A Wakeup Call - Heather’s Story of Anaphylaxis 

The worst thing about food allergies is when people around you think you don't have food allergies because you look perfectly well. They think it's psychological; they have no idea what it's like to experience anaphylaxis.

I have life threatening nut allergies. It’s very important to carry an epipen on you at all times. I think that a serious problem that follows that, is how expensive epipens really are. Most people don’t realize that epipens expire after a year so you have to get new ones every year. The retail price of my last prescription was $650. Something that will save lives shouldn’t be unaffordable.

I have life-threatening allergies to airborne wheat, dairy, amoxicillin, and peanuts. My doctor once said I was the most allergic person to wheat he had ever seen and that scared me, a lot. I have used 7 epi pen in the past 6 months, being admitted to the hospital twice for anaphylaxis, once ending up in the ICU. I feel as though no one understands what I am going through. I like am the only one in my whole school who has food allergies and I feel so alone. It is horrible when people joke around with me about my food allergies but I really am secretly going through an anxiety attack while we talk about it. It is terrifying to go through anaphylactic shock and I am just glad to know I am not alone.

My rule for epipen is if I have any symptom that could impair breathing (like lip swelling, even if it is still mild, or tingly tongue), or any three symptoms. So if I had hives, stomach cramps, and fatigue, I would still use it because of my three symptom rule

I'm allergic to peanuts and nuts as well and I almost had a reaction at my friend's house. They were making homemade tacos. My friend was making my taco and handed it to mee. I picked it up and as soon as I did, her dad said something about them being healthy because they were fried in peanut oil. I imedently told them I was allergic and washed my hands. I got a rash on my hands, but nothing more. I'm really lucky he said something because I would have probably been hospitalized.

Just my first anaphylactic reaction last night at 31 years old. Vegan tacos at a potluck. The ground beef was actually walnuts. Insanely quick onset, throat started swelling up instantly. I’ve always been fairly diligent about what my food is cooked in, but a small careless moment nearly proved fatal. Didn’t have an Epipen on me either, haven’t had one in years (I know, I know) The nurses in the ER were fantastic and it was honestly great to see what an Epipen feels like in the safety of a hospital bed. Not even 10% as bad as I was expecting. Breathing restored in under 3 minutes. If I ever find myself in that situation again, I won’t hesitate to use it.

I had a food challenge today and went into anaphylaxis. I needed epinephrine. I haven’t gotten that bad since I was a kid and it was terrifying. I could barely breathe.

My girlfriend had a reaction to an unknown thing and got hives, the people there with us thought it wasn’t a big deal but I knew it could get worse. It did end up worsening, she had anaphylaxis was hospitalized. It was the scariest thing I’ve seen and I’m so thankful she is okay.

I was diagnosed at 29 that I had a dairy allergy in that I am deathly allergic to milk I have experience my throat closing breathing issues and have never had any symptoms up to the past year so 30 years of my life never an issue with dairy and all the sudden I can die for milk very eye-opening and scary.

I am a chef in a kitchen. I could never imagine not being 100% sure of the ingredients of a dish but just hoping I was right & serve to someone with an allergy. Even if I know 100% the food has had no contact with said ingredient at all, I will still be extremely thorough when making it just to be safe. Mistakes happen but not when someone’s life is in your hands. T

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one, as much as people joke about it’s the most scary thing I’ve experienced first anaphylactic shock was last week during training and I’m in the army. I never thought I would be allergic to hornets until I was hit twice at the same time in my neck.

Do not ever rely on a restaurant employee with your life. they may not take it seriously, may not understand, may not care or worse yet purposely put something in your food. Many times wait staff or people working in the kitchen just see you as picky eater trying to tell them what to do. I have a relative with life threating tree nut allergies and he 100% of the time since he was really little will avoid eating if he is not 100% sure. on a side note always make sure you do not leave your epi pens in a hot car or exposed to the sun and always watch the expiration date.

my daughter is allergic to so many foods,thickeners,soy,nuts and each week more and more. she's 33 and is so upset. has lost so much weight and is underweight. she pushes herself to work and supports herself even though she's sick and exhausted. I'm so worried about her.

