I love this so much, after hearing about Mr. Monfre's class in the Q and A video. I remember in high school sharing vlogbrother videos to teachers and they were so impressed. I worked at the local PBS station in Chicago and loved the ideas and heard of the creativity of the digital PBS stem. PBS has a close place in my part, from learning English to Sesame Street to helping on an actual production. Mike and team keep being awesome and I'll keep spreading the word!

mr. monfre is probably the best example of someone who doesn't sound how he looks. this is not negative just an intriguing observation.

Director's Note: This is Andrew, the director of Idea Channel and I just wanted to explain. Since all the students needed permission slips to be on film, Mr. Monfre created a cover story that a "friend with a camera and sound equipment" was coming to their class to film a video response. They had no idea that I was in any way related to Idea Channel and they had no idea that Mike would be there :).

This was inspirational to watch. I think one of the biggest challenges of teaching is helping students apply what they are being taught to the real world. As a teacher myself, I have to applaud Mr Monfre for his initiative to motivate and encourage students using the idea channel.

That was so awesome. Thanks to Mike and Mr. Monfre for understanding that students are fully engaged when they are given the tools and able to make them relavent to their own lives. When philosophy is applied to pop culture, it stops being about long dead thinkers and becomes more about the students becoming critical and analytical thinkers. Way to go.

One of the huge reasons I like RU-vid is the viewer-creator interaction ... being able to communicate directly with the people who produce the content we watch. That you take the time and effort to actually go visit viewers and spend time with them is mind-blowing! Thank you for doing this :)

As an educational media maker & curator who spends much of my time encouraging teachers to use videos as a teaching & learning tool, this is gold to me. Mike & Idea Channel team, you ROCK as always.

1. Great class idea to implement pop culture and discussion together. A infotainment lesson plan that has multimedia enhancement. Some classes are boring so a good teacher can make a great class just from ideas just like this. 2. Like that a show actually offers the fans a hand back to them. Not often a show will say thanks to its fans and barely any will travel to a location in the Midwest to greet its fan base. Both Idea channel and that class are brilliant!

How great! I've always enjoyed the comments from Mr. Monfre's class so it was fun to put faces to that interesting, thoughtful commentary. To the girl who likes Justin Beiber: In jr.high school I liked New Kids on the Block which my English teacher (by far my best teacher) found endlessly amusing and look at Donnie Walberg now (he was always my favorite)! He's a serious actor. So persevere, darling!

Mike, As a recent transplant from public education to law/politics, seeing you do this helps to rekindle my flame and keep my eye on the prize. Your contributions to education are spectacular and I can't wait to see how this, and similar channels will influence the future of education. Which brings up a big question: With the increasingly international nature of communication, how do you think sites like RU-vid and, perhaps even Reddit, will influence public education in the next ten years?

Dude, what I love about this is everything I loved about Bill Nye, beakman's world, and nova specials when I was in high school (about 8 years ago). Good, quality programming, explaining how the world works or thinks or acts in an everyday way to engaged kids. The only difference is that it is now a 2 way street. You deliver content, the high school students discuss the content, they reply back and a dialogue has begun. This is wonderful. Way to go, friend!
