a legend, a star, and above all the best actress, she played every facet in acting -drama,love stories, comedy, suspense, and period pieces, she fit and made everything she did work and entertaining, not many actresses can do that...she will be missed and remembered in her fantastic body of work that she left us....
Ms. Hepburn was the best actress of all times, Meryl Streep is more versatile, but Hepburn had elegance and so much glamour, she always will be the best....................
I had forgotten about this Oscar Awards tribute in honor of Kate. I think many of her fans would agree with me that no other role that she had undertaken could ever surpass her magnificent talent in The Lion In Winter. She was Eleanor!!!!!!!
There will never be another like her - a true legend and THE greatest actress ever! 💞💞 My daughter is named for her - born just 5 months after Katharine died.
The single greatest actress in Hollywood history. They should have had Cate Blanchett present the tribute! She and Meryl are the only ones that even come close to matching the Great Kate.
Meryl Streep imo (and I know a lot will disagree) owes her reputation to fact that she's the Rich Little of actresses. She's basically a mimic. I have always found her so overrated.
a patrician, a sophisticate, an iconoclast!... &, along w/ Vivien Leigh, simply the GREATEST actress in the history of CINEMA...!! & so VERY deservedly & humbly paid tribute 2 in that montage @ her passing! Thank You & so thoughtful, AMPAS!
Oh geez, Kate didn't hate Meryl Streep. Kate think Streep's acting is too mechanical, that's all. It actually reminds me of when she told Anthony Hopkins, her co-star in The Lion in Winter, to not think and just do (or something like that).
I sure as hell hope there are many tears by the end of this clip. If you don't "feel" anything, you're being manipulated into a robot. Katherine Hepburn was an incredible woman & actress.
Meryl Streep: Super Saiyan God (Being practical, careful and calculator while acting) Katharine Hepburn: Ultra instinct (Not thinking while acting... Feel your character's emotions)
Funny how Katharine and Daniel Day Lewis are both the most awarded Oscar actors in a lead role (Kat-4x and Dan-3x) and maintains are very private life.
@1simaddict1 I loved "The Aviator", I actually think it's Cate Blanchett's third best role overall, after Elizabeth and Bob Dylan, of course. But despite not looking EXACTLY like Hepburn, she pulled off a masterclass performance. She truly is the new Hepburn, in my view. I wonder what Hepburn thought of Blanchett, I guess Blanchett's career took off in earnest after Hepburn's death, but it's very likely Hepburn might have seen "Elizabeth", and all the roles leading up to Lord of the Rings.
The Great Kate won four Oscars but none of them were for her best performances. She could just have handily been awarded for "Alice Adams", "Holiday", "The African Queen", "Summertime" and, especially, "A Long Day's Journey Into Night".
I tend to agree with you about the term "greatest". I admire Katharine Hepburn for her authentic personality. She made being unconventional acceptable and appealing, not to mention attractive. That is why I admire her so much. Lots of people buck the system but they just come off as arrogant and disrespectful of the opportunities they've been given. She was an individual and a character. It's very rare to see both qualities in one person. That's what made her so memorable in my opinion.
She should have won Oscars for Alice Adams, The Philadelphia Story and Summertime !! Not to mention Long Days Journey into Night!! In my opinion her greatest achievement.
Meryl Streep and Katharine Hepburn, the two most amazing performers to come out of Hollywood. The difference is Hepburn was the best in the history of cinema when it came to drama, but Streep could do all genres better then most of Hollywood put together. And why do the tributes never get standing ovations! She never received an honorary Oscar and never received a standing ovation for any of her wins, it's simply not fair, and she has never gotten the acclaim she so richly deserves.
@jckfmsincty No, I do think the Oscar for Golden Pond and especially the one for Lion In Winter were deserved. Her performance in Lion in Winter, to me, is the best female performance recorded on film. But I do agree her first two should rather have been for any of the films you mentioned. "Alice Adams" and "Summertime" being my personal picks :)
I agree ,Katharine Hepburn, was one of the greatest actress of all time. But Meryl Streep already has 3 Oscars, and still going strong, she mite tie her.
