Visiting the Northlake Mall on a July 2019 day. A fairly busy mall for all of its troubles in the recent past. Perhaps we'll see what happens in the coming days. Also, say hi to Rhys & Bathimers.

It's terrific seeing a healthy, vibrant mall like this one in these vids, especially one with a full, busy food court. However, having said all that, if these troublesome, violent incidents continue, even this beautiful mall will start to experience a decline, a' la Owings Mills and Randall Park Malls; NO one is immune, guys! Thanks for another cool vid, Doomster!

This is a more declining mall but still can be thriving if you think about it. This what I call modern mall and I actually like it especially at the begging of the video where there was a fountain which brought a really nice touch to it. The mall opened late for the mall era in September 2005 and I’m surprised I haven’t visited this place due to me having family living in Lake Norman/Mooresville. It’s not dead but it is definitely declining but otherwise it’s not a bad mall to go to and it still has some followers, either way I wish the best for this mall in the retail universe, as this is one of the last traditional malls in the US to open during the original mall era.

I live about 3 miles from this mall currently but at its opening in 2005 I lived just down the road. In the last 10 years or so I think the decline of this mall has come from a few directions: competition from the nearby open-air Birkdale Village which targets the affluent Lake Norman communities who were meant to shop at this mall; the high profile crime incidents you mentioned adding to a poor safety reputation; the recent and upcoming revitalization of the University City area, including a nearby IKEA shopping center. I still shop here fairly frequently but I notice more and more vacancies, the closed Dicks Sporting Goods front and center sticking out like a sore thumb. The large restaurant spaces at the main entrance struggle to survive long, high turnover not being a good sign. I hope the construction of a revamped nearby Shoppes at University Place doesn't drive the nail in the coffin of this mall.

That style design in the food court makes the room feel more open and spacious. That food court is probably massive. I like the mall well enough because it looks like the mall near my place, but it's still plain.

Nice mall but struggles a bit due to shootings and violence. Lost some major tenants including Apple Store, Buckle, Dick's Sports. But still has strong anchors Belk, Macy's, and Dillard's.

Local to the area lost a lot of namebrand stores including Dick's Sporting Goods, Sephora, Abercrombie, and more

This mall is an interesting blend of modern and old school design. The wood and curved ceilings give the mall an old school feel IMO.

The American flag banners with the curved tube ceiling remind me of that funky American flag from Cincinnati Mills. I'm also fascinated by the difference in Bath & Body Works storefronts. This one has one of the blue plaid ones, but it's interesting that most older ones have the front with the awning. (I didn't go to my first BB&W until 2011 though).

This used to be my mall when I lived in the area back in 2007-2010, but that area is in decline and has been for a while now. Really surprised this place is still doing as well as it is. Thanks for another entertaining video!

Wow! At 5:11, that “Charlotte Made” wall art reminds me of the Esprit or Memphis Group style art in the mid to late 80’s! Cool

Northlake definitely reminds me of Haywood Mall in SC. There’s a lot of similar tenants and designs.

There was another fight at this mall on 9/28/2020. There use to be trouble at Eastridge Mall in Gastonia in the late 1990's until they put a police station unit in the mall. Maybe they need to do the same with Northlake Mall.

It’s a very nice mall, but lots of gang activity. Back in 2012, my wife and I were eating in the food court, when Mall police chased & wrestled a young woman to the ground beside us and cuffed her. Too bad really, since it’s a nice mall. Loved to eat at Firebirds.

That mall is doing well even though they have had issues with VIOLENCE there. There is an Apple store there and malls with Apple stores tend to do well. You should give me a shout when you are in the area. Maybe I will buy you a slice of Pizza. The Apple store is the only reason I would go there.

I do have a few more loose ends to cover in Charlotte, although these malls are in the outer rim, namely Carolina Mall, Monroe Crossing, and Rock Hill Galleria.

This mall is doomed. I actually had a kid drop his gun on the ground right in front of me when I was walking to the car. Seemed like no big deal to him. This mall is too close to low income areas. Most people carry a gun and don't mind using it. Whatever happened to a plain ol fight? I have asked my family to shop elsewhere. Too bad because it is a nice mall.

RIP 'Donkey Cartel' - an aspiring RU-vid rapper. lol. Somebody else was killed at this mall this week. Buy online. 1980 was long ago.
