A driver was charged Monday with a road rage-enhanced felony charge, one of the first known prosecutions under a new Utah law that promises tougher penalties for road rage-related crimes.
@@microcolonel do you not realize how many variable you’re not accounting for by over specifying into just three of them? Why even say something like that? Seems like you have a heavy bias
That part. A lot of people own and especially carry guns? To feel empowered. Not to have "protection". That's the truth behind the people who carry guns. Sadly
Most people who carry wherever they go don't do it to be the "good guy with a gun". They do it for the feeling of power and social intimidation. I've learned to give open carry folks a very wide berth and pretty much remove myself from the area they are in, especiallyif there is alcohol involved. These people are always smack dab in the middle of a fight or dangerous scenario.
Had a guy brandish a gun on me while we were each driving our vehicles. He showed me his, we didn't show him ours. Luckily for him, we were calm and collected and disregarded his threat in that moment.
What does “second amendment guy” mean? You mean it applies to you alone? Or that you are only one who knows its correct interpretation (something that was written when muskets were considered adavnced weaponry). 😂😂😂
@@ohger1 I mean, I’m not anti-2A, but to be fair it does take at least one layer of interpretation to get from “militia” to _“individual_ functioning in the legal capacity of a militia”
@driveman6490 I was expecting an immature joke somewhere in the comments… only I assumed it would be from a teenager or twenty something y.o. I should have known better though. That’s the worst dad-like joke I’ve seen in a while. No offense.
@adammiller9179 I think I accidentally commented under the wrong thread. Didn't mean to address it to him. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry for the confusion. I'm not sure how it happened.
@@Ducky69247 Yes, that was appropriate. There are circumstances in which you need to defend your life or your family’s life. If someone breaks into my house and he’s pointing a gun at me, I will do the same in return. But someone in traffic just going slow or speeding up around you… absolutely not !
No, you’re right. this doesn’t come out of nowhere. Normal people may think “gee this guy went from 0 to 60 real fast!” But he didn’t just go from 0-60. because of his normal waking state of barely contained rage, the perpetrator walks around at 59 as his baseline, and all it takes is a hair out of place to trigger him. This guy probably has his family at home under a vice grip. I feel bad for his wife and kids, if he has any.
@robtaylor6806 Appearing calm doesn't mean you're not a moment away from snapping. There's this common misconception that you'll always just know before a person is pushed too far but the truth is you don't. It's the same thing with a lot of people who commit suicide and their family and friends didn't notice there was anything wrong, despite seeing them all the time. It's kind of easy to blame "society" rather than looking at what we can do to check in on the people in our lives.
Whenever my dad saw someone road raging and speeding around us, he'd say, "Good job getting there 30 seconds faster" And almost every time, we'd see the car again stuck in traffic right next to us 😂 Always makes me laugh. EDIT: Some people aren't understanding my comment, and they seem a little defensive in the comments... As I said I'm discussing road raging. Also known as aggressive, reckless drivers. ( As I mentioned above I would see "road raging AND speeding" So, if someone is road raging, by definition, they are also being a reckless and aggressive driver. This does not mean it goes the other way and that all aggressive and reckless drivers are road raging. The people I'm describing just so happen to fall under all three categories. Can't believe I had to clarify that for people, but it hurts when people don't take the time to think, so I'll do it for them 😂) Not someone who just wants to pass you. That's what the road is for. Not someone who loves cars and knows how to handle them properly around others. Those people aren't going to be aggressive or dangerous to other drivers just because they like fast cars. We are discussing the people who don't know how to handle a fast car but speed through traffic anyway. People who are very obviously not good drivers based on the handling of their vehicle and the disrespect they show to other drivers who are maintaining safe driving practices in traffic. I understand the idea of "road rage" might have a softer definition now for some people. But my definition of road rage has always been someone who is actively making driving near them more dangerous through their aggression and reckless acts with a vehicle. Hope that clears it up!
