A few notes for prospective buyers: the windows are hard to zip up, it leaks water in the corners, hard to see behind you so you’ll need to be good using side mirrors. Hard canopy works way better but it costs more and is a pain to remove, and if you’re just trying to keep stuff dry on trips it works pretty well. Wouldn’t sleep back there in the rain.
Hey dudes. 4 years late to the party but just want to say thank you for the video. Me and my wife were out in the driveway yelling at each other trying to figure this damn thing out. Seriously thank you for the video
Great video. I have the older version on my 09 Tacoma with the side windows. 3 years old and still no problems. It definitely helps to install or remove windows when it's warm out. I am removing it and installing on my new 22 Tacoma. I know the tailgate is a bit different but it should still fit but the rear bar might need to be modified
These are nice and for me the main advantage is hauling things that my hard-shell fiberglass top prevents me. However for camping and sleeping my carpeted shell has withstood storms and is as quiet inside as my van was. Its a matching color so it makes my truck look like an SUV. We recently bought one of those 12 volt inexpensive diesel heaters so I'm waiting for the winter to see how this performs. The bestop being black looks like a heat and dust magnet.
I literally just said the same thing. The softopper is way easier. I'm just going to go w that. Easier to take it off in the summer and put a rack and rtt on
The biggest con i found with mine is that they sent me 6 incorrect bolts. 2 were too short and 4 were the incorrect thread pitch, so I had to get my own at the hardware store. Not unusual from what I have seen, but they made it impossible to install without buying my own hardware. Check all the bolts before you begin your install. I did use your discount code BTW.
I know this is an old video, but I was wondering if there was a way to lock this soft topper. Pretty much anyone can unzip it and take whatever is in the bed.
This is one of the most thorough walk-throughs on the Bestop soft top. Great job! I have one question though, how do you attach the front window behind the cab when it’s very difficult to reach behind there? As it is now I have not been able to snap that one in.
Hi Jesse!!! I have always known you to be honest!!! Wow your code will definitely come in handy yess!! I’m so glad that they offer the option of a window I have to see what’s going on outside lololol!!! The zippers and Velcro make it easy to take off!!! It will definitely look cool on a Safari Lolol!!! Thank you Jesse for doing the breakdown!!! I definitely agree on measuring!!! Also on being cautious of what is stored inside!!! Thank you for telling us to use a microfiber cloth!!! to clean the window!!! I loved your video Jesse!!!! Xoxo Pam 💝♥️♥️💖
Looks pretty good But not my thing Would get the fiberglass top instead if i do need one What i wish they would make is a roll bar for the tacoma Just like what they have on the zr2
It’s from an older video I think this is the mount ur talking about it’s from Rago fabrications ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7o-q9P2UCF0.htmlsi=WJkicSpgkhkhqkoM
Hey man nice review. One question, is the front window of the bestop removable? For example if I have my dogs in the bed or a cooler can someone pet them through the window or reach in to get a drink? Thank you.
Would love to buy this but it’s so old technology for besttop. Coming from a Jeep all the new tops use a zipper less system. Really wish this top had no zippers as they suck to use as the top ages. Also the way the back bar is attached is a terrible design, wish it was attached to the rear window like you guys stated. It’s a cool design but should be have some zipperless features. Thanks for the videos
Nice review Jesse I picked up one a while back. I just wanted to let you know they dont make the tinted side windows for this newest version supertop 2. They're only available for the previous version which I didn't like (has a hump in the middle of the top). I asked when they will make it for the version 2 and haven't heard back yet.
Took me forever to choose between my 4runner or tacoma, chose the runner mainly cause I’m always carrying expensive equipment and even tho I really wanted a truck bed, the security just kinda threw me off a truck. The fact someone can just unzip and take whatever is in the bed made me choose the 4Runner. Not sure how secure hard shells are and sure it’s def more secure than a soft top but it’s still in the elements compared to the 4Runner where the equipment is still inside the vehicle where there is heat or A/C. Carrying around drum equipment, the wood of the shells of the drums can get warped or messed up from different types of weather. If it weren’t for that I would’ve went with the tacoma but perfectly happy I chose the 4Runner.
Yes but probably not all the way as the zipper is on the outside I use to use it as a camper as well I use to leave a crap just enough where I can stick my hand out to unzip it
@@JesseRizo that's great! After watching your vids I'm considering getting one...any thoughts or things you would consider beforehand? Things you wish you knew?
Yes I wish I would have purchase there cleaners that they sell for it so I’d suggest getting them lol just to preserve it for longer, Also right now I have a 10 percent off code from bestop if u want to use it www.bestop.com use code: JESSERIZOBESTOP that’ll give u almost $100 off
I bought one and fuck!! The top is so stiff and and zippers are not aligned. Is there away who to get the zippers aligned ? Should I take it off and reinstall it ?
