This guy got teased a lot as a kid, because he sang a lot in school. He had the last laugh, when this song was playing on the radio everywhere. It peaked at #8, and spent a whopping 15 weeks at #1 on the modern rock chart.

I have one question , why didn’t it stick here in America. Remember being very upset that no more if their stuff was ever played on the radio like roller, I like to rock or gypsy queen ( which came off the same album ) . I don’t understand it to this day. These guys really rocked out, they should’ve been just as popular here as they were in canada

I’ve recently started to rediscover The Cardigans. I only heard their hits, but realized they have a lot of good music. Garbage is another band I did the same thing for a few years ago. Both are great and should have at least one listen to. I would recommend My Favorite Game by The Cardigans, I think they would like the upbeat tempo.

@christopherheilgeist5236
@christopherheilgeist5236 10 месяцев назад
Yes, they made a lot more songs, in fact they've released four more albums since Sex and Candy. In my opinion many of the songs are better than this one. They're not really one hit wonders. Their first record went platinum, four songs from that album got radio play and two of those charted (Sex & Candy, Saint Joe on the School Bus, Poppies, and Sherry Fraser). The second album was just as good as the first but had some problems because of some controversy with the cover art. (Basically, the studio took someone else's art and slapped it on the album cover without the knowledge of the band.) None the less, one of the songs off that album charted as well (It's Saturday). They also have songs on both the Cruel Intention, and Jay and Silent Bod Strike Back soundtracks. I would definitely recommend giving at least their first two albums a listen. Saint Joe On the School Bus, The Cloaking Robe of Elvenkind, and Secret Squirrel are some of my favorites. Poppies is fun too. @@butterflykisses9185

Now that you done this song, you should follow up with a song by Beck called Loser!! It’s a very similar vibe and a very popular song. Pro tip… the chorus might sound English, but it’s Spanish. Me and two friends used to sing what we thought were the English lyrics, until our Spanish speaking friend laughed at us so hard she couldn’t breathe. After that we just did it for the laughs.

The 90s alternative rock scene was just huge!!! Lots of great songs came out during that time! Some harder, some softer and melodic, and some extremely creative and groovy like this one! So much music during that era! While the 80s were unbeatable, the 90s really gave it a run for it's money!

I don't have another song by this group (although I always did like the pace, drums & his voice in this). I DO have another 90s song that I think you will both really like. It has a COMPLETELY different vibe from this one - more uptempo & playful. I recommend - Oh Carolina by Shaggy. (Do the video with it which I think you will both really like too.) This is still one of my favourites. Shaggy did this song where he puts on a strong accent from his original culture because it had always been enjoyed by his U.S. army brothers. His Shaggy persona is different from his own everyday one (which is the one that comes out more in the video.)

Im an 80s baby, and grew up throughout the 90s and hit my teens in year 2000. The 90s was without a doubt the best of last decades! I remember also seeing this song when they first showed it on MTV TRL and us all having a fit over it. 90s is the best no doubt! Im talking not only some of the best music for many different genres like pop, soft, rock, hard rock, alternive rock, R&B, and of course country music. Im a southern belle from Alabama and I find myself often returning to the 90s country back when it sounded more like country and the legends came from that era like Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, and so many others. And then you have some of the greatest films from the 90s that keeps you coming back to them. Even folks 40 years older than me say the 90s was the last best decade. But Ive never heard anybody resist the 90s or not like it. Usually it ensnares people of all ages. Even if they didn't actually get to experience as some of us 80s babys or older did. I find more reactors I want to watch just by looking up 90s music. Cause its the most popular era no doubt! But check out older eras as well. Im all about some 50s and 60s music too! But I really want to see yall react to alot of Matchbox 20. Rob Thomas is a legend and I had the hugest crush on him. He was so unique! I dont know a single person who ever heard him sing and didnt like him. If they dont like him, they have no muaical taste at all!

Some more 90s rock acts: Queens of the stone age - no one knows, my god is the sun, the way you used to do, the evil has landed, little sister; Garbage - stupid girl, only happy when it rains, queer, I think I’m paranoid, #1 crush, push it, special; Beck - loser, where it’s at, devil’s haircut, new pollution, lost cause, think I’m in love, saw lightning; Everclear - wonderful, I will buy you a new life, am radio, father of mine; Cake - the distance, never there, I will survive, love you madly, short skirt/long jacket; Liz phair - divorce song, supernova, whip-smart, polyester bride; Semisonic - f.n.t.; Mighty, mighty, bosstones (ska punk) - the impression that I get, the rascal king, royal oil, so sad to say; Dandy warhols - bohemian like you, we used to be friends; Modest mouse - float on; Feist - 1234

The 90s music was such a shake-up. I mean, going from pure metal, hair bands, and the upbeat sounds of the 80s. The 90s gave you the rise of grunge and alternative bands that didn't always fit any one genre, but this song, I remember the moodiness of it and the lyrics to me being so odd, but also catchy as it was played on the radio continually! There were upbeat sounding bands still like The Spin Doctors. Green Day became my jam after high school!

I've mentioned this song before, and I can't tell if I'm being annoying suggesting it again, or if you get so many comments this is what I should do haha! Tom Jones singing Van Morrison's 'I'm Not Feeling It Anymore'. Really fun and upbeat with a good message. You'll love it. This one hit wonder was always just kind of cool. The edgy title, the strange lyrics, the overall sound. It's just.. cool. Great choice!

This is a favorite of mine in its simplicity. If you’re just learning to play guitar or as in my case, you don’t have a very rangy voice, this is a great song to play.

I always thought the 90s was a great time for Alternative, NuMetal and Grunge genres. So much great music and bands; many are still around too. I would definitely suggest Korn. You guys have heard other NuMetal bands like System Of A Down and Linkin Park but Korn was really the one that began NuMetal. Please check them out if you can. Start at the start with "Blind" and definitely "Freak On A Leash", one of my favorites. Great music video too. 😎👍

I was a college freshman when this song came out and danggggg was it popular. I love it. It sounds so quintessentially 90s but like, specifically 1996-1998 where a lot of the music (that I liked, at least) was kind of shoe-gazey and downtempo. I’m not a music scholar but I feel like it was a follow up to grunge whereas stuff like the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys was the anti-grunge. “There she was, in platform double suede…like disco lemonade” gives you an insight into how much we idolized the 70s in late 90s fashion: Platforms, flares, suede, baby tees… so much of what people think of as iconic 90s fashion was a throwback to the 70s. Grunge was kind of its own thing but I feel like we incorporated style from the 50s, 60s and 70s into that as well.

This would make most people lists for top one hit wonders of the 90s. A great 90s band to check out is Toad The Wet Sprocket. Start with “All I Want”, then “Good Intentions” and “Something’s Always Wrong.”

Here in Australia, there's a longstanding music video show, Rage. On weekend mornings they play the top 50 singles, and I remember this one all the more because my big sister taped the show one week. Other big sons from then off the top of my head are Brick by Ben Folds Five (Underground is a fun one of theirs too), Teardrop by Massive Attack, through to Ghetto Superstar and all sorts of songs!