I have a severe dairy allergy and I had my third case of anaphylaxis two days ago, almost exactly 3 years after my first one (I’m currently 15). It was terrifying experiencing the same feelings I did three years ago again. Thank god I had epinephrine with me.

20 and recently got mine. I had all the symptoms except the cant breathe part which is a good thing. I dont even know what actually triggered it but a possibility could be the cold. I tend to get some hives when in contact but not really that noticeable. It was my first time getting hospitalized nor was I prepared since it just happened out of the blue. I hope the specialist calls soon since winter is around the corner.

Around May 2021 I was officially diagnosed with milk allergy from an allergist, did the skin test and blood test. Before the food allergy test he told me to do 14 day food diary and write down things what I ate and any reaction following it. Since 2013 I would vomit anything that has any dairy products violently and having painful abdominal cramps along with itchy watery eyes and runny nose. I though I must be lactose intolerant. Few months I end up at ER with anaphylaxis. Since I cut all dairy products, I feel much better than before. Some people thinks that food allergy is just a trend like trying to lose weigh or Im just a picky eater. Im educating people around me the dangers of food allergies from mild to severe reactions. Plus I should them how to administered epi-pen properly with using epi-pen trainer. Now I have cooking more at home and using oat milk

I've had severe, life threatening allergies to all milk substances for 47 years. You will be fine, so long as you keep doing with what you are doing! It sucks, but, HEY! it's your life; not your friends' lives.

I told a police officer I have a severe allergic reaction to speeding tickets. He didn't care and wrote me the ticket.

I had Anaphylaxic Shock from a medicine LISINAPRIL but wasn't aware that it caused Anaphylaxic Shock. I had been on that medicine for over a year. I I felt something strange go off like a burst of a explosion inside my head around my nose. Instantly I felt my nose swell up and ran to the bathroom & my nose was getting really swollen. Then my throat started to close up, so I ran outside told my husband to call 911 because I'm having an allergic reaction to something and my airway is closing up. The nearest hospital was only 3 mins away. By law that's where you go is to the nearest hospital for extreme emergencies. The last thing I remember was hearing a doctor say "if we don't INTUBATE her now she's going to die" . Then 3 days later i started waking up & the Doctors were taking out my breathing tube, I was on a ventilator for 3 days. That's when my nightmare actually started. I was alive and grateful please don't get me wrong. But, it took an anesthesiologist almost 20 mins to put me under. My husband and kids kept hearing on the PA saying they needed the anesthesiologist STAT to the ER. When my kids were able to see me in ICU my oldest son saw the nurse dig out my ID Wristband from the garbage can to then attached it to my bed. My oldest daughter walked in on a nurse without any doctors around trying to almost take out my breathing tube out on the second day. Mind you I was still very swollen. My daughter question her what she was doing, and the nurse played dumb. By the third or fourth day I was still obviously sedated from all that medicine I was on. A nurse came in and said "Hi Maria, it's time for your medicine " my name ISN'T MARIA!! 