The Dream SMP is my favourite Minecraft server, probably ever. Now that I've hit 100k, let's talk about why, while absolutely ripping off JSchlatt's "A Tribute to Minecraft" format in the same breath. Thanks for 100k, guys :)

Thought this was obvious from the first paragraph of the description - but the format of this video is heavily derived from "A Tribute to Minecraft": • A Tribute to Minecraft

It’s really interesting to see how different our perspectives can be. As someone who got into the dsmp a lot later, when the lore was the main focal point, I’m really invested in the story and characters and would be pretty bummed if they gave up on that and went back to it just being a regular survival server. However I can totally see how some people might miss that aspect of it, as you said, the genuineness. Goes to show how diverse the community is I guess X)

As someone who has followed the Dream SMP since Tommy joined, I also have the same opinion as animagician. The old days were so much better. But if you joined in later I can understand you wouldn’t want it to return back. But just trust me, if you joined in the early days, you would’ve also thought that was at least 10x better than what it is now.

Dream smp legitimately helped so many people, like me during this pandemic! It is true that now the dream smp is not what it was like earlier, but again I would be lying if I said the I don't enjoy the lores! And you are very correct, 1.18 is probably going to be a big change. The dream smp was created when 1.16 was released just to *explore* the new world. And we are back at a similar situation again! A new update, and maybe, the old dream smp!

I discovered the dsmp at the beginning of April, very VERY late obviously, and what attracted me was the lore, I like the stories and their acting. I don't regret getting into the fandom, it really helped me improve my english. As I got into the community, I saw a lot that said they missed the old days, I saw some of those old streams, not all of them, they are funny, but not as such what I would watch for 3 hours in a row. As the months passed I realized, the dsmp will never be what it was before, not specifically because of the story line (now that they already have a new world) but because of the lives of the content creators, their schedules, requests, trips , new ideas, goals, all that changed. Just knowing that content creators do like to do lore and are excited for their return, with that I am happy. In addition to the concept of "only playing on an smp" they continue to do it, yesterday with Karl, Foolish, Bad, Ponk, etc ...

Agree with most of this although it’s so difficult I want this cool Quackity lore that’s been pre recorded and scripted but I also want lore that’s inside the stream of someone building a house I want to see someone like Phil be building then techno comes along and mentions his plan for the prison and how there will be a meeting soon not just 2 days ago this happens onto the live lore

that was the exact same thought I had when I started watching it. I was like: this is really great but I'm scared to get invested because I feel like its more likely to just get milked until its just no fun anymore then it is to actually have a proper end... and there are just so many different plot threads there are most certainly some that will never get resolved but I have hope that maybe, just maybe, they'll manage to give it the end it deserves.

I know you mentioned that you didn't really like when the 'impressive builds' like the Prison and Foolish's builds, since they made it less 'genuine' and less like something anyone can build, but with all due respect, I completely disagree, particularly in the case of Foolish. Despite Foolish being a really talented builder who spends hours on the server daily, he streams *most* of the building process, showing his mess-ups and distractions and the frustration of gathering materials. He gives the viewers a unique aspect of the building process that is rarely seen from other 'builders' who pretty much all do off-camera or time lapses when they build. It's a different sort of 'genuine' from the initial SMP, but he also finds the time to hang out with other SMP members and usual shenanigans ensue. Heck, earlier this week there was another 'lawsuit' that included Antfrost and Eryn trying to force Foolish to accept more catmaid services, complete with an almost forced adoption! :D

@mystik_owl

Honestly, it’s no more toxic than any other fandom. There are the good parts along with the bad parts, and the bad parts always seem louder. Sure it’s a pretty unique community with it’s own new controversies and problems, but it just comes with the new media this fandom comes from. There’s also a lot of problems other fandoms have that aren’t a problem here, like incest ships. It all balances out. This is coming from someone who has left the fandom and tries to distance themself from it. Even on Twitter, if you’re just careful about who you follow, you can avoid most of the toxicity.

