Ruth Goodman, Alex Langlands, Peter "Fonz" Ginn and Hugh Beamish - under the supervision of Marc Meltonville of Hampton Court Palace's tudor kitchens - prepare and serve a tudor banquet at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. This was filmed in 2006, after "Tales from the Green Valley" but before "Victorian Farm".

I've seen Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm and Wartime Farm, but had never seen this particular programme until now. Thoroughly enjoying it. Ruth, Alex and Peter make a fantastic team and I really hope they do another programme together. And as for the adorable Peter Ginn. just look at his smile and listen to his laugh at 6:03! So sweet.

Amazing reenactment. Love these documentaries! I can't even imagine the backbreaking work they had to do every single day. Exciting to see how life was so long ago and yet it was a life of such strenuous work. Also, this home was handed down from the centuries and stayed in the family.

It amazing to think of how physically strong one would need to be to get the daily work done. People who would have very little food doing all that work. Its really something.

Actually they ate huge amounts of river salmon and multi grain breads. Their diet was often bland but peasant food had to fuel their physical life and turns out to be one of the most healthy periods of Englands history for the average person. This documentary focuses on rich people food. Many rich people today also have crappy diets. Fact is people didn't really live beyond sixty at most in this time period. Our lifestyle and life span is foreign to theirs pretty completely.

Interesting to see the origins in English history, of the band names of Humble Pie and Jethro Tull - a real person mentioned several times in other Tudor Farm videos.

just imagine eating in those ages *shudder* because the instruments they used weren't preciselly washed, rather, they were rinsed... and people couldn't wash their hands three hundred times like we do now in a modern kitchen, so bacteria was pretty much everywhere

8:53 - they're amazingly clean after all that labor! But this is great, thanks for posting it. Marvelous how it does make it real - and I have no doubt that people of that time would drop into ours almost as easily. I wonder how fast illiterate adults could become fully literate? It's probably varies widely.

When Astrix and obelisk came to Britain they introduced tea but I guess obelisk hunted all the wild boar. Yes I'm old. I love all these series especially war time farm. Wow the house has been in the family since 1590. Most people are just trying to teach their children to make their allowance last a week.

7:18 - And what did they do with those 5 udders? Here's a Tudor recipe: To Roast a Tongue or Udder. Parboil it first, then roast it. Stick 8 or 10 cloves about it, and baste it with butter and have some gravy and sweet sause. An udder eats well done in the same way.

So they talk about harvesting a boar, yet bring in the carcass of a domesticated pig-- all nicely boiled, bright and pink, not dark and red-- without a gunshot or stab wound to be seen. I don't mind, but don't lie to your audience. The domesticated pig tastes way better though...