😡 My oldest daughter was there and said to the nurse that's not Maria that's my mom. The nurse said that's Maria. My daughter raised her voice some and said THAT'S MY MOM & said my name. The nurse said well her name is on the board. My daughter said that was from the last patient that was here before my mother! They could of killed me or i could of had a reaction to someone else's medication!! They put me in a room with some older woman who kept screaming she wanted out, to let her go. If you've never been on some strong medicine it can give you some nightmares like your hallucinating. That's what happened to me. I thought this woman got out of her bed and was trying to come over to my bed to smother me. My husband tried like hell to transfer me to our hospital that we go to, UofM Hospital in Michigan. It's the BEST hospital in Michigan. Then I developed a rash on my right side but didn't noticed it until I got home. My husband and daughter asked the doctor if I would need an epipen. The Doctor said NO, she doesn't need one. I was there for 7 days! I was literally discharged, & my husband took me to UofM Hospital to get checked out and make sure I was OK. The first thing the ER Doctor said to me was YOU NEED TO CARRY AN EPIPEN with you ALWAYS! Needless to say I had a HORRIFIC NIGHTMARE at that hospital. I've started having night terrors, I couldn't leave my house because I was so scared something was going to happen again to me and I would end up at that hospital again. See, I had to wait almost a week to get my epipen because they didn't have any. I couldn't wear mask's because I felt like I was being suffocated. Anytime I was near a Doctor's office or the hospital I would start to shake, cry, & felt like I couldn't breathe. I couldn't have my husband far from me because I was beyond frightened. My family doctor said I had PTSD from almost dying and then what I went through at that hospital. I see a therapist to help me with my PTSD and I'm not having a many night terrors. But, I still shake, cry, & feel like I can't breathe when I have any doctor appointments. I actually passed out when I had an MRI done. I woke up in the ER side & they said I was saying DON'T PUT ME ON A VENTILATOR! The mind can be very complex when faced with such terror. Then literally under a month, my husband got sick. He bled internally due to his medical condition. He was on a ventilator breathing tube for 3 days and in the hospital for 6 days. But thank God he was at UofM Hospital. He had to have surgery done called a TIPS PROCEDURE. He is still recovering but getting stronger everyday. I'm doing better and getting stronger as well everyday. I just started back to work and trying to save money for a Gently Used Motorhome so my husband and I can go travel to see our son in the Military Air Force. He's stationed in Louisiana BAFB. We haven't seen him since this July and we won't see him probably until next year. He doesn't think he can make it for Christmas time. I don't fly, I'm scared of flying. Renting cars and paying for a hotel adds up etc. So. That's why we have a Gofundme Campaign Page so if people can donate to help us out that would be beautiful. Bottom line I'm grateful for the doctors that saved me. I look at life through a different pair of glasses. I am grateful for my husband, kids, grandkid's, & family and friends. I just had Anaphylaxis last night, got a rude awakening that an epipen is $368 for 2 and my insurance. ITs complete BS. When they first came out they were $100 for 2

