A Truck Topper That FOLDS DOWN!

We needed a way to haul our new electric bikes in the back of our Toyota Tacoma but we didn't want them exposed to the elements. They were too tall to fit under our tonneau cover and we really didn't want to buy a hard topper. We purchased the Bestop Supertop 2 for our Tacoma. We love it! Made out of the canvas used on Jeeps, it give our truck bed protection from rain and sun and yet gives us the flexibility to put it down if we want to haul something larger.

What a fabulous idea to transport your bikes and useful for extra storage space, especially those bulky items. It’s nice how the panels can be removed for easy access. Very functional, versatile and it looks good too!

Excellent video as always Patrick. If I may offer 2 points from my days as a pleasure boater. 1. Those clear windows. When removed and stored, never fold them. Folds will cause creases and the window will eventually split on the crease. We were always told (by the canvas shop where I had the convertible top made.) to Roll the windows up to store them. Our Canvas roof would be wrapped around the roof support rods when removed from the boat and I would wrap the windows with in the wrapping of the roof cover. 2. Canvas always draws or shrinks in cold weather. When storing (outdoors) in cold weather, (the boat had snaps all the way around.) it is good to unsnap every other snap to let the canvas "pull" or shrink to prevent splitting. Old tenneau covers that were installed with snaps on pickup trucks, had to do the same with letting the material have "give" in it.

Thats really interesting we were just saying we would like a topper for our f-150 but it is way to expensive,
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney 4 года назад
We paid $877 with tax. The gentleman at the truck accessor shot told me a hard topper would start at $1500 and goes up from there. This was a much more affordable option plus we like that we can fold it down quickly if we need to haul something tall.

You answered my last question in your video, how to fold with the rear light. Didn't know it had a disconnect in the middle of the cable. Any concern about water getting into the wire connectors when driving with the top folded?
@DownsizingMakesCents

Looks pretty cool. Unfortunately we can’t use it while towing our fifth wheel. I want an electric bike. And I’m worried where to store it while traveling. This cover looks very well made. The break light is a great bonus. It does give you much more storage. I agree. No windows on the sides for privacy. Wow. It folds up easily. If you have RA, it might be hard to redoe the zippers. Good job with the review. Alice

I own the twill version of this top for my jeep soft top gladiator. I really like it a lot however I still do not understand why they designed the side panels with three zippers instead of just one. Zipping it up especially the first time is a pain in the neck.

Hi Patrick I am looking at getting a soft top cap for my F-250 if I can find one. The brand you have does not look like they make one for a F-250. Just wondering how you like it now that you have had it for a year. We want it for the same reason you got it. Our Lectric bikes. Happy camping.

We needed up trading the Tacoma in last summer on a Tundra. While we had it, I really liked it. What was nice about it was that you could fold it down fairly quickly if you wanted to haul something that would not fit under it. With a hard topper, those take time and muscles to get them off the truck.
@ws56c62
@ws56c62 2 года назад
Hello, great vid thank u! My question is, can fold the complete topper down with the side panels installed similar to the supper topper? I’ve been going back and forth between both products. We as well have ebikes that need protected from the elements as tow our vehicle behind our motorcoach. Thank you again.
@TravelswithDelaney

I don't have that truck anymore. We traded it for a Tundra last summer due to our camper upgrade. I can't remember if you had to take the sides out to fold it down or not.

Great video. We tow with an F150 and have the same bikes. Can you tell me which plastic totes you got to hold the bikes? I assume it makes it easier to load and move the bikes when folded? Also, can you temporarily fold the top over enough to load the bed without removing the window and sides? Thanks!

We bought the Sterilite 50 gallon totes at Walmart for $20 each. It is a lot easier to load and unload them. We just slide them out the back of the truck bed

This was timely! I'm still in the 'wannabe' stage but doing lots of looking and thinking. I had decided on an electric trike and planned on carrying it in the bed of the truck and getting a hard shell. But I hated the idea because of the weight! And not happy about the cost but would have bit the bullet. Didn't realize they made these soft toppers. Any idea what weight (ballpark of course)? I didn't see any info with a quick search of the website.