Lol I talk about this all the time. I used to be someone who was in a hurry and wanted everyone to drive faster and/or get outa my way. But then it dawned on me that even if I go an extra 5-10mph everywhere, what am I ACTUALLY saving!?? 15 seconds? 30 seconds? Lol and you’re so right, most of the time you just end up back with those same people you were so worried about passing 😂 But anyway, I completely changed the way I look at the road and driving. I now stay 100% calm. I don’t get mad if someone cuts me off or is driving slow or didn’t use their blinker to get over.. and that’s because WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES!! And we all make questionable decisions sometimes. Give people grace, most deserve it.
100% We even have stuff now like Google maps, GPS, etc so you can verify this all the time! I don't do it as much now cause I don't live in a CCW state, but I used to give a non-ironic totally friendly wave and smile to them when we get to the intersection!!
Your Dad was speaking FACTS. recently passed on left over double solid line. To sit at same.light Passes next person on right on shoulder to end up at next light. Then we pass police station. Never there when you want them to be.
It's true. Happens to me in Australia. They drive a $60K car like if they wreck it it's only going to cost $15 to replace, then they're beside you at the next traffic light.
Try being a woman in a minivan or station wagon. I speed a little most of the time and it's CONSTANT with drivers cutting me off bc they can't BEAR to have a minivan or SW in front of them...
As a trucker, you learn real fast to chill out because, every day you get cut off. So, relax folks the road is a rage in it's self. EXPECT it before you drive.
Dear Mr. Trucker: Some people have a thing where they can't understand what other people are doing. My husband for instance. He was driving down a steep grade in the slow lane. A trucker was in the fast lane trying to get ahead of our car so that he could get speed up and make the upcoming steep hill ahead of us in the slow lane. My hubby got very nervous and started muttering "must go faster, must go faster". He had no idea that the trucker was just trying to get up the hill. Some people don't understand the world around them. He was in numerous minor accidents and thank God finally gave up driving. There are all kinds out there for sure.
I've seen people cut off every day, including truck drivers. Dumb. Huge accident just today that shut off all lanes & trucker was killed. Still investigating(check report "Rte 3 Clifton,NJ accident". Pray the Lord protects you.
Mr. Trucker, I personally want to thank you for what you do. Farmers and Truckers make modern society possible. Pretty much everything we own was on the back of a truck at some point. Without Famers growing an abundance of food, and Truckers bringing that food to a warehouse in our neighborhoods (grocery store), most people wouldn't have a clue where to get their next meal. I sincerely pray that you stay safe and have a long, happy, and prosperous life.
Imagine having such a fragile ego that someone passing you on the road triggers you to absolutely ruin your own life and someone else's too. Oh brother! Grow up 40-year-old toddler.🤦🤦🤦
The only time I have had road rage, was when I’d be in my lil hatchback (2014 Nissan Versa Note) and the bigger cars would tail gate me w my kids in the back. I was rear ended a lot of times, cause folks just HAVE to tail gate. 😂 But, what I now do, is I turn my hazard lights whenever they start getting close, and turn them off once they’ve put a bit of distance. It mostly works and it’s a lot safer. If it doesn’t work, I’ll leave my hazards and slow down even more to see if they get my drift. And those who don’t get it even after that, I’ll stop the car while waiting on a red light, again, turn my hazards and wave them to just pass me. In NYC, we’re required to take defensive driving classes which not all states require. It helps a lot. I’ve known folks that don’t know simple rules of the road like, you have to use your hazards if you’re gonna stop in the middle of a road, or that you can’t use high-beams all the times and that it should only be used unless the conditions require such, and that’s a finable offense.
Idk if that other guys life is ruined, maybe scared him but to say that his life is in utter despair then that’s a stretch, I’m not defending the gun owner, just seems like a lot to say someone ruined your life because they pointed a gun at you and threatened your life. I mean the dude is still here and the felon is in jail.
People know themselves better than anyone could ever know them. If you know that you are capable of pulling out a gun not because your life‘s at risk, but because you’re pissed and want to make a point, do yourself and the world a favor and don’t ever get a gun. You know you don’t have the temperament to own one, so why bother getting one?
