The composer is Al Kryszak. This film is part of a DVD called A Christmas Past, where he composed all the music. The score is kind of controversial as many people seemed to want more festive light holiday stuff. Personally I love the music and feel it fits perfectly in the haunting view of the images of Christmas from the distant past. It's a great- if sometimes strange-DVD.

People had less unproductive idle time on their hands. There was always something to do around the house, with the kids, helping friends, and such. Families were a real family of Mom, Dad and the kids. Neighbors helped one another, as did the Church. Neighbors looked out for their neighborhood, and when bad stuff happened, they put a stop to it then and there. I could go on, but you already tuned out in your blissful ignorance.

@@OdeeOz Exactly my thoughts on you, Odee Dillon. (Except I would have put a "t" at the end of the sixth word.) I do wonder how you interpret "Society is better now than it used to be" as sad. It seems to me that just the opposite is true: thinking things are worse is sad. And my facts are just fine, thank you. I see the good and the bad of both the past and the present. And I take it ALL into consideration in my evaluation. So are your facts just fine, by the way. The problem is that you are cherry picking. You only see the bits of the past that look good to you, and you are either ignorant of or choose to ignore the bad parts. And you only see the bad of the present, choosing to ignore the good. THAT is a sad fantasy. A dark, diseased fantasy.

"the deadbeat husband"??? The guy couldn't find a job because of economic hard times. Not his fault. He left his family only because he figured they would be better off without him. (One less mouth to feed.) Imagine the sacrifice of leaving your beloved wife and children to go out into the hard, cruel world without a pot to piss in or a bed to sleep in, and try to survive day by day all on your own.

It's one of those things you can say and people will condemn it without even stopping to think about why he did it, or what the real ramifications might be. People like to reduce things to simply absolutes. "A is bad. B is good." Life and reality are rarely simple.