For me the dsmp is a complicated thing. Now The main way I got into the dream smp was around summer 2020 and Tommy’s videos came up and I clicked it, still not knowing what the dream smp itself was with just little bits about it being mentioned and that was all I thought it was till I downloaded twitch. I originally downloaded twitch to watch this streamer I saw on tiktok around October 2020 (it was highkeyhateme btw) and then realised that people like Tommy and Wilbur streamed i slowly started to become addicted and by the time of the blowing up of l’manburg I was completely obsessed with the only thing I would watch would be their streams and videos. Now I still love it when it happens and I like being part of this fandom as it is the first long term proper fandom I have ever been in . But others have made my experience a lot worse there’s the side of it where you cannot express your like of mcyt without being bullied online or even in person, but then there’s the other end of the scale where there are some downright over obsessed and crazy fans who bring the whole fandoms rep down, with these making me want to downright leave the entire fandom and stop watching as it has done to many others. And even though I still love it I am almost in a way afraid of not enjoying it anymore, like I understand we all have phases and move on and it this is no exception and Is garenteed to join all the others as just a element of enjoyment from the past but I feel that if it ends or I ‘move on’ that I will not know what to do. Mcyt is pretty much on of the only things and I watch and when I do art it’s always fanart and I’m always quoting or making references even when nobody get them but it’s inevitable. So yeah. (Idk what this it and I don’t think it makes sense but awsome video man like always

I remember when the server was simple survival and a nation just born. I joined the fandom around July-August when Eret's betrayal was still fresh - I remember looking at Wolfy's animatics when they only had a a few thousand views. I remember finding SAD-ist's first animatic. I remember when the fandom held itself together and close, when we were only a small corner of the internet. Good times, good times - here's to more good times to come :)

I think what makes the dream smp good is the mixture of improv and storytelling. To this day there is a still a mixture of both, as streams contain lore but also non-lore and 4th wall breaking. Techno’s stream with Dream in prison, still cracks me up. The recent lore still has plenty of improv as well with Connor being in prison, and Eryn just wondering around interrupting people’s lore. Also Tommy’s exile was filled with banter with other streamers and bits so I wouldn’t say that died out after the election. Anyways, everyone has a right to their own opinion and it’s sad that you don’t get the same enjoyment out of it anymore.

An important thing I really liked about quackity lore is how the themes match up with how he makes the streams let's say for examples the first few seasons with schlatt his lore was VERY personal and revolved around his relationship with other people and as the special lore streams began something that I liked about the old quackity lore lost about it self was the lack of actual characters talking around like actual human streamers but they talked more like characters from stories. Thus quackity became from streamer entertainer quackity into quackity the Leader of las nevadas and in the current lore country and his money matter more than his personal relationships very similar to how his way of creating lore changed

I miss the time, when the smp wasn't in an echochamber of its own world. The references and early animatics on Hamilton were the best part. I remember the animatic of History has its eyes on you by InvaderBekk, where Will tells Tommy that it's his time to shine. Sure this makes sense plotwise, but the genius is that Tommy used to be fairly unknown compared to the established Wilbur in the MC community, but both and all revolutionists too fought against the higher power, both in Lore and RU-vid influence, Dream. L'manberg felt like the story of independence, not of a nation but how small creators can have a impact too. That made it genuine to me
@wren4149
@wren4149 2 года назад
I completely agree, the dream smp has just lost its flare. I believe that l’manburg felt like home for many of us viewers mainly because of the reality of the characters created. We all new that we would never be able to join the lovable group but we would do anything we could to be a part of the amazing community. The latest arks have been lacking that sense of belonging that I and many others clung to. To achieve the same effect again with a new original scenario is nearly impossible. I feel like once the place we call home is gone it can never truly be replaced. Anyway, love the video! :)