@@alissagonzales735 no the problem is they do know themselves and get it to make themselves feel tough and to intimidate people. Certainly not for self defense. But of course rarely does a gun owner have a gun for self defense. Its cause they want to shoot someone and hope someone will give them a possible maybe reason to do so. Truth is if you "need" it for self defense its going to be too late to use it. The days of challenging each other to a duel is long gone.
I had to use a LOT of self control today to not piss off an aggressive driver. Dude was camping in the far left lane which is only supposed to be used when actively passing someone….I was trying to pass someone, and he/she. (I couldn’t see the driver well) was blocking me from doing so by not moving over when he had room and there was nobody to pass. I flashed my lights a few times to signal him to move aa it’s illegal not to move over when someone is trying to pass a car when you’re in the left lane. So finally just had to go around to the right. Then the left lane looney sped up really fast and slowed down eventually and weaving in and out of traffic and letting me catch up and try to get me to race or engage with him so I just kept driving and didn’t fall to my want to be a jerk right back.
I’ve never understood why some get so upset, because someone passed them. If someone wants to go faster than you, let them go. Pull off if you have to. Stressing out over it, brake checking, or slowing down to “teach them a lesson” is just plain dumb and very juvenile.
And the guy is so insecure and egocentric that he couldn’t cope with some innocent teen just trying to work his way through traffic the best he can with zero malice afore thought. Sad beyond sad.
My suspicion -- drunk driving doesn't get caught unless it comes with other problems such as weaving, excessive braking, or dozing off. Road rage is a possible consequence of driving while intoxicated. Some people become more sociable and mellow with a drink, as is commonplace with people on the autistic spectrum. One drink (not enough for getting drunk) may do the trick. One is enough. But in general -- never drive drunk, tired, on drugs, or ANGRY!
Bet he wouldn’t have followed him if he didn’t have his gun. What a coward. Glad he caught a felony because if it sticks, he won’t be able to own one for either a solid decade or two, or the rest of his life.
@@GrandmaLoves2Scuba I'm so sorry this happened to you. I have been distressed before, just not when I was driving. Even then, I never considered cussing, much less pulling a gun and I am a gun owner!! Please, make certain that this crazy person gets the HELP, they OBVIOUSLY NEED.
My buddy was getting road raged on and he called the police and said he was pretty sure the guy shot at him with his kids in the car and they said it was probably just a blowout and it happens all the time. They wouldn't respond at all. He found a bullet hole in his car. Columbus OH PD is trash. Agree on accountability.Tjat will happen only if the family of a VIP is threatened. I'm not ever encouraging such a thing but just telling it like it is. Sad
Right! I was taught, and taught my children to drive like you own the car, NOT the road. I understand that some people get nervous, make wrong turns, get a little lost if they aren’t from the area, so I give them a pass. We’ll all get where we’re going eventually.
@@genespell4340 Yes as the population and subsequent ownership of cars has increased. It also has to do with changing social climates in America and elsewhere that trend towards individualism that encourages this selfishness
Not too long ago in Kearns, there was one lane closed out of 2 lanes. People were not "zipper merging" like they should and just piled up in one lane. We were about to go on to turn left at the traffic light, but some truck thought we were trying to "butt in line," and moved over in front of us to straddle both lanes. I wasn't driving, but I would have gone around him. After we go a little farther forward, I'm sure he realized he was insufferable after we ended up going a completely different direction that any of the cars "in line" and never made him "lose his space" or time.
Its the entitlement thats bread into the Utah culture. Folks feel entitled onfthe road where they can hide in their cars and hide behind guns. Its so juvenile to get mad when folks pass you driving. Ive had weapons pulled on me multiple times. Didnt even know I passed someone. I dont pay attention to such childish things only to be chased and drawn on. Smh.
I lived in Utah for over 30 years and now I live in Washington. It’s the same out here. It’s not a Utah thing. It’s people in general. Lots of people are on edge. I’d venture to guess it’s not one singular thing (to many things to name here) Things are tough all over and people are showing it.

Applauding the young man who maintained his cool and could articulately give his story to the news. Bravo for pursuing this interaction with law enforcement. What a fright!!
