A Visit to The Streets at Southpoint 

This is probably one of the nicest malls I have seen on ANY mall exploration/walk-thru channel. The indoor outdoor-street design kind of reminds me of the designs of some Vegas hotel shopping centers. I'm in SoCal and it sucks how we don't have malls with this kind of aesthetic or scale...seems like all these very grand malls are all on the East Coast. You guys also have a lot of stores that are hard to find in our area now. And I think the new format is fine.

Streets at Southpoint is an amazing mall! One of my favorite retail centers in the Southeast. It has an awesome selection of upscale stores, and really proves just how great the indoor/outdoor together retail environment compliments each other.

Ah, Southpoint Mall. I was a student at UNC back in the mid-2000s and I remember going on many dates to this mall. Lots of good restaurants along the outside portion as well as the movie theater. I particularly remember watching X-Men: The Last Stand at this movie theater opening day with my girlfriend at the time. The theater was filled with high-energy college students cheering throughout the movie. It was probably the most exciting movie theater experience I've ever had because of how electric the audience was. Good memories.

Mall is still thriving in 2023 👌🏾

I love this mall. I found out about it a couple years ago and have gone few times since each time finding a new part i admire. It truly is an art piece, worth the hour long drive.

This is one my favorite malls when going to Durham NC it’s a very nice and thriving with great verity of stores. The mall opened in 2002 which is pretty late for the mall era but this mall speaks for its self it’s amazing mall with great shops and things to do even the loss of Sears couldn’t kill this mall, it looks like this mall will be here to stay.

I hate dealing with i-40 so I rarely come to south point but it was were I went on my first date with my then girl friend so it holds a special spot in my heart

Dooms, I think this is THE most beautiful mall I've EVER seen...I mean, DANG, it's just gorgeous! And I love the reduced size/footprint kiosks, too. (In truth, I've always thought that kiosks mainly blocked the flow of traffic and became early warnings of the blight to come when they failed and were left empty, but these are sleek & modern, and very well placed to actually add to the verve of this shopping center.) And the outside portion? Delightful! (Though I DO wonder if that fountain might become a pedophile hangout, what with all those bronzes of kids at play in the water...) This reminds my of my own hometown mall in Smell-A County, the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, CA. They, too have learned the art of mixing indoor and outdoor spaces to create a truly beautiful mixed bag of indoor and outdoor treats. And, yes, I CAN tell that you like this mall, Dooms, and that's all good, my friend; you're NOT a journalist, so you needn't even worry about maintaining a "forced neutrality" in your work. Another SUPERB effort, Herr Grunster! (And please accept my apologies for the uber-long post!)

This looks like an amazing mall that I feel I could get lost in just looking at all the amazing architecture as well as get a good walk in for exercise. XD

Good lord it's huge! I thought our Charleston town center was big. I need to get out more!

This was by far our favorite mall from our recent trip to Raleigh-Durham. I would make the drive from Charlotte just to go back here again, just need to find the time. The fountains with the statues and the faux storefront look of the shops inside the mall remind me of Citrus Park Mall in Tampa, FL. They may have been designed by the same people. Not sure since research isn't my thing. The one in Tampa is only one floor though. Anyway, back to this beautiful place! The Sears was closed (of course) and a few other in line stores were as well, some looked to be permanent. In a stroke of irony, the Restoration Hardware was being "re-stored" into something else when we were there. Not sure what since there were no signs. Also, it seems they ran out of "Free People" since that store was also closed. We were there on a Monday afternoon and it was very busy! Glad to see that even with some of the stores still closed. Definitely going back here someday, hopefully soon. Thanks again for all your hard work Doomie. We love your videos!

I am blown away by the interior of this mall and wish it was my local one. I love brickwork outside the food court.

I really like hiw this mall is designed and the outdoor fill even inside it is a very unique mall and hopefully it can survive these struggling times for the retail world. Another awsome video you out did ykhrsekf again Doomie thanks.

This is the best mall in all of North Carolina. I’ve been going since I was a baby.