@pcalinescu I keep meaning to watch the Aviator......Did you see it? Was it good? I haven't really seen and Cate Blanchett movies and not much of a Meryl fan because I haven't seen many of her movies either. But I do love Death becomes her.
Interesting in that there were 12 movie clips with dialogue spoken by Hepburn in the tribute. She received 12 oscar nominations, but one nominated performance 1935's "Alice Adams" was missing from the clips, instead they had a clip from "Rooster Cogurn"...very odd since all other 11 clips came from nominated performances. Even if for some reason "Alice Adams" was unavailable because of copyright or what not I think they could have found a better film then "Rooster Cogburn" to have put in there. "Stage Door", "Bringing Up Baby", "Little Women", "Holiday", "Adam's Rib", "Pat and Mike"...so on and so on...all better choices than "Rooster Cogburn" for crying out loud!
appropriate to have Julia Roberts do this... Kate said of the new crop of stars that many didn't seem to have star quality, but she felt Julia had it in spades.
@NummiSoldier I'm not sure the title, but the words are, "It's a gift to be simple, it's a gift to be free. It's a gift to come down where you ought to be...To be in the valley of love and delight." It might be, "In The Valley Of Love And Delight."
He hated Meryl because she's a charector actress. Kate came up in a time where charector acting was considered sub par, you were expected to hone your image on screen and make that for into whatever part you were doing as opposed to now where you're heralded for being able to become anyone.
They had Julia Roberts present this award because Katharine Hepburn loved Julia Roberts, thought she was very talented and said so more than once. When Audrey Hepburn was given a Lifetime Achievement award in 1994 she sent Julia to accept on her behalf because she too loved Julia, thought she was very talented and would be a big star. You mad?
She NEVER said that she did not care about the ceremony . She just didn't know how to behave in those situation when she would have lost. And as for your research Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep cam e a LONG time after she had won at least Academy Awards . She was fully comfortable with who she was. And as for for her hating Jane Fonda, that was her point of view which she was entitled . Most men still hate their wives working and that's what she was pointing out.
Their video is beautiful and I have included it in the "Álbum de las Estrellas de Cine", thank you to share it, it can look for it in Internet writing "Banco de Cine" or "Tribute Actress Famous" or "Álbum de las Estrellas de Cine" and look for in the alphabet of the ALBUM for the initial letter of the star of this videotape K KA nº 01 Up in it paginates it where their video is there is a connection to "Listado de Honor" make click and once inside of it pulses in the LISTING of HONOR of the center, the name of its CHANNEL is already logged, congratulation and thank you.
@lolaalex59 No. You're wrong. I listened to Julia and it sounds nothing like it. I know "In The Valley..." I sang it at school, and was singing it along with this clip, note by note.
It is the very last moments of Gotterdammerung. Siegfried is dead. The Rhinegold has been returned to the Rhinemaidens. Brunhilde, whose last act has been to set fire to Valhalla, has thrown herself on the Funeral Pyre. The 'Age of the God's' is over, but this beautiful music lets us know that the Age of Man is now upon us.
Agreed. While I love Streep, she would never have been a star in Hepburn's era. She would have been an Irene Dunne, Jean Arthur, or Luise Rainer. Hollywood just wasn't making those kinds of movies back then that would have highlighted Streep's gifts.
@Jacksofhearts Yep, Kate would definitely have disapproved of Meryl... dunno why she disliked her so much - personally i think meryl's the second greatest actress after Hepburn. And Blanchett the only current actress with real odds of being in the same category as those two :)
No it's people like you with bad grammar who end up commenting on a video ABOUT Katharine Hepburn. She never said that she was always right . She merely had an opinion just like you have. And as for her acting abilities suffering from her views., you are just ill informed about her great actress she was. Ugh.
Well oscars usually seems unfair eg cate blanchet deserves ist oscar for elizabeth and then aviator was supporting which was right Nd another for supporting in role of bob dylan portyl of a man
