There's a problem in the chocolate-box village of Bitterley in Shropshire. The village's school and cottages cluster prettily around the green. But the village church and the manor house lie more than half a mile away, on the other side of a lumpy, bumpy empty field.

What a wonderful show. Time team has a strange placating effect on me. Whenever I am going through a rough time I find myself watching it. I don’t know what it is exactly but it’s a visual sedative.

It MAY be the voice and overall manner of speach of the shows host. I don't know. I do know that whatever I watch on youtube, I don't have to leave the thing playing for long before RU-vid decides I want to watch Timeteam. They seem to be right, as I've watched several episodes without any intention of sitting all of the way through. Not sure how I feel about that.

"But there's still no pub in the village." Poor Phil, lol! He handles even *the worst* news like a trooper!!😂🤣 I LOVED how the whole village turned out to help!- The little girl in the blue t-shirt is surely a futre archaeologist!👍🏻 So cute! I would LOVE to own a coin from 1902, how cool is that??!!👌🏻 And Alex Langlands, what a GREAT addition!!👍🏻 I watched all of his series, such as Tudor Farm, he's brilliant! Hi to Raksha & Mick too! I absolutely loved the inclusion of locals from kids to seniors, really lovely to see!👏🏻💖 And you *KNOW* you are loved when your co-workers and friends build you your own mini outdoor pub, "The Phil's Head", omg, brilliant guys!!🏆👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻😂 I have loved all the Time Team episodes over many many years, but there was a real homey family feel to this one that really appealed to me. And of course Phil always rocks, always a great laugh!👍🏻🤗 And Welcome Alex, wonderful to see you again!!🤗💖 Absolutely stand out episode everyone!🏅 🤗💖🌈🇨🇦☮️

I am writing from Estonia. Firstly I thank you for all the most interesting work you have done! You have educated people. It is most important! Bad side is, that robbers of sites have also learned. You have speeded up understanding history... and finding it. I am from Estonia... and we have so very much violent digs! Robbers get somehow better... cause of knowhow, and this is sad. Too sad. They dig out our rich history from times of vikings and even more! But i hope, that there has been more good than bad. I loved the show. Sincerely.

While this isn't a bad TT episode (well none of them are really that) I do miss the older team. I miss the expertise that Carenza, Helen and Stewart all brought to the show. While Mary-Ann and Alex may have done other excellent shows, they somehow never fit in on TT. That may not have been their own fault, I couldn't say, but rather what roles they were asked to fill in a show already so well established.

How would a field like the one around this manor house have escaped cultivation for wheat during World War II? And would plowing have unearthed the remains of the earlier field boundary walls since the stones seem to be so close to the surface?

Yes, the show was done over three days to generate interest, excitement, to show progress, and of course, budget concerns. As well, the Time Team members all had day jobs to contend with.
@MelissaThompson432
@MelissaThompson432 4 года назад
And because, as Mick pointed out when he and Tim were tossing around ideas, modern archaeology tends to be a quick in-and-out. Unless there's some reason why not, finds tend to be left in the ground and reburied against the day when technology is better. Modern archaeologists remove thing that are about to be destroyed, like things buried in dunes next to the sea, or remains brought up by badgers in places like Barrow Clump. Other than that, they look at it, determine what's there and what needs to be done about it, throw the dirt back, and go home. Practically speaking, archaeologists are hired consultants, and the less they cost, the better their contractee likes it....
@valeriejohnson5283
@valeriejohnson5283 4 года назад
They all have other jobs during the week. Most are professors. Tony is an actor among other things. If they find a lot of history during the 3 days, other Archeologist come in and excavate the rest.

Q - If you excavate a village suspected of being abandoned due to plague, do you, as an archaeology team, take measures to protect against exposure to dormant plague bacteria on or near the buried medieval structures?
@georgedorn1022
@georgedorn1022 3 года назад
As I understand it, the bacteria has the potential to survive in the soil for a number but of years but not for centuries. With modern health and safety legislation, precautions would have been taken if there was considered to be any sort of risk. You can even excavate the remains of plague victims safely with no additional measures. Incidentally, as Mick explains during this episode, it is now thought that very few villages were abandoned primarily due to plague.