This is a cool looking modern mall indeed! They should tear that Sears down and maybe replace it with an apt building or a hotel. This mall looks like it could survive after COVID but not necessarily as a regular mall

While Southpoint doesn't hold a special place in my heart like Triangle town center does its still a beautiful mall. With covid mostly a non issue now I'm happy to say the place is booming again. :)

This is quite a unique Mall, it has elements of 70’s and 80’s Malls and modern touches, the outdoor streetscape is great, very cool!

Is there a Hot Topic in there? Also those outdoor statues are weird. Not my taste but I love the architecture inside and how they look like outside shop fronts inside of the mall. That is so cool.

I love the aesthetic of this mall. The big tacky Windows storefront kinda kills the immersion a bit though.

This mall also has an AMC and has two shopping plazas both within a 5 minute drive from the mall

I haven’t been there in awhile but I always enjoyed going there. I went there around the time it opened and it was indeed one of the nicest malls I’ve been to. It’s sad so many places have shuttered due to the pandemic.

Back in Labor Day 2008, We went to this mall for the first time.

I just don't get it, some post 2000 built malls or renovations like this one are awesome. Memorial City Mall in Houston has similar storefronts to this mall, big and bold. Other malls especially ones that have been renovated in the past 20 years or so, have such a boring and bland look that makes you want to vomit.

JCDecaux mallscape advertising in North Carolina? The answer is come from JCDecaux of Norfolk, Virginia market. Brookfield Properties Retail Group's The Streets at Southpoint is having JCDecaux mallscape as well as Starwood Capital Group's MacArthur Center.

I go here on weekends and love this mall! Hate that the crime has gotten bad that way but it is still my fav mall and its so relaxing and gorgeous!

As a fuquay-varina native I have to say out triangle town center and Crabtree mall this mall is the best one in them traingle

Really wanted to go to this place. I believe Westfield Citrus Park by Tampa was built by Urban and has the tall ceilings and the tall storefronts so Southpoint is an improvement of their work.

As a European, this is a mall I would instantly love to beam me into. A LOT of stores we don't have and I would love to check out. Like Nordstrom, macy's, Pottery Barn, Barnes and Noble, West Elm, The Gap, Banana Republic, Sephora, Williams Sonoma, Paper Source, Crate & Barrel. I thinks it has a beautiful open design and a lot of good shops.

Man, some of the storefronts reminds me of the ones in Memorial City Mall, it really gives me that vibe. This mall is very beautiful tho. I usually go to MCM that’s why.

FWIW, Franklin Street and UNC are in Chapel Hill, not Durham...so the brickwork is reminiscent/inspired by downtown Durham. Of course, this mall was designed to make people from Chapel Hill and Cary not scared to come to Durham.

Another great video.. well done... not sure on the outdoor section.. what’s the weather like in that part of the world.? it doesn’t look very inviting on a grey day and to me it looks definitely secondary to the enclosed mall.. so not sure ... maybe on a nice warm day with lots of outdoor cafes and restaurants there might be more atmosphere... another thing I keep noticing with US malls is the amount of standard chain tenants.. you could list them without actually seeing the mall and yes, they would all be there ..where is the interest, in such a dull line up ... he in the UK we try and mix it up a bit so that our shopping centres don’t all look the same and have exactly the same stores ....

I was here tonight (September 2022) and the mall was completely dead at 8pm on Thursday. It had been a long time since I’d stepped into a mall, and honestly it felt like the Twilight Zone. I thought about getting something to eat at the food court after an appointment at the Apple Store, but the food court was inaccessible as the escalators are shut down and blocked off by then. (You are told to use the elevators if you want to go between floors, but I don’t even know where the elevators are. Unless you’re in a wheelchair, who uses elevators at the mall?) Given that the mall management has completely checked out on this property, I have to wonder why any business would want to open up shop here or continue operating. I don’t know what the rent is like in 2022, but I hope it is very low. I noticed that “Madewell,” an Internet clothing retailer you hear advertised on podcasts, has a brick and mortar location in the mall. I bet they got a really good deal on their lease. I am from Raleigh Durham, and I remember when this mall opened and was one of the most impressive shopping centers I’d ever seen. Very sad.

A mall in Durham should have the word "gunpoint" in it instead of Southpoint.