Thank you Heather because when I first developed anaphylaxis, in 2021, I didn't even see it coming, but I feared it might happen and asked for an EpiPen, though my doctor resisted, I insisted because I had widespread idiopathic urticaria, which I later found out it was caused by ectoparasites! For the longest time, I wasn't putting together all the symptoms as being anaphylaxis, so I did my research, and became very informed, no, thanks to my doctor, who is completely clueless, but I also watched Heather's video, and then I remember, as my blood pressure would rise, I would get the sense of impending doom, and my boyfriend kept saying why do you keep using that phrasing, and I realized that I did say that, when it got to the critical point, where I should've been taking my Epi, and we looked up this phrasing, and it turns out that it is now a medical standard that people repeat the same line, almost as though they are reading from a script, that they feel a sense of impending doom, and it's called the sign of impending doom, and there is no feeling like it because you are certain you are going to die! They say it's also the sign of impending shock, and that has happened as well! Anybody suffering like this, needs to do their research because most doctors are so ignorant about anaphylaxis, and even paramedics, if they didn't see welts, didn't believe that you had anaphylaxis, but often times, I took the epi- before they arrived, but there was no convincing some ignorant paramedics, and I didn't need to be debated on what I knew, had nearly killed me, three times! As my doctor warned me, each time you go into anaphylaxis, might be the last time you ever go into anaphylaxis! Never ever let a doctor minimize your symptoms or make you think you don't need an EpiPen! Insist that you have it, and if they refuse, tell them that if something bad were to happen, you were going to hold them personally responsible because you'd be surprised how many doctors don't want to give out epi-pens! It is ridiculous, and I even had a paramedic tell me, not to take the Epi, when my throat was closing up, my blood pressure was super high, and I was getting severe tremors, as my nervous system became more taxed, so I don't let anybody tell me how to treat my allergic reaction because though they think they know better, no one knows your body like you do! May God bless and watch over everyone in this perilous situation, and never debate yourself or second-guess yourself, just take the Epi! The first time I did it, I was sorry, I suffered for days, leading up to that point of complete anaphylaxis! Also, people don't realize anaphylaxis can be a progression of symptoms that might take days, hours, or minutes, so, even if you have to keep a journal, start becoming aware when you see the symptoms, and usually they always progressed to full-blown anaphylaxis, in my case, every time! In fact, I had biphasic anaphylaxis, which most doctors didn't even know, existed, and why I had that was because it was predicated on the lifecycle of these ectoparasites! Unfortunately, I'm still not parasite free and realize I've been plagued with them, for over 20 years, which is what started my anaphylaxis in, but we didn't realize, they were getting into the house, and it only took a few bites, but you'd be surprised that doctors had no idea what these anomalous skin lesions were, so I suffered persistently, for years with bites, and bumps, and horrific skin lesions That only after I became completely infested, and did my research, did I realize that I had severe scabies, and then, three other doctors, finally concurred! Unfortunately, everyone in my house became infested, had allergies, but thank God, not anaphylaxis, as I got attacked the worst, but years later, I realize that my father didn't really have Parkinson's disease, and I witnessed him going into shock, but he had been so overrun with parasites, that can get into the lungs, as that happened to me, and he succumbed to parasitic disease! Finding out that my house was infested and my dad and I knew that there was something here making us sick, but we never imagined it was this nightmare, or that it would nearly claim my life, but it tragically took his! I hope my story will spare someone else a tragedy and illness that I've suffered, but I also know, the parasites will give you severe pain cause multiple diseases, that will never be linked back to the parasites, and you will start bloating and gaining weight, from the inflammatory response, but if you see skin lesions or feel hard masses under your skin, start thinking, parasites! Also, I did notice them in my surroundings, but I dismiss them as dirt or crumbs, not realizing what they were, but then, when I went in the attic, and saw them everywhere, I still didn't know what they were, until I started noticing them in my skin! There needs to be more parasite awareness in this country, because it is a pervasive problem, and the western medical system is completely ill, prepared and ignorant to this problem that they think only happens in foreign countries, but the CDC says, otherwise, and now I know far too many people suffering with ectoparasites and internal parasites, so we have a silent epidemic on our hands, so re-search, and if you think you have them, stop at nothing to convince your doctor, because most of them don't believe that we have parasites in the United States, and they'd be really wrong! Mites are everywhere! They are also a mammalian disease, so they are contagious between humans and animals, and medical journals say that you can have them your entire life, and pass them back-and-forth between family members and pets, alike, without ever suspecting, what is the Cause! I hope I have spared many humans and animals of this nightmare, just by my cautionary tale! I was hospitalized yesterday because of a cross contact reaction to cashews. I also had a secondary allergic reaction which really sucks. I have been diagnosed with severe food allergies a month ago. Is still don’t have an epinephrine auto injector yet but I am getting one!

