Hi Martin and indeed, a nice easy job to begin with but an essential one before I get the engine started. Hopefully today I can raise that front suspension as long as it doesn’t pee down with rain - again! 😂. Then sort the carburettors out and overhaul them plus the electrics to start it, exciting times! Cheers for now mate. …………Graham
He he, yes it was a little difficult bit difficult at times Rob but got there in the end without dropping anything! 😂😂. Having oil leaks at this stage was my biggest nightmare as that would have involved a lot of work but luckily not a drop to be seen thank goodness. 👍🏻. Cheers for now my friend. ………..Graham
Thanks David, this is something I wanted to do since last year but never got round to it, glad I’ve done it now though and the great thing is I’ve not got any leaks either - pleased with that! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now. …………Graham
These shed projects seem like they are just a pile of bits forever, but once the engine starts, they become a living thing. You are wise to be focused on getting it running. Cheers
Hi and thanks for the comment. I guess all cars are a pile of bits originally but you’re right, when they’ve come together and the engine starts then they become a whole thing. It’s in my nature to be focussed on one thing at a time, I can’t stand going from one job to another and not completing anything - hence me wanting to get that engine started before I do anything else. Cheers for now. ………….Graham
Graham if was buying your car I would have total confidence that the engine was built to a high standard . And I have built plenty over the years mate.
Hi again David and that’s very kind of you to say, if when I eventually get it fired up and it goes bang then it wasn’t for the case of trying - let’s hope that doesn’t happen though! 😂😂. Cheers mate. ………….Graham
I was starting to wonder what was happening with the car Graham but I see now you were playing trains in the winter lol ,pulling the cover off I was expecting mice had taken residence but thankfully not. Glad your tinkering again and I'm surprised you didn't go for the electronic ignition and gone old school with points ignition nice.
Hi Brian and thanks for the comment mate. I have to admit that when I took the cover off I was expecting to see some form of mice nest in there but no, it was perfectly clean on the outside as well as the inside so that was a result! Done a fair bit of work on it last week and will do some more this week once I have a few deliveries arrive, my aim is to get that motor started up some time in August so that will be a bit nerve racking! Yep, points to begin with so I can get the timing perfect and then electronic ignition after that, you have to get the timing correct first anyway before fitting electronic ignition so it makes sense to do it this way. Cheers for now. …………Graham
Good progress Graham. Are you keeping the old school distributor and points or do you intend to upscale the technology to electronic ignition? Do you possess a strobe light to facilitate fine adjustment of the timing? Keep up the good work, my friend. Best, Jason.
Hi Jason and thanks for the comment. I will keep it old school initially while I set up the timing so points to begin with then I will swap it out for electronic ignition once I have it running to how I want it. Just my way of working that’s all. Yes, I do have a strobe light which I will use throughout the timing process - I need to get it running first though! 😂😂. Cheers for now. ………….Graham
