, same red tiled roof. Same pokey little semi. I know because I bought one in 1959. Things have not changed much since then.

This is the trouble with train journeys. Ambling along at 20mph on a line that could easily support 60mph. Why?
@RailMart
@RailMart 3 года назад
It is doing up to 60 Mph. It just doesn't feel like it at times. It was also following an all stations passenger service, so no point in rushing.
@seankirby2580
@seankirby2580 3 года назад
@@RailMart I've used the journey occasionally. Up to 60mph includes what I wrote. The speed limit signs show 20mph and that is what the train was doing. Most people have a life, and don't want to dawdle around at 20mph.
@SirReginaldBlomfield1234
@SirReginaldBlomfield1234 2 года назад
It's not 20 MPH all the way from Boston to Skegvegas, but take Firsby curve at more than the posted speed of 25 mph and you'll end up arse over tit.
