"The night I saw Searching For Sugar Man at SXSW was incredible. Not only did I get to see the film but also hearing Malik and Rodriguez speak, then attending a surprise show by Rodriguez with only fifty people and hanging out with Malik at the gig. I was very inspired by the way Malik held him self as well as obviously his film and asked if he would let me interview him. The following day we headed out to his hotel, way on the outskirts of Austin by the side of a motorway. Malik was very friendly and open to us and seemed to be still just getting his head around the success the film was beginning to have (this was a year before the Oscar.) I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know him briefly and am deeply saddened by his death, he was not only an incredible filmmaker but also a humble and inspiring man." -- Filmmaker Darius Devas

ameer al Bengal Most of the persons who commit suicide are momentarily in a state of psychotic delusion. They should go to a psychiatric clinic immediately to be treated with the right medicaments and professional support. It's nobody's faught, it's a very sad effect of mental illness.

amselschau suicide is never the right thing to do even if you think you have nothing left to do so should be with their loved one Suicide is often a very sensitive personality and not just a mental illness or heartbreak Depression is only part of the way but the deciding factor is usually about vulnerability that existed in the person since childhood

I loved the movie, but i was never aware of how much of a unique and energetic person Malik had been. Going through his interviews, iv'e been saddened by his death once again, and the thought of how we're never going to be able to see any more works from him is tragic.

The Sugarman movie was one of the best moving movies, I rejoiced, I cried, I got mad at the black guy, This movie on a budget ROCKED! Malik did not kill himself, he ws murdered by the record company. That is what I think happened. Malik lives on and on and on!

Mixed people have more extreme emotions… people with such different oppositional ethnicities inside them.. are more confused but also way more sensible / sensitive, emotionally intelligent

Beautiful man, I wish we could have somehow stopped him from commiting suicide to tell him he was great. So sad....Beautiful interview. I don't think it was his filmmaking, it was something else that made him feel so sad....

Beautiful man you can tell he’s Swedish with his high arched forehead prominent eyes and eyebrows my grandma looked like him She was full Swedish to rip man pain is unbearable sometimes

Wow what a superficial comment . He was not “full” Swedish . He was mixed . His “ prominent eye brows” are probably coming from his Arabic side .some people are so dumb it pains me .
