My dog and I were there at least once a week between 2003-2008, when we lived in Santa Rosa, country seat of Sonoma. Dillon Beach is actually just inside the Marin County line. Pt Reyes is just across the way, to the south, so that is Tomales Bay. Barnacles and sea stars in the tide pool mounds, and often brightly colored starfish. It was only $5 per car any day of the week back then; I went swimming, despite the cold water...just so nice. The little store is charming and the cafe the perfect place to have a nice bite, too.
Sounds like great memories! Thank you for sharing. I haven't gone back to Dillon Beach lately....but I will soon. With the price of gas and the price of parking...well, let's just say the times have changed! Thanks for watching and commenting.
How did I miss this one?! What a beautiful beach! And all those folks paying $10. to $20. OMG, I hope that's by the CAR! Very cool, all those little tide pools. I think those sea anemones are also called "Sea Flowers" and when covered by water they have lots of little "tentacles" that wave in the water to catch tiny things that they consume.
Ah, love the lesson on "Sea Flowers!" Thank you! This is the beach I would bring Duke to for an off-leash run early Sunday mornings....it was his favorite place to run, and chase the birds. The admission fee has gone up drastically since then ! Yes, that fee is by the car load....imagine what a big family's expense on the weekend would be if it was per person! Yikes!
Beautiful beach! So ... how does a large beach like this one become "privately-owned"??? Hey, did LEE make a cameo appearance?? :-D The shellfish on that rock are mussels and the greenish, spongy things are sea anemones. You must have seen lots of tide pools on that beach. I love tide pools. Thanks for the fun video! PS - Thanks for warning us about the $10 entrance fee.
Great comment! Thank you for letting me know about the mussels and sea anemones; I appreciate that! No, that metal-detector was not Lee, haha! Sorry, I don't know how the ownership works....I just know that's the way it is....and it's $20. for day use on the weekends. If you go, check the tide charts...and go at low tide and enjoy those tide pools!