I am allergic to sesame and sunflower and it's in everything!! Bread, sauce, literally everywhere. I accidentally consume once a year no matter how careful I am and I never realized that hives, itchy throat and vomiting means it could be fatal!

I had my first reaction the other day when working out at sea. unknowingly ate chicken satay. realised straight away and alerted the crew. injected 2 epipens and symptoms were getting worse still. Whole body went tingley and my head was throbbing. Chest and airways getting tighter by the minute. was advised by medical services over the radio to take more shots of adrenaline. Lost track of what was happening next for a bit and was struggling a lot and didn't think I'd make it off the ship tbh. About an hour of having the reaction I peaked and the symptoms started to get better. I was sick and immediately felt better again. The helicopter them got to the ship and I got air lifted to hopsital. Really feel lucky to have survived it. only downside is now I'm not being issued with a medical so can't go back to work at sea and all my training was for nothing..

Heather, my experience of anaphylactic shock was not pleasant at all. Mine wasn’t to do with allergies to food or peanuts at all but a misprescribed medication to high blood pressure. Which caused me to go into shock. I was lucky enough to realise that something was wrong when my lips swelled up to the size of a small ring (red) donut. I knew it was wrong. Called an ambulance and was at the hospital in 10 mins. I spent 3 nites there and was so lucky that it was a quiet nite when it happened. I had over 20 blood test, ecg heart monitors blood pressure and the best care ever for free! Difference between our health systems. I had 10 of the best surgeons and doctors in the Royal Free Hospital, London. They saved my life. I’m not the biggest guy in the world but if I could I would help them ou with money as they did with me. Peace and much love from over the pond

I could eat Nutella ( hazelnut spread) to my hearts content but then my immune system overreacted to it and I was at the hospital for an hour before being diagnosed with a nut allergy I was so upset

I know a lot of people won't believe me when I say this, but I have a severe reaction to garlic but not onions or leeks, I get Anaphalaxis but I can't afford my epipen. Which garlic is just almost about in everything and the slightest bit of it will set me off. One of my close friends is deathly allergic to onions but not garlic or leeks, but she has an epipen thankfully. There is a sulfur\sulfuric allergy (mainly to medications) on my mom's side of the family and mine came out in food. I used to eat garlic food as I loved it as a kid and right around 12 was when I had my first reaction to it. Itchy nose, itchy mouth/back of throat, first. Then came the coughing, feeling like I couldn't breathe. I had asthma so I thought it was just some weird asthma attack. I did my inhaler and that didn't do anything for me. I was out eating with my grandparents when this happened, then came the dizziness and overall general feeling I had a really bad flu, a cold, and Bronchitis. My grandfather let me try his inhaler (he had COPD) to see if that would help and it didn't. I couldn't catch my breath for coughing so much. I started to see spots and I couldn't hear anything, which I told my grandparents as best as I could, or have the energy to move when I was slumping over and became unconscious. The next thing I remember I'm waking up in the ER with my grandparents and my mom there. I was on oxygen, they had an IV going and I was told they gave me several epipen injections, Narcan (can help reverse shock in cases), in the ambulance and I still didn't come to. It wasn't until the doctor ordered more Narcan, Adrenaline and added some steroid to push through my system, above the recommended dosage that I came to a few moments later according to them. I got a breathing treatment shortly after. I was shaking like a leaf in a hurricane after all that. I've made more trips like that since then, since I can't afford an epipen. They're rare as I obviously avoid garlic at all costs. Anaphalaxis is no joke at all. The smell alone with mess up my allergies and cause an asthma attack sometimes, but accidentally ingested, it's off to the ER.

I has been for 2 years ago, I’m allergic to the coconut, and some candy of a Lindt chocolate with coconut oil. I’m feeling is lucky to be alive and get helped my treatment and I has to still a carry my epi-pen will won’t be dying as myself.

i had an allergic reaction from peanuts in one of those cheese cracker sandwich things. the package said “cheese crackers” and so obviously i didn’t expect them to have peanut butter mixed in them. thankfully when i bit into it, i instantly recognized a nut flavor that ive never tasted before and checked the ingredients info. but it was especially scary bc it was at lunch in middle school and we weren’t allowed to carry bags with us (and i didn’t know that i could get a doctors note to carry it with me since my school was very strict on the no bag policy) so i couldn’t have my epi-pen with me.

almost lost my ex to this . She had a seizure & fell onto the floor shaking . probably bumps head started pooping . I was scared for her. Thought it was over ... Really sad seeing this .

It's too bad that reactions are not as clear cut for Mastocytosis and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome patients. Our baseline is like stage 2 anaphylaxis sometimes.

in 5th grade i was only 9 years old & one of the faculty gave me something with sesame in it which i am very allergic to. my mom said i could have everything they were serving that day so i at it. immediately i knew something was wrong. my stomach hurt and i didn’t know it at the time but i think my throat was closing. i threw up everywhere & was taken to the er. thankfully i never clearly need the epi pen but they said i should have used it.

