I see so many people saying nonsense, mainly Europeans, in videos on RU-vid. There's nothing to say or compare with. There isn't, there wasn't and there won't be a player like Pelé. Who else is a three-time champion? Who else has so many goals? What other 17-year-old made his debut for the national team by scoring goals in the final? No one has as much skill, or the same physical structure, or genius, or kicks with both legs, besides taking free-kicks, heading... Pelé was a perfect machine to play football. As someone has already said: it was not from this planet. Some childishly argue: "I didn't see the game!" If you haven't seen it, too bad for you. I saw.
I'm from the US and Pele is the first soccer player I had ever heard of. I'm sure there are a ton of Americans who have that same experience. He is the reason soccer grew over here.
I was born in '75 and he was the first pro athlete that I was aware of by 80-81. Out of any sport, I knew his name. Everyone else at that time to me was part of some team, all blurred together as a kid. But everyone knew Pele.
I watched Pele play with the Cosmos. I saw Cruyff and George Best in the same era while living in Europe. People can argue all day about who the "greatest" player was - Pele, Maradona, Messi, CR7, R9, etc. But there is only one King of Football. Pele's impact on the global popularity of The Beautiful Game is unmatched. Nobody else's contributions to the sport come close.
My father, who is 72 and is crazy about footbal, watched one of his games when Pele played in Rio and to this day he is still shocked. To him, hands down the best of all times.
I don't even watch soccer and know very few modern player's names - but I know the name Pele and I'm glad that he changed the game and the world around him and brought joy to his country.
It is only through some sort of statistical fraud that someone would come up with something that says Pele isn't that best of all time BOAT 🚢 and the greatest of all time GOAT 🐐.

Pelé was the first worldwide football megastar. He made the number 10 shirt be the one for the best player of the team. And was an imbassor for the sport around the world. He also was a secretary of sports in Brazil and did a great job for minority people and a new law which modernized the relationships between players and clubs. That's why so many brazilian players were able to get out of Brazil after the 90s to play in Europe since they could decide it. Before Pelé it was more difficult. Pelé was considered a "national treasure" with only 17 years old in 1958. To sold him to play in Europe would be a crime. And also the players who played outside Brazil weren't able to play for the national team, so most of them decided to stay in Brazil to play the world cup.
I’m from the USA, and I don’t care about sports. But even me - and I don’t know anything about the sport - I know about Pele. My father was an older man when I was born - and thankfully I have the memories of his stories watching Pele play live.
Growing up in Chicago I didn’t know anyone into soccer, but everyone knew of him like Babe Ruth or Paul Bunyan. Only player anyone could name until maybe Maradonna.
I don't get the same BBC here in the states, but that Dan Roan guys is extremely articulate and thoughtful with his words. I was kinda entranced with the way he was speaking.
Please react to “Pele highlights The best goals and skills of the king” and also “ Pele, He did it 50 years ago” which shows all the skills that todays players do he did them before!
Neymar has shown his true colors again. Not only did he not catch a plane on his day off to pay his respects to the legend who played in the same club as him, if even for a few minutes, he also decided to go out partying during his memorial.
I barely know anything about soccer, but grew up in the late seventies in the US knowing who Pele was, I think the only other sports superstar that comes close to him, would be someone like Michael Jordan maybe.
Always seemed like daz has had a successful career I don’t know what kind of jobs he’s had but he’s traveled the world, seems to know quite a few famous ppl by relation which is rare. Seems like he’s done well for himself & family & is a down to earth guy. Again being humble is rare nowadays & he certainly is
I first came across Pele because the cheesy 80's movie 'Hotshot', where a soccer player travels to go meet him to be trained. I re-watched it out of nostalgia last year and it was so cringy, but I appreciate It introduced me to who it was and I thought the bicycle kick at the end was the shit as a kid just getting into soccer.
RIP to the best of all time BOAT ⛵ and the greatest of all time GOAT 🐐.Pele was a pioneer and that still remains the case because nobody has been able to do what he did with an efficiency rate that is same or better. Pele was technically better faster, stronger, well balanced in such that he wasn't just an all-round great player, his all-round abilities were very high unlike most all-rounders who are just average all-around.
Hi guys. Big loss. I am not a big soccer fan, but have been aware of Pele for many years. My older brother told me about him and games he was playing were the only soccer games I would watch. Until a little girl whose parents I knew started playing and I would watch her games as a kid and all the way through her high school days. Then her college games on TV and of course when she became a member of the US National team. She is retired now and I still try to watch and support the US National team (women), but because of the politics of some of the players in recent years I have a harder time watching. I have been a sports fan my whole life, mostly baseball, basketball and American football, but always touted Pele as a legend. He was a joy to watch play. Oh and Dave there are stories going round about Peles feet going to a museum. They are not true. Just internet morbidity.
Pelé is way above all people you mention, Jordan is the only one many knows, most basktball fans. Pelé even people, Americans knows Who he is. Babe Ruth, Tom Brady are Americans heros. Wayne G sure is more well know .
Pele is the reason why number 10 became so iconic in footballing world. But he was not first who took the beautiful game to new heights in the world it was Alfredo Di Stefano that started that. But RIP Legend another number 10 leaves this world to join another
he was the first superstar in the history of football, where was Di Stefano? it is a factual fact that Pelé was the one who helped build and took the beautiful game to a whole new level, Di Stefano was there yet football's greatest ever was Pelé and will always be Pelé!
@danielkyereaborampa7218 Alfredo Di Stefano was the first "Proper" Footballer the game had seen and than came Pele you got give credit where's credit is due mate
In the United States we don't care much about soccer, nor encourage our children to play it after the ages of 10 to 12, because we see it as a child's play non scoring non violent sport boring, however we even know the name of him. Legend. And before you try to tell me it's called football we Americans adopted the name soccer which Our English cousins actually coined the name. We took that name from themselves "soccer" and ran with it
You never play the game, is far more violent than all team sport in América. Not as much your football or ice hockey, that you turn a nice sport in a UFC
Just think how better off the world would be if all the descendants of the Atlantic slave trade would have gotten help instead of being degraded and dehumanized. Rest in peace to a legend that made it out of nothing to be known as the greatest.