I used to be really into Dream SMP, but about a half a year ago I discovered Hermitcraft! While the Dream SMP is definitely not bad and I still enjoy occasionally watching related content, Hermitcraft was absolutely more in my corner. I found myself engrossed in watching Tango build up decked up in S7 or laughing as I saw Grian prank various hermits in S8. When S9 started, I began to watch other hermits and realized how amazing each one of them was. After binging so many Hermitcraft videos I realized what I saw in Hermitcraft that I wasn't able to find in the Dream SMP. The Dream SMP experience for me (this is subjective and DEFINITELY not what the creators intended) was completely reliant on the amazing animatics and the lore videos (like Animagician's!). Although Hermitcraft does have a great fanbase (definitely less toxic as of late), I was entrapped in the world before I even watched a single fan made video! Ani I know your experience is much different- especially since you made the first fanmade Dream SMP video- but I do think that the current fanbase probably watches as many videos about the Dream SMP as actual Dream SMP videos. In fact, the first Dream SMP related content I ever watched was a SAD-IST animatic that made me want to look into the series. On a related note, I've also experienced this with many other fandoms, especially warrior cats. I'm going to be blunt here... Warriors books are garbage and I never would have picked them up again if not for the huge animation community. I went into the warrior cats rabbit hole for about a year (as you can see by my channel) and although I will always thank it for the rapid growth I saw in my channel, it's also what inevitably burned me out of animating. I have made an animation I liked in almost a half a year and it feels EXHAUSTING. That's the problem with growing a passion for a broader skill on just one fandom. The moment I realized I didn't really enjoy warrior cats, I was lost. I didn't feel good at animating anything else, especially things that weren't cats. Aaaaand I just realized I started talking about Dream SMP and now I'm having a career crisis- Ah well, thanks for reading my ridiculous rambling thus far, have a great day!

I honestly don’t really agree. I started watching with Wilbur’s videos on the Revolution and started watching streams during the lead-up to the election, and to me, the Dream SMP was by far the most immersive world I had ever seen. It was a different way of storytelling, and this world was generated because of the way that streams were constantly happening from different perspectives. The fact that they were constrained by lore didn’t matter to me, because I’ve never been huge on pure comedy- that’s part of the reason why I rarely watch the vlogs. Sure, they can be funny, but I’ve never found them particularly engaging. The perspective-based story and the immersion of this world was what set the Dream SMP apart for me and made it a refuge. However, the real downfall for me was when people began to always distinguish lore streams from other streams. This world felt the most alive when everything was lore, so to speak. It’s also why I’m not huge on the highly-produced streams- I’m not watching a stream for the production value, I’m watching for the meaning beneath.

I don't know exactly why I'm crying. The Dream SMP will always have a place in my heart, because, well it felt real. It was never a story, it was a bit. It felt like a bunch friends having fun, creating stories or plot just because they felt like it. The happiness it brought me, the raw random humor. It felt like one of Tommy's mod videos, Wilbur just making another cult without any reason but fun. Tubbo being Tubbo and everyone just doing random shit and making bits. It felt like an escape but isn't entirely. It felt like reality. It felt like home. That's a better way to say it.

Even though sometimes I miss old dream smp, I can’t not acknowledge the fact that the way it is right now is necessary (except of really rare lore) and we can’t really do anything about it. I was doing similar role play myself for a long time and I can tell for sure that when the things are going to an end and you have to wrap up the story, you have to do a lot of scripting. There’s literally no other way it will work efficiently. Second point is while in LManburg you could have sided with anyone, now we have actual villains who are going to far. I think the fact that lore is “not genuine” now helps to separate content creator from villain Or questionable character. I’m still kinda against fully prerecorded lore as it is, but the regular one feels the same for me as a year ago

This video is wonderful and sums up so much of what is going on with the DSMP right now. I'm particularly glad that you touch on the fact that it was daily streams. At a time in the world when structure was hard, it was wonderful to have something you could watch every day. DSMP was to me, for a period, the same thing that soap operas/telenovas were to my gran - characters she knew doing outlandish things every day at 3 pm. I absolutely understand why that could not last forever, but it was the connection and community we needed at the moment we need it. I don't expect to ever be able to recapture that, honestly, I just hope that it gets a real ending and doesn't just fade away.

