You might want to get an equine chiropractor/massage therapist to look at her after that, because I know people's horses that have panicked in a similar manner and had poll injuries. A shame it didn't go very well, but most horses act up when they go away to a strange new venue for the first time in a long while.

Thank you for your comment, it’s something I’ve already considered 🥰. I think it just shows how unpredictable they can be!

And that’s why break away halter or headcollers are amazing for outings where you have to tie up to t horse box or trailer cuz if the horse has a freak out moment the the halter would easily break and the horse wouldn’t get hurt

Just came across your channel! Love your positive attitude after having such a tough day. When I used to ride I only did a couple of shows and they always stressed me out. I always had fun but it was just so much pressure hahaha. Wish I could've been so calm and collected like you were! But just wanted to comment to let you know you are a fabulous rider, your horse is adorable, and I can't wait to go and watch more of your videos!

Thank you so so much for your kind words! I always get jealous of my friends competing and then when I do go (I don’t have transport which is why it isn’t very often) I realize that it is WAY to stressful 😂 I try and go to have a bit of fun and change of scenery but Holly often has other ideas. We’ve changed saddles and she’s lost a bit more weight since this video so hopefully we might get to go and do a bit more this summer 🥰

Have you had chance to watch the Lemieux unboxing video? If you watch that video you will get to see how she’s going now 😊

That was scary!! I just want to point out... it is incredibly dangerous to tie a horse up with the lead rope clipped to their bit. I was surprised to see you had done that, especially after just having the accident. If she were to pull away from the trailer for some reason, the bit could get caught in something or the pressure from the lead rope on the bit could cause serious damage to the tongue. Wondering if I'm the only one who was frightened to see her tied up like that! No hate, I just really couldn't watch without saying something.
@michellechloe
@michellechloe 3 года назад
I know it was extremely stupid (and dangerous) of me to do that, I honestly wasn’t thinking. If you watch some of my recent videos (like the Lemieux unboxing/try on) you’ll see that I do it properly and tie her up to the head collar 🥰

Thank you. I rarely go to shows because I don’t have my own transport (it was my friends trailer), but I’m definitely going to invest in a leather one next time. Thank you for the kind words though, I thought I handled it terribly, I just froze 🙈

This happened to me years ago at the Bath & West show!! She reached down to try and eat the grass, but was tied too short to do that and as she lifted her head up the headcollar snagged on the trailer and suddenly she was frantically fighting to free herself. I always travel horses in a leather headcollar so it snapped. She wasn't hurt but we were all shaken up. I never tied a horse to the back of the trailer again after that.

I had never heard of this happening (or experienced it before), but I’ve seen quite a few comments now saying that this has happened to them. It’s actually quite scary! I’m definitely going to use a leather head collar and tie from the side if I ever get to use one again

My old horse used to spook a lot and best thing is leather head collar it will break if they get court on anything and horses often find show atmospheres exciting and a little stressful, I used to find clinics useful to get them used to a different atmosphere from home. After your mishap, when she was standing there tacked up , did you have her lead rope attached to her bridle and then to the trailer ? It looks that way and I would caution you to be very careful with that practice, better yet , don't do it.
@katie685
@katie685 3 года назад
I would have to suggest always traveling in a breakaway halter or in a fully leather halter as this is how horses break their necks on trailers or attached to them. That is what I was always taught but at least she is okay
@hdhdhfnfnkfkfkfkf6411
@hdhdhfnfnkfkfkfkf6411 3 года назад
You should use a leather head collar, it will snap if that happens and no harm will occur , them nylon ones will just stretch and stretch, which can cause very serious damage. They are also Very dangerous for travelling.

Can I just say how well behaved the other horse was during that incident!... Was this mare in season by any chance during this time? Id bet my business on the fact she was! which is where all the 'mare-ish' behaviours are coming from including the screaming in the ring!

He was such a good boy! She fully came into season about a week after this, so I think it was a part of it. She had also been turned away for nearly a year so this was her first outing since her break and I think she was a bit overwhelmed (and she’s a drama Queen anyway)

Don't ever tie horses up to trailers ive seen terrible accidents and i believe that theres a campaign to stop it
@badgirlgoodwomen6585
@badgirlgoodwomen6585 Год назад
There is not a campaign to stop horses from getting tied to horse boxes, the campaign is to stop horse tethering at the sides of roads, roundabouts etc nothing to do with shows! When you go out competing and showing on your own, just you and your horse where do you groom, tack up, wash down and rug up etc? Yes it's great when you go 2 or 3 day eventing as you get an onsite stable but shows like this one and all 1 day shows do not have facilities like that! and i've competed for 20yrs or so as well as having a diploma in Animal Welfare and a L3 in Horse care and managment plus a L3 diploma in behaviour. There is no right or wrong answer in tying your horse to a trailer! The percentage of incidents against the number of horses out in shows everyday is in single digits! In fact there are more human injuries caused by there horse when trying to do things in a narrow trailler! and not tieing them up creates a very high percentage of loose horses causing knock on incidents and putting everyione in danger then there ever has been through horses tied to there trailer! It's all about buying the right 'quick release' products, I always recommend the 'High rise tie' which I used in every competition I went too!
