R.I.P. Frankie Wortho. I saw him a few times, and once he had the ball he was difficult to dispossess. A real footballer’s footballer, and he should have won more England caps.
I was privelaged to watch Frank Worthington for a couple of seasons down in Leicester. He was an amazing footballer and charasmitic character. One of the sweetest left foots about. Having grown up with that era absolutely gutted this top man has passed. Rip FRANK
He was a special player real character but I still think how many goals he'd of scored for Liverpool with shankley and Paisley at the helm....he was a football playing rock star ⭐⭐🌟....
Yes but l never saw him play l was too young as he left us in 69/70 l think, funnily enough the year we won the league,l started going the game from 71 onwards when we were shite.
He scored an awesome goal for Bolton against Everton ( If my memory serves me correctly). He had his back to goal outside the penalty area, flicked the ball up a couple of times, did a delicate over head kick and vollied the ball right in the back of the net. The defenders marketing him were left wondering what had happened.
What a outstanding goal it was 🤩it’s on my channel, Frank Worthington Wonder Goal, feel free to watch it, incidentally it was against Ipswich in season 1978-79 & I always remembered it from my childhood.
@@andyforshortbutnotforlong5351 thanks I'll check it out and have trip down memory lane on RU-vid. It was a long time ago indeed and Ipswich were a decent team around that time too .. again, if my memory is anything to go by 🤔 😂
@@richardmorton4762 my memory is not 100 % either 😉. Ipswich were a good side at the time & won that game at Bolton 3-2, & went on to win the UEFA Cup 2 years later.
you're so right there, frank, had flair and there was no place in the england set up for such players----same thing with malcolm macdonald only 14 caps despite his strike rate.
Met Frank when he was scouting for Kevin Keegan at Newcastle, he used to come into the club bar with his cowboy hat and boots on! Larger than life but modest, would talk football but never about himself---great player respect from Newcastle fan.
@shakercoola I just tried searching for Rowley, he played for Shrewsbury Town as well. This is class but how disgusting that theres no footage of a player like Rowley.
fantastic talent, no supprise that he only got 8 caps for England, whilst Neil Average Webb got 26. This sums up Englands attitude towards tallentbetter than anything. Worthington 8 caps Webb 26 caps. what a joke.
Alan Hudson, Stan Bowles, Tony Currie, Charlie George and big Frank great players and characters which is why Ramsey and Revie wouldn't pick them for England.
fantastic tallent ignored by his country. Did Robin Friday play international football, Robin Friday and Worthington both had more ability when they were born than neil fucking webb ever had, but Webb was a grafter. Its a joke and why I cannot follow England till they change their attitude.