Great video!! I am now going to get very sentimental about a block game. 2019-2020, the dream smp and it’s fanbase really was a place of safety in amongst so much fear and uncertainty. It inspired me, I met people through it and I fell in love with storytelling. Although, over the last few months, and tbh probably since the start of 2021, that love n fixation has definitely shifted. I don’t feel the need to watch every tommy vod that I miss, or animate every cool moment from a stream, but tbh I think I am a little sad to be about done with something that bought me so much joy. It really did make me very happy! anywayz,, I am grateful for all that I got out of this content, and who knows? Maybe I might find another solace in the upcoming dsmp reset, aaanndd maybe I won’t! Either way, I will always think back very fondly of this era of content and it’s community, and I’m glad I got everything I got out of it :D

Been watching since wilburs joined. I found it interesting how the community drastically changed. There were a few big booms. First was the original few just chilling. Then the small spike tommy brought in. Then a larger spike when wilbur joined and then another when he started L'manberg. And then SAD-IST dragged in every single animatic creator,animator and artist into the fandom. Making it explode along with quackity and jschlatt joining in. And then from there, it spiraled and grew insanely. Sometimes I wish the smp didn't get so big, maybe it would be less strict in term of lore streams or maybe the lore would've been finished? The structured lore is perfect, beautiful and engaging but the intensity and chaotic nature of improv of the early lore fuels me, it's what drew me. It's why I watch Ponk and his lore more often, he shoves it frantically into his regular streams, sprinkling halves of storylines and having his canon character behave like him, making the interactions, canon or not, believable and fun to think about in canon contexts. When he does structured lore it's mostly improvised or fun and light. His storytelling seems to be the only thing that reminds me of the very beginning of the DreamSMP storyline. And I love it.

I never really watched the smp until shortly before that lighthearted feel really left, in one hand I was excited to see a story pick up, as I'm a writer, and love lore and whatnot, but at the same time I was kinda sad to see the lightheartedness go. It really sucked to see something so sweet and pleasant go. I liked to let them play like a podcast while I did work. I can see both ends of the spectrum, and no matter what way the Dream smp, I respect the creators, I respect their sweat, their opinion, and everything they've put into this. The smp to me wasn't about the server, it was about the creators, and it's really opened my eyes to the content creators out there. I'm so glad that I can watch all of these streamers/youtubers do things other than the Dream smp, because they really do have many talents, and I love seeing that. To me it's not about what happens, it's about *who* happens.

I've been to film camp multiple times and to me the lore thing is similar to the process of making a short film but the filming happened live. Planning the script and journey was important, but we didn't fully know if that journey could work out the way we wanted. Sure we had a plan on the first day of what scenes to shoot at what time, but again, we didn't know if if we would make it or not. Usually we ended up succeeding but there were situations we often had to work around especially during filming and editing. Even then we still had fun. We were just a bunch of ppl in a camp having fun while also making something amazing. That's what the lore of the DSMP felt like to me. A giant film camp lasting months in end, yet we the viewers only see the final project or in this case a big stream. But I also feel excited for everyone to be able to start over. And do new things. Perhaps this is why tinno set those rules: No blocks from the old world, nothing was allowed. Cause it gave a new start.

I don’t know what to say honestly, I agree wholeheartedly with every point and entirely relate to the sudden investment that came from the start of the SMP and amazement of the genuine feel of early lore and I miss that… The SMP thrived on the spontaneous interactions of the streamers and their random crazy antics and was propelled by the fan base with their animations, art, music and 9 minute long summary videos with 1.2 million views (hint hint nudge nudge) that were inspired by improvised characters, conflicts and creations. The way I see it (and I may be wrong) the SMP tends to go into inactivity because of real life complications and, like you mentioned, high expectations. The real life stuff and other interests outside of the Dream SMP can’t be helped, they all have their own lives. The expectations that lead to everyone trying to outdo one another and create an interesting and engaging story for the audience is really cool and the movie lore with high production that comes from Quackity, Awesamdude and Karl is awesome but it takes a long time so we’re left with periods of nothing while months go into planning and producing mini movies when we’d maybe appreciate a stream where 3 people just mess around in character just as much. What I’m trying to say is, I love the Dream SMP and it’s creators but I (personally) don’t need a stream that’s been weeks in the making and planned to perfection to enjoy the story they’re trying to tell as long as I get to see the streamers I like having fun :) (Sorry for the rant, amazing video Ani, made me really nostalgic)

