CCFC fan here. Was parked up in Cov City Centre one Saturday afternoon late on, around 4:30 ish, when this flash car pulled in front of me, and parked up. Out got Frank Worthington. Recognised him straight away. Although by this time he had retired, he still sported those trade mark long locks although his waistline wasn't quite what it was. I wound down my window, and said hello Frank, how can I help. He told me he was looking for a hotel in Cov because he was guest speaker at a sports dinner dance that evening and he was lost. Can't remember which hotel it was now, but when he told me the name of the hotel, I thought cripes that;s miles away, and the directions will take 10 minutes to explain. The missus was out shopping, so I said to Frank I'll take you there just follow me, which he did. He was a lovely gent and most grateful too. Although he was a Foxes legend sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Frank.
The goal he scored for Bolton by juggling the ball and then flicking it up and over the defenders heads before smashing it in the net was sublime! If Messi did that , everybody would be saying that is why he is the best player in the world!
Yes glad we also had super Frank at Bolton absolutely superb player for Bwfc... That goal against Ipswich at burnden Park was absolute class the work of a genius. Rip frank
An true entertainer often talked about along side the likes of George Best, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles to mention just a few.. I watched him week In and week out at Filbert Street during the 70's where he was a fans favourite.. Thank you for some lovely memories. Rest In peace now Frank
I was at the game in 1975 at Spurs when we lost 0-3 to Leicester. Worthington scored and he reminded me of Stan Bowles, incredibly gifted and charismatic with it. Admired by everyone. A sad loss. RIP.
Frank Worthington didn't get the cred he deserved cause that is how good I was. The guy was a genius and was thrilled when he played for Birmingham. R.I.P Frank
Frank was a truly gifted, skillful player. It was an absolute pleasure to watch him play. Sadly, in today's game, there is no one that has his charisma or flair. He was a GIANT and a LEGEND. RIP Frank.
Superb player , on the Burnden Paddock when he scored " that " goal for BWFC against Ipswich, and also when ge got the winner at Ewood to clinch promotion in 78. Top player, top man, highly thought of by all his clubs.
I was at a sportsman's dinner at our local football club. Frank was after dinner speaker and was absolutely hilarious. The whole audience was in tears with his stories about fellow pro's, parties, drinking and much more. Lovely guy.
Fantastic player and guy. Used watch him on Star Soccer in the Leicester team when football was football and commentators was commentators Hugh John's. Skillfully alert player with a great touch of the ball and finisher. Loved his music 🎶 🎸 to. Losing so many gifted talented players of bygone days they will never be forgotten. 👍 R. I. P Worthy. God bless. From nels. Wba fc fan.... ⚽
Very underrated player. Even today he would sleep walk into any of the top PL Teams. A maverick genius like George Best, Tony Currie, Alan Hudson, Stan Bowles, Peter Osgood & Rodney Marsh. A golden era for football. RIP Frank.
Well done Kenneth. You named every genius player from the 70s. And a time when all football supporters appreciated a good player, no matter who they played for.
What a legendary player. I had the pleasure to watch a true football player play at Filbert Street from the old kop in his Leicester City days. A Legend he is, so underrated by so few, adored by the Blue Foxes many. The foxes will be crying in honour tonight. RIP Frank
Another 1 of footballs characters sadly slips away.. When football was allowed to be football. Worthington, best, hunter, charton, stiles You played for pitence, but played with your hearts. We will never forget you lads Thanks for the memories. Hope your up there having a pint.. ⚽️⚽️🍺🍺
An amazingly gifted player that we had the pleasure of watching. He should have had lots more England caps but revie didn't like flair players. R.I.P Frankie wortho...
I think it was more down to Alf Ramsey. Alf changed teams very rarely, and Revie was little different. It was a lot harder to get into the England team back then than it is now. In fact, pretty much all club managers at the time only changed their team because of injury/suspension. Think the philosophy was very much to keep the same eleven as much as possible. Things kind of changed in the 80s.
One of those rare players loved by all fans. I was paid a great compliment when I was playing to be called Frank Worthington due to my style of play. His goal when he was playing for Bolton later in his career was a thing of beauty. RIP legend.
RIP Frank Worthington. An entertainer on the pitch and a gent off the pitch. Had the pleasure of meeting him twice at two testimonial dinners wen I worked at walsall fc in the 90s. Condolences to family and friends.
