I’ve had my Palma for about a month now, and I love it! It’s so nice to take to work with me so I can read on my breaks. And having all of my reading apps in one place on an ereader is fantastic!
@@fitdaniellereads I bought the white one and I love it! I hated having to choose between bringing my Nook or Kindle. Now I have both. I saw a video about how there’s a bit of a halo around the edge of the screen from the brightness and the white bezel. I’m glad I didn’t let that stop me from buying it. I never turn the brightness up high enough to notice. I put a mag safe popsocket on the case and it makes it perfect to hold.
It looks cute. I like the white one a lot. I would consider one in the future, refurbished or whenever the price goes down. I have my paperwhite and love that so I don’t feel an urgency to buy the boox palma right now
I typed out a long post and I think forgot to press 'comment' button before I left the site and came back to no comment. I'm such a ditz. Anyway, I'm so glad you got the Palma to review. I got one a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. It's so nice to have something I can hold in one hand and turn pages at the same time with the rocker buttons. I even look at some social media occasionally and the pictures are pretty good in e-ink if you set it on balanced. I went in the browser (warning: browser images are a bit slow occasionally for some reason, but everything else is super fast) and nabbed some iphone sized wallpaper pictures for my wallpaper, screensaver, and power off images. Just took awhile to find some with right image contrast suitable for e-ink. And a learning curve for saving to the device gallery but I figured it out finally. I don't have a case and did something I rarely ever do or recommend, I put a popsocket directly on my Palma (I know, bad) but it helps me grip it better, and I always need my popsockets. I'm so glad you got the Palma, Danielle. I love your review of it. :)
Dude!! I actually gasped AUDIBLY when you said that you put a Popsocket right onto your device. 😂 But honestly, just yesterday, I was thinking that I need to put a loop or something on mine bc the rocker button is in a little bit awkward of a position for me. I do love the Palma. I'm glad that you do, too. I haven't loaded any custom wallpapers or anything, but I'm going to. I'll report back when I do.
@@fitdaniellereads Yes I still kind of cringe thinking about the popsocket directly on my Palma but I got a really flat popsocket and it's the swappable version so I hopefully won't regret it like I did when I did it to my Paperwhite. LOL
Palma use case - You can read with one hand while you give your dog or cat scritches when they're on your lap or, if they're small enough, on your other arm.
😂 I hear ya!! It really is a bit spendy. If the small size and/or having all of your apps together aren't selling points for you, there's really no point . . . but it is REALLY fun. 😂

Yes!! I tested it to make sure. I was able to plug it into my computer and drag an MP3 directly into the music folder, and when I unplugged it from the computer, I was able to play it. SUPER easy!!
Thank you for your insightful first look at the Palma. In my quest to convert as much as possible to eink to help with my eye fatigue, I have settled on the Palma and SuperNote combo. I had the Kindle Scribe and loved it but couldn’t justify keeping three devices. I use the Palma to replace my phone apps (Words with Friends, Messenger, Telegram, Reddit, OneNote, Email, etc), when possible, and of course reading from Kindle and Libby. I have read several books on the Palma so far and find it fantastic. The screen is adequate and the navigation excellent. I use a Bible app daily and listen to audio through it and find the speakers to work well. I haven’t tried headphones through Bluetooth yet. I am new to Boox so I’m sure there are things I’m missing … just like the Naviball you mentioned .. I had no idea. I’m going to have to explore the Boox feature set more. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the video - im thinking about a palma but when i had boox devices in the past, it seemed like i had to tweak the refresh settings depending on which app i was using (kindle, pocket, neo reader, etc). Did you fiddle with the settings much after initial set up? I agree a stylus would be nice so its a portable note pad. My only complaint: you said 1975 was black and white TV era?! Dont make me feel old! Its more like the 60s for b/w tv. :)
I don’t have it in front of me right now, so I can’t check, but I think there is a setting inside the Kindle app that you have to set, too. You have to set that to turn pages with volume buttons and the set the Palma controls to do it, too.
I like the fact of downloading other apps but it's way to small for my taste. I want a kindle that is a little bigger than the signature. I hope color soon too Great review. 😊 thank you.

