I don't know why I pictured an old big chubby grizzled face dude with one of those conductor hats instead of two millinionals. Hats off to you bro. Lot of respect comes with that job..I know you guys earned it .
YStoyanov yeah, but in Czech and Slovakia we use different labeling. 68E is what they are called in the manufacture but on railway they are called 242 or by its nickname “plecháč”.
Very cool video! A couple of questions: Why are there 2 people in the cabin? Has it got something to do with the shifts? And why do you guys stop some moments, then look backwards and accelerate after that? Did you guys had to stop for a red signal? Thanks again!
Not a machinist, so don't take my words for 100% truth, but the left one is a helper and the right one is the train driver. As far as I can understand if there is anything needed (eg for maneuvers or coupling wagons) the left goes down and does the job. The left also has right to drive the train, so they actually don't have any difference in their qualification. When its stopped they look back, because when the train is a passenger one, they have to wait for a signal from the station master and the train conductors. The looking back thing is just for better visibility, I guess.
There are two people because although it didn't happen in this video but they usually get stopped and robbed so it's better to have two up front. You don't see the other six behind camera in full tactical gear. And they stop to pick up the nuclear fuel that gets dropped by helicopter. They look back to make sure helicopter is clear..
If you thing this is strange look on the cab of som czechoslovakian trains like E499 E479 and more this is also an czechoslovakian locomotive but for 25 kV
Widyka Canacantya it controls a rotary switch that switches different transformer windings, thus increasing or decreasing the voltage going to the motors
I have no clue, maybe the horn was just to alert that train is coming, as I did't see a sign that says "use the horn". And he puts his head out of the window in order to see a sign from the train conductor which means that everybody is on board.
Old e-locomotives have ''gears'' of electricity, something like this, it's not a gear box. When he is moving the speed adjuster, he adds or decreases ''gears''. +/- 1 gear means more/less electricity to the traction motors. He is moving the adjuster up and down to find the perfect ''gear'' for the traction motors, in order not to exceed the speed limit. The adjuster have 3 positions: decrease, hold, advance. At 5:19, the adjuster is on ''hold'' position, then, he moves it to ''advance'' for one second (he adds a ''gear''), then, back to ''hold'' (to hold the ''gear'' he just added + the previous he added when he accelerated).
at 7:08 he starts the train moving forward, but there are another 10 sec before any of the two in that steering house looks forward. I'm thinking of that poor child who might have ran in to the track. My tought is that he should at least had a warning for this.
