The building of the council house was a disgrace. As kids we travelled along the canal from tividale to oldbury and there was some great old shops where they built that monstrosity. Tom swallows was the best motorcycle scooter seller in all the country. will miss the old oldbury. The old pictures you showed a building and a smaller building which was derelict, that was in fact my grandads old cottage which was a lock keepers house for the cananl's. He went out in the winter breaking the ice, there was a yard where they fed and watered horses and he even had his own horse there. Albrights was a chemical plant which still produces che3micals today, it covers around 60 achres and what is the most noticible thing is the smell that comes from it. Travelling down M5 it is always a sign your in oldbury because of the smell. Very strong and nasty. ;-)

When I was a kid I used to play around the Langley canal where the motorway was being built. We used climb upon those girder supports playing hide and seek. The pillars also started to crumble caused by the water drainage leaks. To combat the problem electric elements were installed to keep the moisture at bay Around 17 years ago, hence all the cables running up the structures. The fire of the Maltings is on YT ..Heading .. Helicopter footage captures Langley Green distillery blaze. Great video by the way.

Great stuff 😊 loving the Black Country canal network, I've cycled and or walked most of it. Often I'd veer off onto something else of interest, such as on one occasion the start of the disused railway route near Oxley sidings, walked as far as Womborne, the route detiorates just after the girder bridge over the A449. Some of the same route is followable northbound from the Stourbridge canal near Leys Road.

Cheers for that bud so much to discover round here for the canal network my favourite has to be the Dudley N2 canal that's local to me done a lot of research into the old industry whats across there so far

Grew up around that area and still go down there regularly to walk along the cut I've always said that Oldbury would be a great place to go with a metal detector because it really has got some history. Anyway fab video, you've clearly got a passion for the history and the region.

I might go into metal detecting at a later date unsure of the laws and regulations around it but if can give it a go that would be cool . Some places that would be good are Oldbury like mentioned and also parts of halesowen like near halesowen abbey and the surrounding fields

@@MidlandsOutdoors I've not been to Halesowen Abbey yet but it sounds a great place to do metal detecting. I subscribe to Digger Dawn and I think she has covered permissions in some of her videos.

@@MidlandsOutdoors apparently, Titford pools used to be the place to be seen! They used to have pleasure boats down there way back in the day. I love going for a walk down there. Ive seen kingfishers, herons, so many fish, many ducks/geese nesting. Hard to belive all that goes on under the motorway!!!

@@MidlandsOutdoors I like it. Its urban. The pools go right under the motorway bridge. Ive seen heron there, a kingfisher and loads of fish . The dead end of the canal runs along side the pools. Lots of wildlife. Its prob worth at least one walk around before you decide whether to include it in one of your videos mate