I just had this happen to me on Sat on halloween. MY ENTIRE BODY had hives all over, mouth and lips swelled up, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness. I had no epi pen on me, I had to slam 75 mg of benydral and be rushed to the ER. I luckily got there in time, right when my ears and mouth swelled up. I had to much gluten.

The worst part is people out there don’t care ☹️ I was a server and a woman told me her sun couldn’t have anything cooked in peanut oil so I made sure to run back and talk to the cook and he said “tell them not to go out to eat then” 🙁

I have gone anaphylactic 13 times. I am allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame seeds. I am 13 years old. My worst allergy is eggs.

I have a very very similar story which happened to me whilst on board a celebrity cruise ship this summer I've never been so certain I was going to die in my life it was also my first experience of anaphylaxis In 17 years

I am 17 and i recently found out that i am allergic to vanilla substances... I am so grateful that i never had any major issues just some really bad cramps and headaches😄....

i have egg and nut allergies and j was just recently in the ER and had a severe allergic reaction. the waitress said the burger i ate had NOTHING in it and she was sure nothing was in it. yet the second i ate it my throat started swelling and i needed and epipen.my throat started swelling and i felt so sick it was horrible.

Damn, posted too soon. I wonder if they truly retrain staff, or if it's just "Hey, guys, be more careful about nuts." My own allergies are weird. Lettuce, mustard, and artificial sweeteners. Lettuce is easy to avoid, but they sneak artificial sweeteners into food as a flavor enhancer, particularly in the inexpensive chain restaurants like TGI Fridays. Mustard also crops up in things that you do not expect. I was once at a organizational banquet where I was served a meal that had nothing whatsoever I could eat. The chicken had been glazed honey mustard sauce, which had also thoughtfully been dribbled all over the potatoes and the vegetables. That's absolutely the last thing of that kind that I will attend. And if you tell me oh no there are no artificial sweeteners in this, and there are, there's going to be hell to pay. I won't mind up in the ER oh, but I may wind up in that restaurant bathroom with Exploding Butt Syndrome.

I have 8 reactions throughout my lifetime, and it gets worse and worse each time. But I didn't think an epi-pen could save my life, I thought it only delayed the reaction... either way, I have had to be hospitalized because symptoms got so bad, when an epi-pen and an antihistamine just wouldn't cut it. For those with food allergies -- ask 3 times about ingredients, even if you feel like a nuisance or a pest, it's worth it. Spell it out, show pictures, emphasize the life-threatening part. And if you're still unsure, don't risk it. Buy yourself food from some place, that you know for certain, it is safe for you to eat.

Yes, I had anaphylaxis when I was young and it was a very bad thing, but I still don't know why it happened to me.

I have idiopathic anaphylaxis. I had a service dog who alerted me before it starts but he recently died and now we r training another dog for this. For me, its life threatening. I really wish I knew why I experience this

I'm not allergic to food but rather insect venom, particularly bees. And luckily I was a 2 minute drive from the hospital, I remember going to hospital, I got to the front desk and felt dizzy and collapsed. And I swear to this day, I was watching myself fall into a pile on the ground from an outside perspective. The doctors ended up giving me 6 shots of epi, and a whole concoction of other stuff. Honestly, it wasn't scary while I was having the reaction, but afterwards I was petrified. I was more scared of the allergic reaction afterwards than I was at being shot at.

I have celiac disease plus sulfite allergies and can definitely empathize. I carry an epi pen, albuterol, antihistamines, and antinausea meds with me in a packet for truly bad times.