Great video!! I also miss the old streams. My favourite vod being Quackity becoming the therapist. Or the way the lore was not /lore/ like Skeppy literally came on the server burnt Tommy's disc and just logged off for another month. Although I do have to say Quackity's lore streams are so brilliant to watch, but I do miss the ones where they'd just fool around and constantly stream on it. The only person who I feel is consistently streaming on the smp rn is Foolish. I really hope they start stremaing more on it again

I really liked it because it reminded me of the casual roleplay and wonder that Stampy’s Lovely World (an earlier Minecraft RU-vidr, Stampylongnose) used to have when I was younger. But it had in-depth lore and less scripted stuff (it was scripted but not as minute to minute as the Stampy’s was when they did lore) that I could get into as I got older. As a writer and artist and streamer, it reawakened that desire for me to be a part of it. Just like how with Stampy, I always wanted to get into his “love garden” and now the Dream SMP is my new dream. If Ranboo could get in, a part of me dreams that I can be a part of it too. It has issues, yeah, but it’s still something that pushes me to become a streamer and all that for that very reason, the chance that I might, just maybe, get in the server. I love the lore and character stuff because I am a writer and artist, but I also see what you mean and I don’t want the Creators to lose their enjoyment in the SMP, I didn’t want them to lose that because of lore and abandon the SMO altogether and get burned out.

as someone who joined the fandom in january 2021, i joined entirely for the lore and would be heartbroken if they got rid of all the old places and the connection between characters that have built up as the months went by. it is interesting, though, to see the views of people who joined all the way at the beginning, and how their perspectives differ as they've watched the server grow and change from what it originally was

I joined by watching one of Tommy’s vods at the beginning of his exile arc, as they kept getting recommended to me. I miss the way it used to be, too, even though I wasn’t there yet. As a theatre kid, I LOVE how the storyline has developed over the past year and a half, but I also wish I could see the improv’d bits that brought it to life in the first place. Here’s to hoping for the future! (also CONGRATS ON 100K SUBS!!! :D)

This is the first SMP I ever followed regularly and I didn't really get involved in the community until December 2020, after Tommy was exiled. I had so many videos to catch up on. 😂 I love the lore so much, but I do think the stories have gotten a little convoluted. It was nice when the story was in the background and the players were playing every day just for fun.

I had a minecraft world with my family members on our Nintendo switch and it had the Same feeling I got from dsmp but it started getting laggy cause of how many builds it had in it that it became impossible to play. it had so much explored land that minecraft would take like an hour to load so I had to delete it I'm still sad about not backing it up today but sometimes things are more fun when they dont last long the dreamsmp is the same it was amazing at the start and then when it started to slow down they should have ended it but they didnt sometimes the best thing have to be let go and that's the same for the dream smp.

As someone who joined during pogtopia when it was starting to get lore-y, I'm really interested in the storyline but I can defiently see why people would miss the good old DSMP. I have always been really REALLY into roleplay so that's why I just loooooove the lore.

I completely agree with this video. I think that the Dream SMP was good until the exile Arc because right now there are no stakes. I'm not worried if Tommy would actually die and leave the server because Tommy would either return as a ghost or get revived. I personally don't think that scripted storylines are that big of a problem, I think that where it starts to become bad is where the story doesn't respect the medium it is told in. People who play Minecraft can have genuine wars and battles over items and land, which is why I think the pogtopia arc was pretty good. I take issue when there are magical revive books and people get possessed by an egg because there's no suspension of disbelief that one could have that this is a normal Minecraft server.

