Thank you to every veteran. My dad served in Vietnam. He never talked about it until he started talking to others he was with over there. Less than 20 years ago. He was treated just like Gary was. He went over in the draft so a brother got to come home.

I feel basically guilty every time someone thanks me for my service, because of how those who fought that particular war were treated. It has changed, which is a good thing. My dad did two tours with the air national guard as a pilot deployed to Vietnam, and never said more than a few words about it until his last couple of weeks on this planet. He finally opened up. He said he was shot down and they were trying to rescue him, as the NVA was trying to capture him, he was “short” meaning due to go home, and luckily, he made it. A month later, he was back at Pan Am, like nothing happened. But nobody talked about it, and a lot of shade was thrown his way. The old timers who flew in WWII called him a loser because we surely were not going to win, those who did go through it couldn’t talk about it, and those who didn’t despised you. My mom and dad tried to do a life in Thailand the 1st time he deployed. Moved the kids over, whole 9 yards. It was before my time. But my dad couldn’t live both lives. My mom packed up the kids and went home. He never could sleep in the same room with anyone after Vietnam. It’s a miracle I was conceived.

I'm a vet, I've served in Afghanistan twice and Iraq once and i would love to be able to have a chance to come out and work a week on the pig farm. I've always had a dream to run and operate a diary or a hog farm and well. being 29 years old now. that dream has come to pass unfortunately but, I'd love the chance to come out and see what i'd be like to work on a pig farm.

Big difference between working hogs Dairy , Beef and crop. No doubt someone would love to have you hang out for a little bit to see if you’re interested. I still own a little bit of ground with no livestock or crop but still enjoy it just no risk etc. also disable dude early 60s.

Thanks for your service. Also Kids need to do chores even if it's just getting the mail etc it helps them to learn responsiblity and develope a work ethic. We either had to play sports or get a job. I did both football and track and worked for my Uncles Const. company on the weekends.

While I do appreciate the effort, time, and questions put into this interview, I just wanted to give a bit of end-user feedback -- The questions were great, and I'm happy that he was so open in sharing his story, but it was very annoying hearing one of the interviewers just saying "Yeah.." .. "..Yup" "Yeah.." .. "..Yup" .. "..Yup" "Yeah.." ..Just let the man tell his story without any interruptions; you giving a positive affirmation to a statement he made, at the end of every sentence, is just excessive pointless noise. All-in-all, a great job done by both parties, and I really appreciate his willingness to share his experiences. Many thanks to all.

Both my grandpas went to war. One to the eastern front (Soviet Union), on to the Atlantic wall (France). Since they both died before I could talk, I don't know if they killed civillians or Soviet / American / British / Canadian soldiers, or noone at all. Should I praise them as heros and thank them for their service, aswell? The way we Germans handle our bad past differs so much from how Americans do.