A friend I was out having dinner with said to me "do you think it's all in your head?". I dispair 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm in my 40's... never had a food allergy in my life. Just ate some almonds, like i've done many times, but not for a few years... My mouth swelled a little on the left side, got super itchy, and it became more difficult to swallow, and I got somewhat nauseous. I don't have antihistamine, but I have epinephrine (for asthma). I took it because I was having difficulty swallowing water, but it hasn't cleared up like she says but maybe asthma epinephrine takes longer. It helped my mouth swelling go down almost immediatly though. I wonder how long it will take to work completely. Its past my bedtime lol

I'm not allergic to nuts -- fortunately. Because 4 times in the past 3 years, I've found nuts in foods that weren't supposed to have them. Twice it was pecans in pancakes, at two different pancake houses. Twice it was butter pecan ice cream when I ordered butter crunch. Again, two different places. Every time, they promise to retrain staff

I usually don't get allergic reactions except for 2 medications. Tonight I ordered stuff from I hop internet the crepes with strawberries but I am not allergic idk what they crossed contaminated or what. I had terrible reaction my arms were red my chest was red and I felt like I couldn't breath

Six pages worth of allergy's here... Going into new medical office's and them asking what i'm allergic to is always funny/depressing. I respond everything under the sun including the sun sometimes and then they chuckle until I show them the paperwork and then I always get the same answer which kind of puts me in a depressive state because I still haven't figured out how to live with it yet but they usually say how do you eat or live for that matter? My response is trial and error. I'm on one of the strongest antihistamine out there (Xolair) a shot in each arm every four weeks it's my last resort because it's a biological shuts off apart of your immune system. I could write forever about this but yeah allergies suck.

when i was a small kid, i had lots of allergies. Now i dont have any, but recently i had an anaphylactic shock. It wasnt only the shock, i was sick as well, its the worst feeling ever. I had some red dots all over my body, everywhere. i got lots of shots, it was the reaction of the sickness. It was really bad, i hope people wont experience this a lot, but its just what god gave us.

this past couple of days I am in horrible anaphylaxis its from the immediate onset to the whole body swelling and pinpoint hives , benedryl and zantac with caffeine are trying its best - no insurance and 58, I only ever have been allergic to honey and bees - shellfish , these days I am reacting to much more, like my gut and skin are on high alert - waiting for tomorrow that I can see a doctor , epinephrine may be the factor needed to stop the immune response as it it the H1 inhibitor, all others are H2 blockers , thanks for sharing your journey - people need to know more about the issues of ingredients , reactions of them with eachother and how we react to that! the memory of our cells is our first line of defense and something is very wrong with their replication coding ability

Epi pen when your in anaphylaxis is litteraly the nicest feeling ever. Like when the doctor gave me that pen i almost instantly felt all the burning stop and the swelling finally went down. Its like wallking in a house with AC after going on a hot wallk in yhe summer just multiplied by 100

It's absolutely terrifying, and it's worse if you have no medical insurance and can't afford an epipen.

i Have seafoods allergy. one time i tried to eat shrimps because i thought if i eat seafoods i might developed someting not to cause seafoods allergies but its not work that way . after a few minutes my stomach hurts, vominating, my eyes are red cant open it, my lips are swelling itchy skin. omygod. and i didnt eat seafoods in my entire life. but life is unfair, i have eczema :( which is can trigger something esp. when its hot day/ warm water touches my skin

I'm currently in the hospital for Anaphalactic Shock. I got bit by a tick that stays on mammals (4 legged animals) it hopped off and bite me injecting the venom inside of me. Now whenever I eat mammals my whole body gets hives all over them, my blood flow constricts to my heart, and I get a heart attack. This disease will eventually go away but for now I just can't eat mammal. I'm currently in the hospital bed typing this right now because I accidentally ate mammalian meat, I will be out tomorrow but I almost died this time because my heart stopped.

I ate some shrimp or prawns ,, I was throwing up 🤢 but was struggling a bit to breathe my temperature was up and down I felt nauseous and tired before , I never eat it really so I didn't think it was a problem but I did remember the last time was long ago there was shrimp on a pizza I got sick too..I think I might be allergic ...thanks for the video never thought I was allergic to anything.