Very good video & super well made, thank you for sharing your opinion! I really enjoy hearing other people's perspectives. For me, I believe it's mostly because the original people are just busy with other things and don't have time to log in to dsmp and collaborate, except only for planned lore, because it's a date they can actually schedule. It's very understandable choice since they aren't obligated. That's why personally, I wouldn't change anything about the storytelling! In my opinion, both scripted and improv is super good. I feel like it's more important that each CC enjoys doing whichever methods they find to be the most fun, and those who are actively on the server are continuing to do a great job with it. 💖 I do want to say something about Foolish & his base since it was mentioned here, though, as a further example. Foolish is on the server often, and has managed to achieve a really solid lore balance of his own over the months. He's really doing so well. Both great scripted performances & very frequent top tier improvs with people. His base (summer home) is the same way, with the planned Egg-arc events to the improv L'sandburg war, Ponk's rehabilitation & Cat Maid Co arcs. All have had lasting consequences for the characters too, even up till literally this morning! 😂 But the greatest example of a balance is Foolish's most recent ongoing arc with DreamXD. IT'S SO GOOD. Seriously, anyone who hasn't yet, I really recommend watching clips/VODS!

I probably wouldn't contribute much to the conversation since I spent two years trying to ignore Dream and his SMP-basically anything that connects to minecraft since I was shite at building and I have vivid dreams about blocky settings after playing- but I do want to say that as someone who only recently joined, and as someone who's very passionate about storytelling and the very art of everything that includes such, I greatly appreciate the lores. Despite not having the patience to sit through hour-long streams, having an actual storyline to follow, some characters to analyse and having it all in an enough amount of time to actually process it and not having to watch streams everyday just to understand the story is greatly engaging. I guess it's just me and my lack of connection that OGs have but I like that they have a place where they can write stories where they don't have to include their personal lives while still being able to share content they want and love. It's incredible. It's what being an artist is like, what being an entertainer is and I really love it. I understand how some wouldn't agree, of course, but I guess the lores just made it easier to pull people into the community. I don't know though. It might seem a detached take but I personally think it's better? I'll just have to stick around I guess. Maybe I'll change my mind.

As someone who has seen both sides, the casual and the heavy lore side, I honestly don't know which one I prefer. It's why I like the concept of semilore so much, a concept pretty much born on this SMP, where people mess around like they do on casual streams, except they are in character and any choices and actions they make have consequences. I love seeing the big lore streams, but my favourite moments on the SMP is when no one mentions lore, they just go for it. It's the reason I love Ranboo's, Tommy's and Wilbur's streams the most. They are always in character yet still mess around. They react to stuff in character, meaning they can switch to hard lore any second when necessary, but it's never explicitly called out. I wish everyone would just go on the server in character and mess around, occasionally acting out scripted events. SPOILERS FOR THE JAILBREAK STREAM Dream's escape was one of those great moments, where there was clearly a goal they were working towards that was scripted, but apart from that everyone just messed around. They were (mostly) all in character and any reactions to situations were in character, though beyond that they were all free to do whatever. To me that is the perfect balance between wanting to drive the plot forward and having casual streams. The one problem being the few people not in character and the continuous mentions of this being lore. But that was the only problem I had with that set of streams. SPOILER END Watching people like Q do huge machinimas and acted out scenes is amazing, but watching someone like Ranboo accidentally discover a stronghold on stream and immediately switch into character to react to it is something I might love even more. Both showcase the amazing talent on this server and both have their place on it. Now if only people would stop mentioning they were acting out a story and just do it, then it would be perfect /lh/nm. I love this server so much and have loved it for well over a year now. It's so unique and I'm glad to see it's still loved by many, including the creators

Funnily enough, I loved the smp even more when the lore became more involved. Now don’t get me wrong, I completely understand your point, and in some respects I agree, but the intense story, the building of characters, the theories, the improv, the community, I found absolutely incredible and I loved it so much. It was my new favourite thing and I became invested for pretty much the entire time from when I first found it to when the lore went on pause for a bit. It caused me to find so many new creators that I truly love and connected me with countless music artists, animators and even some of my IRL friends. And even though now there’s a lot more junk in the community like the heatwaves stuff and toxic stans, I really like to tune in to the good parts of the community, the parts that drew me in in the first place. It’s really sad that a lot of people who don’t know much about the dream smp just think it’s toxic and bad because they’ve only heard of the stans and things, but we can work to turn that around, using the new lore to spark up the excitement again. In the end I kind of just wanted to rant about my perspective of the smp and compare it to yours! If you’ve read through this whole thing, thank you and I hope you have an excellent day :D

In a way, I sort of wish there was a “split” aspect to the storyline. For example, if there was a fight between Dream and Tommy, there would be plans to continue the lore from each possible outcome. Tommy wins, Dream wins, or a Draw. It would be complicated, for sure, but in that scenario there would be nothing left to hold back the fights. It WOULD feel real, and we wouldn’t have bloopers.