My plan is to buy a new Tacoma and be a weekend warrior similar to yourself. I want to use this bestop as my shelter. My question is, if there’s any water leaks inside in case of rain anything?
That’s awesome my friend if you do plan on doing some good amount of roadding I do recommend getting a 4x4 And so it’s a yes and no so the camper itself is water proof but the rear tailgate on the tacomas there a slight crack so if rain is coming threw there hard yes it will come in or like when I wash my truck with the pressure washer I end up with water inside cuz it leaks threw those holes I’m trying to figure out a way to close that gap so it’s sealed
Hey jesse I know this isn't the truck you have any more but hopefully you see this message, was this truck a short bed or long bed ? I ask because I have a short bed so curious to know how this bestop will look on my truck.
@@JesseRizo ok cool thank you I appreciate the reply I haven't seen one in person so I'm hesitant to purchase and not like the way it looks but really like how it looks on your old truck so just wanted to verify the truck bed size👍
Jesse can you fold it up without removing the side panels completely? Thanks for doing this video. It Is very helpful in making a decision on one. Also, how does it hold up at highway speed?
I saw your review on the rightline bed tent , Wich one would you recommend for camping rightline or best top , I might do like once every two months maybe
If it’ll be that little and your not feeling the bestop look u can probably just do the right line tent for me I go almost every weekend and I love the look lol
i would just leave the bar completely off and put a blanket over my tailgate and let the bike hang over lol i never had a pad but it would be the same concept and thank you for the support
Hey Jesse how do you like using the camper when you went camping or did you prefer the truck bed tent such as did you wish it had windows, the height clearance, and the air circulation and temp comfort inside thanks
Hey and so far it’s great only 2 things if it’s raining super hard the tailgate on the tacomas has a small gap so water gets in threw there if it’s raining at a angle but I usually just put a towel there and it’s fine also if ur much taller then me I’m 5’5 anything taller you have to sleep at a angle or if u have the 6 foot bed you’d be fine and for that I just open up the side windows crack them open
I can't decide between this and the Softopper. I like how the rails on this are all black, and the overall look of it, but I really like the feature to cut a hole in the back of the softopper to let some air through for dogs. Wonder if I can find a way to modify this one, or just order a second front window flap I can cut a hole into.
Well with the bestop u can take the side windows off for the dogs that’s what I do that’s why I love this one whenever I have my dogs I just unzip the side windows
Can you tell me what the height within the topper itself is? I’m wanting to know if I can carry my mountain bike within the topper while using a tailgate pad.
Lol, And everything is from amazon here’s the link to the install video I made ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7o-q9P2UCF0.html in that video in the description box I left links to everything you’ll need
Thanks man I appreciate that a lot :)!, and honestly just it having the third brake light, the looks, the side window option if I wanted, and I wanted something different, there are cons to it just like everything else any product u go with but that’s mainly why, I do have a 10% discount code if u end up getting it’s JESSERIZOBESTOP
U welcome n thank you man I really appreciate that a lot :) stay tuned the day if I ever lol I’m hoping but the day I hit 15k friends on here I’ll be doing a giveaway 👍👍
It’s easier than it looks 😂 I give u that only good thing about this is you need to use the full space of ur truck u can fold it away alone unlike a hardshell which yes can be better but u need more than 1 person to remove it and it’s heavy
@@9thGenerationCajun I don't have a facebook but I will check the tundra forums I wonder if there is one available for my 2014 tundra CM. Thank you though!
Hey my friend so I got a reply from my contact over there they should start supplying in late summer but she said to she’ll will give me a better time from on Monday so I hope that helps 👍👍👍
Awesome video. Concise and thorough. Keep it up. You answered all of my questions about the topper. If you want to trick out the third brake light cable a little, you can get a panel mount for the SAE cable if you have somewhere back there to mount it. Like this....revzilla.com/motorcycle/tecmate-panel-mount-sae-adapter-cable. Amazon has different styles too. I used a few on my motorcycle for accessories.
DO NOT buy this top. I just spent 5 hrs on an install. Nothing fit right or matched up. Warmed the cloth for over 24 hrs before install. Had the whole thing on and was trying to move the fabric to get a window in and the bracket snapped. Top was ruined. The rear wind wo would seal to the tailgate either. I had Bestops on my Jeep’s and i hated them too. Not sure what possessed me t try this top on my Taco but it was a huge mistake and a lost day.
Bro it’s a soft top… if somebody wants into it, they are gonna use a knife… they aren’t gonna take the time to ensure your zippers are removed properly 😂🤣
My dude kept saying "its super easy" then proceed to take 200 difficult steps to get something basic done. I'll just stick with the softopper, much easier.
