@@EyeDriveATruck Yeah it was ment to buy silly comment but think about this: Why does he have a need to impress us? Even if he has a personal need to impress for some reason, he will pray and try to overcome that feeling, because thats exactly what these monks spent their whole life doing. They are commited to the purpose and their faith. If you look at his facial expresions and in my opinion he doesnt seem like he is trying to impress or boast about his faith. Of course he mentions an extreme example of devotion by not visiting his father in his deathbed, because thats the whole point of the interview and their visit there. Aside from personal reason to impress, these monks dont need to propagate their faith to get more people to join them or found their religion or whatever modern religions do. They went there to pray and meditate on their faith. Some monks there live alone in small cabines in the woods and not in the big monasteries.
As an Orthodox Christian, I had the opportunity to visit Mt. Athos and planned to stay for only a day. I ended up staying for three days. It is incredibly peaceful and there are almost always some sort of prayers inside the monasteries. I am looking forward to going to Mt. Athos next time I visit Europe and hope to stay for at least a week. I would encourage any Orthodox Christian to visit this place at least once in their life because it is quite an experience.
1. If you are an Orthodox Christian (no matter which Eastern Orthodox denomination you are), go to your local Orthodox Church priest/bishop, ask to fill out your personal information, make sure you bring your passport with you too and they should be able to get all the necessary paperwork ready. 2. Once you have the paperwork ready and are in Greece near Mount Athos, you have to visit the Mount Athos administrative office located near the boat that carries people and supplies to Mount Athos. They will require that you show your passport in order to get the previously ready government permission to get not only on the boat ferry, but also on Mount Athos itself. 3. Buy the ticket for the boat ferry and you are on your way. 4. Once you arrive at Mount Athos, you will once again have to show that permit (or you should call it a visa) and you are ready to enter Mount Athos. However, I am not sure how the procedure goes if you are not an Orthodox Christian. I would not want to mislead you. Personally, it took me less than a day for all the paperwork and my visa paper at the Mount Athos was ready for me before I got there.....and as the video mentions, no women allowed under any circumstance. I hope this helps.
Mark 7:13 Thus you nullify and invalidate the word of God by the tradition dead works you have handed down and make the word of God without power and effect by works. And you do so in many such matters reject the word of God for the traditions that you delive reject the word of God for the traditions that you deliver. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. It is not from works, from yourself, your performance or anything you've done, but the gift of God.” Salvation, therefore, is a free gift of grace from God.putting faith in that grace God has provided. Apart from faith in what Christ has provided our right standing with God by our own works is impossible. It was Isaiah who said that our righteous acts are like filthy rags ( Isaiah 64:6 ). He was talking about self righteousness (the things we do to try to make us right with God). It is impossible for us to approach God on the basis of what we've done, even though all of it seems good in the natural realm. In our own self sufficiency and sinful state we would not even be able to stand in His presence because of the effects of sin. Romans 10 "Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness" (Romans 10:3) God's righteousness and our righteousness are polar opposites. Apart from Christ our right standing with God is impossible. It was Isaiah who said that our righteous acts are like filthy rags ( Isaiah 64:6 ) He was talking about self righteousness (the things we do to try to make us right with God). Self righteousness looks great on the outside and people notice it. Like the Israelites our churches are filled with people who look holy but solely trust in themselves to be good enough for God. They are seeking him based upon their righteousness and what they can accomplish for God. However God does not grade on a curve, our righteousness in no way compares to his. Paul said in that the Israelites didn't know God's righteousness and so they tried to establish their own. What is God's righteousness? His righteousness is the uprightness that could only be provided by His perfect payment and sacrifice He provided.. It is who HE is - in thought, word and deed. As you can see, this is a polar opposite of who we are as humans. God is so holy, completely just and true, in every sense of the word. It is impossible for us to approach God on the basis of what we've done, even though all of it seems good in the natural realm. In our own self sufficiency and sinful state we would not even be able to stand in His presence because of the effects of sin. Paul said in Romans 5, "before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law" ( Romans 5:13 ). So sin existed, but God was not crediting it to the accounts of mankind before the law was given. So they mistook his forbearance with sin to be his acceptance of it. Sin became more and more prevalent in the world, so in contrast, a life lived holy looked pretty good in comparison to the corruption that existed. Therefore the law was given to the Jews and it outlined hundreds of rules and guidelines on how to live. