A wee video about legendary climber, showman and all round nice guy Johnny Dawes and his attempt to try a hands free "walk" up Lundy island's classic climb called "The Devil's Slide". Featuring some aerial drone footage and some hands free sorcery by one of the UK's greatest ever climbers, sit back and take a walk on the wild slide! :-)

Cool Johnny, certainly beats dynos on the old Heights wall. One supposes having a slightly lower centre of gravity than back in the day assists. Rock on mate.

For sure Vegeek and Johnny still has impeccable technique to this day! On the day I filmed this the wind got stronger and stronger the higher up the slide Johnny got, just to add to the difficulty of him keeping balance... :-) Cheers Dave

I love this! Johnny was and remains such an inspiration. Thanks for this wonderful video. I remember back when I started climbing in the 80's there was a lot of interest in Lundy. Gary Gibson was prolific there I recall.

JD was well ahead of his time when he thrashed Black Rocks at Cromford, Derbyshire way back then............Indian face on Cloggy, and the Direct Start to Our Father at Stoney, I always enjoyed Dawes and his style of climbing and this great piece of film goes to show the man, the legend, still has it in bundles, pedigree that is!!! loved it, thank you.

Direct start to our father was. Playing away for me. Not one to fall off wrong on. Either a a metre or 50 metre fall. Duddnt hurt Phil Burke though if I recall correctly..

+Freddy Rassinger many thanks for taking the time to post your positive feedback and it was an amazing piece of skill by the grandmaster of balance on a pretty blustery day. The climb is graded HS 4b for a normal ascent but Johnny thought it may be E6 6b without hands! However he may have had his tongue firmly stuck in his cheek... :-) Cheers Dave

They did, tho' I have a feeling he could do it in carpet slippers. I'm just stunned anyone's still got a pair hanging about, and if they have, that they're not rotted through! Thanks for the video. Lovely. He's a (climbing) national treasure.

They're mine! I first climbed in them about 1989. Long since stopped climbing so donated them via a friend. DIdn't expect to see them again. I know they're mine because of the funky laces :-)

Hi SCYTHE2525 Johnny was wearing EB's (Super Gratton I think) which were a French brand of climbing shoe that were very popular in the 70's! Hope you enjoyed the vid! :-) Cheers Dave