You can use the gestures for home screen. My setup is: left gesture - back button/ middle gesture - home/ right gesture -multitasking switcher Than the extra button i have: short press - full refresh/ double click - clear cache/ long press- sleep I absolutely loved your review. Thanks 🧡
Yes, but how many PPI is it? j/k you mentioned that a half-dozen times :). Couple things: Glad you got one, I've been looking at these for a few months, but just can't decide between this and a cheap $99 Kindle to carry around. I don't have any Kobo or other reader's books (why not just buy all from Kindle store?), but I guess I could try, perhaps when they are on sale in one place and not another? As for Manga, most manga has only a color splash page, but the rest of the pages are in black and white, so while I read most of it on my iPad Mini, it is still in color. I wonder if the Kindle app on the Palma offers a guided-reading mode where it enlarges just the part of the page being read. If so, that would be very nice. The problem with current color displays is that the "color" is really just a filter layer on top of the other display layers of the screen, so it tends to drastically reduce the contrast of the diplay, and the majority of the color options available today are only 150 ppi (over a 300 ppi b/w display). And for the firmware upgrade for pen support: I suppose it all depends on whether they are using the Carta 1200 with the digitizing layer included or not. The screen can be ordered with and without digitizer support, so I'm guessing for cost savings they are order the one sans that layer, which means no simple firmware upgrade. Boox do offer other Kindle-sized devices with this, so this could be an option. Sounds like you have the Remarkable and perhaps a SuperNote and Boox in the full-size device. Which do you prefer for notes and reading? I really look forward to seeing what you think after a month or so of use! Thank you.
Wait . . . did I forget to say that it's 300 PPI?!! 😂 I must admit that I get a little excited sometimes. Thank you for the manga info. I'm going to mess around with the Kindle app and see how it handles manga. As far as which device I prefer -- I LOVE the SuperNote for note-taking and as my daily driver to-do calendar-keeping device. For reading, I LOVE the Boox Note 3 C if I'm relaxing on the couch and want a bigger tablet to read on. It's a beautiful device.
It's way too expensive to get here in South Africa. At its price point, it's almost double the price of the kindle itself. Which in South Africa is 4K + due to the exchange rate between the Rand and the U. S. Dollar.
@@fitdaniellereads unfortunately, there is no second hand market in South Africa for kindles or other e-readers. Except perhaps Facebook, and I don't trust Facebook. I've been scammed on there before. Only other way is to save up for another kindle, which I need to do, since mine is full, and I don't have a laptop or PC to back it up with. Or else, I have to wait for Amazon to launch here in South Africa, which may possibly make a kindle cheaper.
My burning question for all you Paloma users is if it can run apps simultaneously? More specifically I use the timer feature in Bookmory every time I read whether it’s a physical book, e-book or audiobook. It is super easy for me to run that in the background on my phone And switch between whatever app I’m using to read and the timer. Is it possible to do that on the Palma? Also, if I want to tandem read an e-book and listen to the audiobook is that something I can run simultaneously? I am definitely tempted, but for the price, I am slightly skeptical, especially now that I know that the system currently runs on is eventually going to stop being supported. I don’t plan to use it for anything except for reading, no games, social media apps or RU-vid, Spotify, truly strictly reading but again the price is a bit high considering My Kindle signature cost maybe just around half of that.
Yes to all of your questions. I specifically tested all of these things, and they work on the Palma. I don’t think I’ve ever tandem read and listened on a device before, but the Palma turned pages for me while it was reading to me!!!!! That’s probably a normal feature when you’re listening to the audio book and following along in the book, but I didn’t expect it. I was REALLY excited. It doesn’t highlight the text as it’s reading (like I think some tablets do), but it did sync to where I had left off in the book and read it to me. It was also easy to run Bookmory in the background while I was reading. I agree with you 100% that the Palma is a bit spendy . . . I have NO defense for buying it except that I wanted it. 😂
It can't recognize a stylus. That's why I didn't buy it - That's the only feature that I really needed. Maybe the next generation will have a stylus, that's the only upgrade I need. I don't need or want it to ever be phone.