Was lucky enough to see him play with Birmingham. He had pure genius class, he beat Forest one night with 2 goals. The second he was on the the left and bent it into the far right corner past Peter Shilton no less. RIP Frank you gave so many so much. KRO
I once got a slapping from Frank at my cousins wedding. My cousin had just married a Huddersfield Town player called Jimmy McGill .The wedding reception had been decorated in blue and white I walked in and said to Frank you must have known I was coming he asked why and I told him that I was a Leicester City fan and thanks for decorating in Leicesters colours well I got chased received a friendly slap lol. I had been 15 at the time. Gosh over 50 years ago
@@bermondsey548428 Yes I had been born in Leicester that’s why I supported Leicester. When Frank came to play with Leicester my dad had been a steward at Filbert Street . He remembered my dad from the wedding and always spoke to him a proper gent.
One of the entertainers of his generation, I used to go up to Bolton if my team were not playing just to watch Frank. Far better player than some others bummed up by the media because they played for bigger teams and always a pleasure to watch.
What a player and character. The 70s had some great characters in the game and love the old muddy pitches RIP Frank and thanks for all the great memories watching you play #KRO
@@peterkent1582 An earlier post indicated why Worthington was not signed by Liverpool. Once you read it you can understand why! But yes Worthington would have won a lot and played more often for England if he had signed for Liverpool.
I first saw him on TV playing for Huddersfield and realised he was a fine footballer. I couldn’t believe it when he came to Leicester. I saw Frank a few times. R.I.P. Wortho you legend.
Really sad loss,,, loved watching him, and one goal they did not show ( cannot remember who they wre playing but was on TV ) was when , with back towards the goal with a defender either side of him flicked the ball over his head spun round and volleyed it into the net.....fantastic...RIP Frank
I used to watch "Frankie Wortho" when I was a kid at Filbert Street in the 70s. Great player & a great character of the game. It was worth the entrance fee to stand in the Spion Kop & watch him do his stuff. Every time he got the ball, a wave of excitement gripped the fans. He loved the high life too, Leicester's very own George Best. RIP Frank. A true Leicester legend.
Top bloke great football legend ul be missed by all at lcfc .so sad to hear ur gone .rip frank .from huge lcfc fan. And yes you and vichai will meet in heaven .
Leicester came to Luton in the FA cup in 1974. Absolutely wiped the floor with us. Weller, Birchenall, Worthington et al. Absolute class. Sad to see another legend gone. Regards, Nevada based Hatter.
RIP FRANK few years have gone by now since I had the privilege to get your wife and yourself the good seats at the Smokie concert Bradford you never forgot when you used to come to elland road in the press lounge we become friends at the time
Really saddened to hear of Frank Worthington's death today, some great memories of him playing and the game is all the poorer at his passing. RIP Frank.
One Frankie Wortho, there's only one Frankie Wortho. One Frankie Wortho...there's only one Frankie Wortho. Wortho and weller back together again . Loved them both, was lucky enough to have seen them play. You will always be a Filbert street legend Frank R.I.P mate 😪
World level striker who never quite got the recognition for England. Met him whilst attending a Bolton Wanderers supporters meeting, and he took the time out to meet the fans. He's football royalty in my opinion, and would have excelled in any era.
Such a shame there seems so little or f Frank on film. He was brilliant at Brighton every game he played. World class player but where's what we watched week after week. Crazy there's no film showing this.
Well done Frank lets have another one, Leicester were not a star studded team but their love of football shone through in their togetherness, skill and making football free flowing easy on the eye, thoughts with Frank's family, friends and Leicester. Leeds fan.
A class act in the true sense of the phrase. We only had him at Leeds for a short spell, 15 goals in 35 appearances. One of those characters who lit up the crowd.
Charlton fan here! Always loved watching the great Frank play! he was so skilled and gifted. Pity England had to many good forwards back in his day. I think he deserved more caps for England! He will always be remembered in a golden age of football!
Although I'm a United, I'm deeply saddened to hear about FW, passing, he was one of those special, larger than life talented players. The thing I remember most about him was a reporter asked him who was his most dangerous opponent, with out missing a beat Frank , replied " my ex wife " RIP, Frank , you are a legend
Great player! Even though I only saw glimpses of Wortho, as a little kid. My older brother, and most of the boys off the Northfields, idolised him. He had so much natural talent, and played with freedom. Add the looks and charisma of a western gunslinger, and you've got big Frank.