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness to them. Compared to the nations around them, they assumed they were good enough but in comparison to God's righteousness, the law showed them it was impossible to fulfill on their own. The law came with both blessings and curses ( Deuteronomy 28 ), and they were subjected to those by how they lived. The law was never intended to be a plan of salvation. The law was intended to show us our inability to earn our way to heaven and to reveal our need for a savior. This is a major truth in the Bible; we cannot earn our way into heaven by our good deeds. If we are relying on what we do for God and our own self righteousness, then Paul says that we remain under the curse of the law. "All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith" ( Galatians 3:10-11 ). God knew it was impossible for us to fulfill by our good works and performance all the law so he provided another way to be justified before him through Jesus. This comes about by faith and those who are righteous before God live by faith. He went on to answer the question on everyone's mind, "What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come" ( Galatians 3:19 ). Romans says it this way, "no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. ( Romans 3:20 ). And again Paul said in Galatians, "the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith ( Galatians 3:24 ). In other words the law shows us our need for a Savior so that we will fall upon the grace and mercy of God and trust in his plan for salvation instead of our own. The law was intended to get us ready for Christ and was never proposed to be the way to God. The amazing thing about falling upon the mercy of God and accepting God's free grace and gift of grace message is that by doing so, we know and submit to God's righteousness. Romans says, "But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe" ( Romans 3:21, Romans 3:22 ). Which means that we obtain God's righteousness through faith in Jesus and since we are righteous by God's standards, we can stand before him, completely justified, where before it would have been impossible to be in His presence. Romans goes on to say, "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law" ( Romans 3:28 ). God is just and does not grade us on a curve like we learned in school. God is just and fair and loving to and for all. For all have sinned and fallen short of perfection so He provided for all This is good news for us today. We do not have to rely on and cannot rely on what we do to please God, he is pleased with us on the basis of faith in Jesus. There is nothing else we can do to add to it, he looks at us and sees us completely whole, righteous and justified before him as if we had never sinned. What an incredible blessing it is to submit to the righteousness of God.
If you think their life is simple, you didn’t understand the video. A lot of people romanticize the monks’ lives, not realizing that it’s not just going around on hikes and enjoying the views of the island. It’s a lot of physical labor, abstinence, fasting, and constant prayer. And the more you pray, the more the evil spirits will try to attack you and deceive you.
As a woman, thank you to the monks on Mount Athos for allowing outsiders to visit where I cannot go.They are entirely correct to exclude women--we would only serve to distract them from their mission. Our Creator Himself made us wonderfully different, but gave us separate, equally important roles. This place is truly a place of beauty, but is a true battlefield where followers of Christ have devoted their entire lives to the fight against the forces of evil, by using our most powerful weapon, prayer. My role as a woman in this world is to be a helpmeet to my husband and mother to my children, bringing them up to glorify God. In the model of our Savior's own mother, we are the center, the heart of the home, as the father is the head of the home. I also serve as a prayer warrior--my role is fulfilled in the Christian home. I feel that today's women have lost sight of the role in the world, resulting in unnecessary, untold misery and suffering.
Our women of today, this generation have destroyed tradition, How many women pray and enter the Holy House of God, his Church UNVEILED. a disgrace. 1st Cor 11: 1-6 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head. A child of God should know this. God Bless you.