As a resident of Utah, living along the Wasatch Front, I can say with a surety that far too many Utah drivers brains have fallen right out of their asses. Road rage is all too common and it seems a daily occurrence in the news that some hothead pulled a gun or caused an accident because they can’t keep their egos and anger in check.
I live in Florida and I carry. When you carry you absolutely give up your right to express your negative opinion openly. When you do a the situation escalates then you’ve actually created the situation that you may need to defend yourself against. That’s not going to go well later.
You know this is absolutely scary and ridiculous. Just because you passed someone. I don't understand how people can do this. Or be this angry over being passed.
16-30 year olds who are raised right wouldn't do this. This guy has gotten away with it for a long time or he wouldn't be so comfortable doing it. Hes 41. Def not the 1st time.

We weren't there to see how that kid was driving either! There's 2 sides to every story folks, y'all forget that... No he shouldn't have pulled a gun, BUT WE DONT KNOW THE OTHER SIDE!!!!!
@@4fNReal- something doesn’t add up about the kids story. He says he sped up to cut someone off, and that another truck agead thought he was trying to get ahead of him? But he DID get ahead of him, if the “suspect” was able to follow him. That means what really happened is the kid sped up and cutoff two cars including the “suspect,” probably dangerously and almost caused an accident angering the other driver. I wasn’t there but I’d be willing to bet after the guy gave him the finger the kid did something back. Still no reason to pull a weapon like that, but this kid is trying to make himself sound so innocent it doesn’t make sense.
It could already be prosecuted, it is aggravated assault. All the new law did was enhance the charge which would mean potentially more jail time if convicted.
That truck driver was an a******! I support the right to carry, HOWEVER, this should be for protection only, not to threaten others because of a traffic incident! That truck driver needs his gun license revoked maybe permanently!
How is it that they just now put this Law on the books ? You would think that someone pointing a gun at a stranger without having their life threatened would be a felony for MANY years ?
You're not very bright. Aggravated assault? Where is the assault? The government loves followers like you. By what you just laid out, I would suppose that hundreds of thousands of police should have that charge then.
Mark. It was illegal. The new law exists as a way of augmenting the charge of brandishing a deadly weapon as SPECIFICALLY being a part of road rage. That let's them do stuff like upgrade potential misdemeanors to felonies if they're bad enough or to make punishments harsher for it.
I implore you to start doing some of your own research because stuff like this is really easy to find out if you just Google something instead of being ignorant.
@@dendriller Isn’t that just common sense!? They ALWAYS confiscate the weapon if it’s part of a crime. Not only that, but a lot of times they do when you get charged with a felony.
@@dendriller This is a short form video, not a thorough report. Felony aggravated assault is a big deal. The weapon would have been seized as evidence and if the defendant gets bail, he'll probably have all of his weapons taken temporarily as a condition of bail.

Even if his felony is ever expunged or pardoned by the governor or president he still will never legally own a firearm. Until he has been prosecuted he is still innocent until presumed guilty in a court of law. Hopefully Mr. Curtis shows up to court and testifies against Mr. Lewis and a jury finds him guilty so he never has the opportunity to do it again.
Apparently he DID pass both of them. How else could the guy be in a position to follow him? Read between the lines people. There's always more to the story. Especially on a RU-vid short.
The best advice I received for dangerous situations like road rage and being followed is to change course and drive to the closest police station. So grateful that this young man didn't lose his life that day. I hope it's not too scarring for him. That's a very scary thing to go through.
Same. If you're being tailed then get to the nearest police station or better yet, call the authorities immediately - doesn't matter that you're driving when your life could be on the line.

Years ago, in a fit of road rage, my dad got out of his car with a machete and ran up to another driver who, luckily, had started to drive off at that point. My mother was with him, which is how I learned about the incident. My dad had a temper; still, I was shocked upon hearing what he'd done. To my knowledge, he had never actually physically assaulted anyone in his life. I have no idea why he had a machete in his car. Maybe, it is best not to know.
Here where I live in southern Arizona road rage is a huge problem. It's a rare drive on the road that I don't see it along with speeding, following too close, or distracted driving. Our local courts are dealing with many cases of it with a few that involve homicides.