Anaphylaxis is the most terrifying experience I have to live with at first doctors thought I had migraines or epilepsy before they diagnosed me with food allergies after telling many doctors my symptoms I get itchy sore red skin tingling lips face and my tounge and throat swell up doctors thought I had panik atacks and put it down to anxiety so I thought ok it must be something to do with that.so anyway one afternoon I had a bowl of fruit and nut muisli as I was eating it my throat and tounge began to swell up so I called for an ambulance and at casualty the doctors said that I have had the early signs of going into anaphylactic shock so had food allergy testing and it proved that I had many food allergies fish chocolate nuts wheat and milk so now I have a epi pen and anti histamines I take every day and I have to check everything food labeling restraunts and cafes going on holidays it was great in a way that what I was experiencing wasn't all in my head when I sufferd from anyphylaxis all along xxxx BB

People who don't care about allergies, or complain about 'inconveniences' with people who have allergies are awful people. We need better education about allergies, and less stigma around having one.

My daughter who is turning 4 in a few months and she is allergic to Cashews.I tried cashews on her last two weeks ago..I have her baked cashew cookie and till half an hour she was totally fine with clear skin.bit as soon as I have her 1/2 piece of raw Cashewnut to eat,she felt different and within 15 min she vomited 🤮 out..but she stayed all clear with skin. Next day she had a tiny piece of cashew-was all good. The very next day she wanted to eat cashew so I gave her and with the same hands she rubbed her eyes and started having tiny hives around eyes(did settle down within 10 minutes) I am concerned and confused about my daughter to eat cashews.. Vomiting is anaphylactic or mild syndromes of cashew allergy??? Please reply! Thank you !!

Wow I am 66 and had mine 2 weeks ago , of a hard candy covered with dye and all inside was ginger abs cinnamon , I been all around the world ate foods I can’t pronounce , never ever in my wild dream could imagine this can happen to me , when few hours after licking that hard candy at 7 pm felt my moth is like I had pounds of sour food , then by 2 am I realized I can’t speak , my tongue was as big as an orange so to emergency and they gave me shots one I know was Benadryl I was there for 14 hours day after my doctor wrote epiphen , at this very moment I have stomach ache I had from last night , I took xyzal and didn’t know till saw this clip that stomach cramp could be categorized as anaphylactic. I have the epiphen and now I know if it not stoped then I use it ,, ,,,this is really suck

When your having a reaction does it thoat burn really bad and close cant breath for about a min. Then you start puking but hurts so bad cause thoat is close and if you drink water it just burns worse but making yourself burp helps it alittle any help

I hope she held the restaurant accountable. These ppl should be trained And understand how allergies work. They almost killed her because they were too stupid to take the extra five minutes to keep her food from being cross contaminated. My husband is a general manager at a restaurant luckily I have an allergy too and he understand the importance of taking precautions and he trains the servers to take food allergies very serious. A peanut or a bee sting can be like a loaded gun to those who are allergic.

I am an allergic to my partner .I've been using steroids medicine for 5 months and nothing is helpful but steroids , it feels like a trap that has not a way out . She doesn't use any cosmetic perfume and etc , so the reaction is defenetly not on something like that .I trying to find a doctor hwo having a deal with allergy like mine one but unfortunately i still have not result in my search till this day . I have life threatening allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, hazelnuts, cashew's, walnuts, macadamia nuts, pecan, pistachio, almonds:all lentils kidney beans and stuff. Also Allergic to soy, eggs, fresh cut grass, sesame seeds, fish, chickpeas, gram flour, dogs and cats fyi I just sneeze when dogs and cats are near me. But the rest of the allergens would definitely kill me lol.

This is scary Just experienced this today over shrimp. SO didnt want me to use it because i could breathe instead to take the benedryl . I wish i had done it when I grabbed it. SO ended up calling 911. I went from not being able to crawl upstaira to soak in a cold bath to trying to race back downstairs to vomit. Never experienced that before. Next time I won't wait that long. 911told me to use it but I just said f*c% it, I feel like I'm dying and did it. I was so happy when the fire force got there and said that they were happy I used it, in front of my SO. I think some are afraid of this and the fact that now you have to go to the hospital. Same with the emt's & doctor, I did their job they told me and gave it to myself. I didn't even feel it. Did hours later though lol. They need a class when they give these.