I never really saw that spontaneous era of the DSMP. I started watching during the Manburg revolution since that’s when Techno joined, so I just saw a theater play. I’d say that the eggpire arc was probably the worst arc. Not because it wasn’t well done but because up until that point it was realistic, or as realistic as a child fighting with an anarchist pig in monarch outfit gets. If someone was told me about a nation like L’Manburg before I got into the DSMP I’d probably think it was real, cause it wasn’t all that unbelievable. It’s a great smp and I love the lore but you can only do so much with it. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Honestly I love both the scripted and unscripted lore/stories. Since the scripted lore isn’t word for word and instead just points and details to get to along the way, I’m not bothered by anything. The story is amazing but I actually really hope they input something like L’manburg again where they added aspects of the real world along with friends just having fun. The lore and storyline is pretty juicy and because of L’manburg it is what it is today. Either way, the DSMP has helped me and many other people through the past year(s) and will always have a place in my heart. ❤️

DUDE!! I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS YOU!! That video you mentioned, the dream smp war in 9 minutes, is the sole video that got me into the whole idea of smp's. I was a frequent dream watcher, and i was in a hamilton phase after seeing it for the first time in july 2020. On August 4th, 2020, i was introduced the the dream smp. And it was PERFECT for me. Minecraft, the game from my childhood, dream, a content creator i watched frequently, and two fellow theatre kids and fans of hamilton. it's really weird, but i've made and grown stronger with friends simply because of people that we don't know and don't know we exist. it makes so much sense that this video said my almost exactly. Thank you man, for setting me on this wild ride. respect.

I think also more recently, the creators are trying to branch out and make different content. They have huge audiences, and as the saying goes, don't put your eggs in one basket. I remember Techno mentioning that times just didn't match up. I started watching the Dream SMP from around about when Technoblade joined, and the beauty about watching from his perspective is that he is constantly breaking the fourth wall (enough for us to be relevant in lore :D) and joking around, not taking things too seriously. Another thing is that people have grinded to the max now. Netherite gear gets thrown around like its nothing, people have made massive superstructures, there is nothing left to pursue in terms of hanging out and chilling. Even Wadzee has come across that issue in his Hardcore world and he's done a sort of reset where he moved to a far off place and started from scratch. I hope being able to explore 1.18 allows the streamers to have good fun, and the fact that the portal didn't involve literally everyone makes me think they will reset the server for real at some point, though they might do it in 1.19 so they can have the underground cities and all.

I thought I was the only one that felt this way, but it turns out I was wrong. I think where it all went wrong is when L’Manberg got blown up. L’Manberg was iconic, with feelings attached to it and the centre of the story, and when it got destroyed, all of those things went down with it. I think they should’ve stopped at the peak, after the finale (when Tommy and tubbo got the discs back). SMP earth ended it at the peak as well.

As somebody who got invested in the Manburg vs Pogtopia war- even If I neve actually knew the SMP existed then, I can agree with a lot of your points, however, there are some which I also disagree with. Yes, I live for the times when the SMP just felt so raw and real, but I also love the planned out and scripted lore now. It makes it feel to me like there's been a special amount of time and effort put into the plot, and I love that feeling- it reminds me of a favourite Netflix series or something. I think that the reason the election and the Pogtopia vs L'manburg arc stood out to me so much, is that it gave elements of both. It gave the excitement of waiting to see a long waited for season of that awesome Netflix show, while still keeping the emotion and liveliness that the 'original server' so effortlessly provided. That's just my view on it though. :)