The reason why women are not allowed is coz they believe that Virgin Mary herself has stepped there and theh want her to be the only woman who has stepped there :)
Many women do not want the role of a mother, nor do they wish to subjugate themselves to men. Many of us prefer to study and meditate, together with other women or on our own. A nunnery like Mt. Athos would be a dream.

[ *I grew up before the mass* . * was changed in 1962* ] (I am not saying that I like the Novus Ordo mass -- Far from it) BUT …. Compared to the Orthodox mass (i.e. "Divine Liturgy") the Tridentine (Latin) Mass is very austere and terse. At a Tridentine mass, one can not fully participate unless one is able to understand and speak Latin. [Not everyone is capable of doing so] In that case, one either frantically thumbs through one's Latin/English missal or one just opts out and meditates until the bells are rung. Something to consider --- Most Catholic churches are not as decorative as Orthodox churches; (that have icons painted on the walls/ceiling). If one is a Roman Catholic, one is lucky, if one attends a Latin mass at a church with the Bible stories depicted in the stained glass windows. At least in this instance; one can meditate on one or several Bible stories throughout most of the mass (listening to the Latin and recalling one's Bible stores) Please note, that before the Novus Ordo mass; many people -- Who were either illiterate or for (what- ever reason) were unable to follow the Latin; spent most of their time a Mass saying their rosary --- Not the purpose or for the Mass was intended.

Yes, but also the Office of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Constantinople is the last genuine and official Roman office left on earth, having never been closed, even by the Ottoman Turkish sultans. The term "Urums", also derived from the same origin. Under the Ottoman Empire's Millet system, Greeks were in the "Rum Millet" (Millet-i Rum). In today's Turkey, Rum are the Turkish citizens of Greek ethnicity.

There is alot of demonic activity there because they are unsettled by all the prayers and try to stop it but they can't. The monks themselves often have encounters with demons , there are many accounts of these incidents. When the monastaries werre first being built, at night when the monks would rest, demonic forces would come and wreck the structures at the earliest stages and it happened again and again until they were finally visited with Devine instructions to strike a certain rock and from IT was their spring which brought forth Holy water. They followed the devine advice and from that point the demonic forces were unable to destroy the structures. They must have annointed the structures with the Holy water as is common practice today also in the Orthodox world wherever buildings are to be.

@@ulthelth2899 You do realize, I hope, that no one is going to read your long, anti-Orthodox screed. Perhaps you would have realized this, if instead of citing so many verses that do not really support your POV, you had paid more attention to the principle you so assiduously overlook, the principle expressed in Philippians 2:12: "work out your salvation in fear and trembling". Oh, but wait: there is another important principle you completely overlook: "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'whoever would follow me must deny himself, pick up his cross and follow me (Mat 16:24)". How can you pick up your cross and follow as long as you make excuses saying such things as "there is nothing else we can do to add to it"? If only you would understand either one of these principles, then you would understand how you have completely missed the boat, you are allowing your fixation on a heretical version of Justification as an excuse for refusing to deny yourself and pick up your cross as the Orthodox do! You would even understand this fixation has misled you to take out of context *all* the Bible verses you cited here!
Thank you Dear and Reverend Brothers for allowing this programme. Most interesting and very historic to all seeking knowledge. God Bless you All. + David, Oratory of St Luke the Physician.
Wow!!! Super serenity. "In several, in many and, some would say, in all!" - Love this!!! I'm so happy the monks allowed the film to be made. (A little Heaven's Gate, though - without the repression and suicide. I guess that's monastic life. Especially the part when they can't visit family, ever.)
20:02 This is why I love Aussies. This Priest Monk reminds me of another Australian Priest Monk, Fr Kosmas from the Orthodox Talks YT channel. Based and to-the-point. Fr Bless.
Maybe, but if you would fix your mind, you would not be able to just stand this way of life, but to enjoy it and look forward to every next day that will come!
This theology is incorrect my brother, a false teaching is dangerous. Gods kingdom is in your heart. It is not man made Nor you can not see it. God bless
